We were standing there in this weird standoff when I glanced toward the bar area, and relief slammed into me. Zara. She was sitting at the counter, downing a drink. The bartender poured her another one, and she drank it immediately without even pausing. I narrowed my eyes and watched her closely. Zara didn’t drink like this. Ever. I remembered Adrian’s birthdays back then when she had refused alcohol completely. I used to joke that she was too holy for drinking. But what I was seeing right now was different. Something was wrong. She ordered another drink and downed it just as fast as the first two. That’s when it hit me.
