I flipped through the pages, inhaling the faint smell of old papers. “It's all here, Andrew.” I croaked. “I know…” he whispered. “What do you two want?” A haggard voice asked, walking close to us. My eyes landed on a wrinkly figure, a cane to balance her as she walked closer.

She clasped her hands behind her back, fixed her eyes somewhere on the ceiling, and let loose her usual torrent of words. "I read a wonderful book called, Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë. It was written in 1847, but the characters in the book are so real that you feel as if they're living today. When I read this book, I felt as if I were Jane Eyre, a lonely, friendless orphan girl sent away to a cold, cruel boarding school where all the other girls despise her."

It's been three days since she started delaying the inevitable event of being stuck with Dom in Canterbury. After minutes of pondering, she stood up and reached the small shelf of books she has. Her eyes locked on two books, Jane Eyre by Emily Bronte and Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. She had just finished reading Persuasion, and she was still on the assessment of her feelings towards the ending of the story. Maybe another book can take her mind off things. She decided on Great Expectations, gladly picking up the book and bouncing back to her bed, to enjoy another pleasurable surmount of reading a book.

Jane Eyre comes up. Okay. She is an absolute heroine of mine, but a bit too much of a goody-goody-two-shoes for my current requirements. If she had embarked on a riotous affair with Rochester while he was still married, then I could have a use for her. But that was the whole point of the story. She treasured her dignity as an emancipated woman more than a quick tumble in the hay with her boss. I have to rule her out. What does her noble behaviour say about me?

"And I can't make someone fall in love." He caressed my jawline with him thumb. I shivered and tried to cover it up with a smirk. "What can you do?" He smelled delicious, like exotic spices and oranges. "Why don't you tell me what you want, and I'll let you know if it's possible." His thumb touched my bottom lip.

Reading that book always brings me comfort.” And gives her hope. It makes her feel so much better to read it.
