Chapter 22: The Echo of the Duke ​The creature in the doorway didn't have a face. It was a shifting mass of bronze gears and jagged glass, held together by a flickering white light that made the shadows in the basement scream. Every time a gear turned, the sound of a thousand ticking clocks filled my skull, making my vision blur. This was the "Time-Eater"—the physical manifestation of the memories Julian had traded away.

She could hear animalistic sounds coming from outside and while she was glad that they had not been killed, she wasn’t so sure about this time. She could hear the snapping of bones and she knew that the fight got more serious than it was before. Right outside, Alpha Xander stood above Alpha Norman. “Spare me please.” He begged. Xander wanted to spare him so he could be an example to other Alphas who wanted to be over ambitious. He needed to remind them that this was his territory and nothing happened without his permission. But then he looked at the three girls whose lifeless bodies lay in the grass. He made up his mind.

Valerie: Morning sunlight spilled across the terrace, warm and soft against my skin as I stepped outside. The breeze carried the faint scent of pine and fresh earth, the quiet hum of the pack grounds far below. Everything felt calmer now, steadier, like the world had finally exhaled after months of choking tension. “Val.” I turned. Xavier stood in the doorway, dressed in a dark shirt with the sleeves rolled to his forearms. His eyes, those steady storm-blue eyes, held something different today. A warmth. A nervousness. A spark I hadn’t seen since the very beginning.

As Addison started to walk away she stopped and turned back to us. "Hey, would you guys like to know another tidbit of information when it comes to mates of three." We all slowly pulled apart and looked at her. "Yeah, what is it?" Damien said. She looked at me. "Even though Damien is technically the father, the baby has Xavier's genes too. It's a very small amount but he still has it." She then looked at Damien,"even though Xavier is the father of your baby, your baby has Theo's genes as well... Same thing, it's a very small amount, but your baby still has it.
