Chapter 5

Too late, Peter passed away right in Fred’s arms. Fred cried and screamed the name of his best friend and personal assistant. Peter returned in human form, his face peaceful and smiling. At least he had said what he wanted to say to Fred. With a limp, Fred picked up his friend’s body and carried him away from the bloodied battlefield as he continued to say a few words.

“I’m sorry,” Fred said.

A single High Court headed by three leaders who had the power to organize, adjudicate and decide united the packs in the State of Vermont. Among the three leaders of the High Court, there was one mysterious leader and none of the members had ever seen his face. During pack meetings, this mysterious leader was behind a curtain and one of his assistants assists with everything.

The Black Skull Pack and Blood Moon Pack were among the packs under the leadership of the High Court. Fred was an Alpha in the Black Skull Pack. And the fight in the middle of the forbidden forest happened because of the challenge addressed by Fred to the Alpha Blood Moon Pack, with one goal of killing him and taking everything that belonged to him.

Meanwhile, the next day, Bruce, along with the police and rescue team, went back into the forest and down the edge of the cliff to the bottom of the ravine. That morning, the sky had lightened, and the fog had cleared, making their visibility easier.

Sean and a few police officers waited at the edge of the cliff. It took several hours for them to reach the bottom of the ravine. Nothing looked strange around them, just like the appearance on the cliff, the appearance at the bottom of the ravine looked like a dense uninhabited forest.

Sheriff Webb led the rescue mission by walking in front, followed by the rescue team and Bruce behind him. They walked slowly and carefully through the creepy-looking dense forest until they finally saw an old and broken house in the middle of the forest.

Cautiously, they approached the house and found Lisa and Scott still sleeping on the dirty floor of the house. Bruce was both happy and sad to see Lisa’s bloodstained state all over her body. Meanwhile, Sheriff Webb seemed to recognize Scott and immediately checked his condition.

Without waiting long, Bruce immediately approached Lisa and hugged her.

“Lisa, you’re finally safe. I’m sorry I took so long looking for you.” Bruce hugged his daughter’s body tightly. Lisa, who was still asleep, immediately opened her eyes and found her father and several other people standing in front of her.

“Dad,” she whispered.

Bruce released his embrace and looked directly at Lisa’s face as he asked, “Which part hurts? Tell me.”

“My hands hurt and I can’t move them. My body too.”

Meanwhile, Sheriff Webb approached Scott and asked, “Mr. Hanson, are you okay? Tell me which part other than your arm is injured.”

Scott, who had opened his eyes, then replied, “Sheriff Webb?”

“Yes, it’s me. Please tell me, which part other than your arm is injured?” Sheriff Webb asked.

“Only my arm is injured, the rest is not,” Scott replied quietly.

Lisa and Scott’s bodies were shivering from the cold after a night in the cold air, their skin pale and cold. Rescuers rushed to them and tried to treat their wounds and warm them up before taking them up the cliff.

After the initial rescue, they brought Lisa and Scott up by the cliff. Bruce carried his daughter’s body, while the rescue team carried Scott’s body.

Without a hitch, the rescue mission was completed and ended successfully. They took Scott and Lisa to the hospital in two different ambulances. However, something strange felt in Lisa’s heart as the two separated and got into different ambulances, her heart beating faster.

Just before Lisa got into the ambulance, she turned her head and looked at Scott’s back. As if he knew he was being watched, Scott looked back and returned Lisa’s gaze.

Lisa blushed because she had stolen a glance at a man she had just met. She immediately looked the other way. However, to thank the man who had helped her, she looked back at him while waving her hand and saying, “Thank you.”

Scott looked at her with a gentle gaze and there was something Lisa couldn’t express. To Lisa, Scott’s eyes were so mysterious, as if they held something dark and secret.

Then, Scott said back to Lisa, “You’re welcome.”

Lisa felt he spoke sparingly, unlike the boys at her school who talked a lot. To Lisa, Scott didn’t talk too much and his behavior seemed to imply that he was not a random man. He calculated everything and acted carefully.

Then Lisa immediately got into the ambulance, followed by Bruce and Sean. In the car, the three of them hugged each other. Sean repeatedly apologized to his sister for not being able to catch her arm when she was about to fall into the ravine.

“It’s okay, Sean. Stop blaming yourself. Do you see? I’m fine, right?” Lisa said as she looked at Sean’s face.

“I’m glad you survived, otherwise,” Sean replied.

“Let’s not talk about that anymore. All that matters now is that I’m here with you,” Lisa said.

The love between the two siblings made the atmosphere more touching, which was felt by the nurses who were in the same ambulance as them. Lisa and Sean’s relationship is indeed getting closer, especially after the death of their mother.

Slowly, the convoy of ambulances left the temporary headquarters. Everyone involved in the rescue mission also left the forbidden forest area, which was terrible and scary.

Moments later, they arrived at the hospital. They brought Scott and Lisa into different but adjacent treatment rooms. After their bodies were cleaned and dressed in hospital clothes, Lisa lay on the bed while enjoying a meal fed by Sean.

In a room, while Scott’s wounds were being stitched up, several men in formal attire suddenly arrived and immediately entered the room where the man was being treated.

“Sir, we have a message for you from the high court,” one man wearing sunglasses with a large stature said.

Scott then asked two nurses who were treating his wound to give him a moment. The two nurses went out and left Scott with the men.

“Tell me, what message do you have for me?” Scott asked.
