Harley’s P.O.V.
Julian’s claim riveted me to my spot, blowing my head away. The tray froze in my hand as I stuttered.
“H-He did what?”
Carlos watched out for me when I was in danger, making sure no vampire could harm me. But he would go to such lengths to help me, it was uncalled-for. I was unable to believe that he took so much interest in my life and arranged for a high-paying job for me.
Julian gave me a wink, clearly amused by my shock. “It’s strange. Didn’t he tell you?”
Suppressing the tide of mixed emotions, I shook my head. “No, he didn’t.”
“Then let me be the first to say. You have got yourself one hell of an admirer, Harley!”
As Julian’s words lingered in the air, I moved on with my work, forcing a smile for other customers. But inside, I wasn’t there.
I was back in Carlos’s kitchen!
Back in his warm gaze.
Back in the moment when his fingers brushed mine over a stupid cup of coffee.
Back in the car when he didn’t ask if I wanted help, he just showed up. Like he always does.
