The car's engine hummed silently beneath our feet as Caspian and I drove away from the meeting hall. My mind was still reeling from the confrontation with the alphas.
Their resistance, their doubt, it all left a bitter taste in my mouth. I gazed out the window, watching the city lights blur past, when my phone suddenly buzzed in my pocket.
I fished it out, frowning at the unknown number. "Roman speaking," I answered, my voice gruff with fatigue.
