“Phoenix are you okay?” I said with my heart in my mouth.

Oisin took a step forward but Phoenix raised his hand and stopped him.

“I’m fine.” He said. I helped him stand back up.

He placed on hand on his head.

“I just got a little dizzy there.” He said.

I remembered how I had let him climb the stairs here by himself. I hadn’t been paying attention to him, but he must have struggled and used a lot of energy to climb the steps.

Anger flared up within me.

“Where you pushing yourself earlier?” I asked in a low dangerous tone.

Phoenix turned to me with slight surprise on his face. He hadn’t been expecting anger from me just now and I could tell.

“It was nothing. How useless am I if I can’t even climb a flight if stairs?” Phoenix asked.

“I thought I told you not to push yourself!” He was infuriating me now, why didn’t he listen.

“Must you prove that you’re strong!?” I prodded. He had pushed himself so much. I found it admirable, but now I couldn’t bare it if it cost him so much. Why couldn’

  • MY SECOND-CHANCE MATE IS A WOLF HUNTER   CHAPTER 78: MORNING

The innkeeper's face turned ashen.I felt the rage boil out of me as I squeezed. The innkeeper tightened his grip on my hand. He must have been trying to bend them away from his neck, but he quickly found that my grip was like iron. His eyes went even wider. The innkeeper was not a slight man, although he wasn't much taller than me. So he was shocked beyond his wildest imagination when he discovered that he couldn't move my hands in the moment.I growled and showed him my teeth. The innkeeper started kicking with his legs as he struggled to breathe.I felt my anger burn hotter. The color of my eyes bled into a dark red.I wanted to rip out his throat. Then an image flashed through my mind.It was the image of a mother holding tightly to her daughter as they both cowered from my red gaze.I dropped the innkeeper like he was a hot stone. He fell to the ground with a loud thud.I took a step back and realized what I had almost done.I looked at my hands. They were covered in veins and m

I was just as shocked as Phoenix when I heard Oisin's words.Rowena was waking up!?Phoenix and I wasted no time. I immediately shot out of the bed. Phoenix on the other hand was still slower than me, but he got up regardless.I hurried to the door which Phoenix had locked earlier. The key was still in the lock. I turned it and the door swung inwards.Oisin stood in front of the door. Suddenly he looked like the boy he was. Small and anxious. He looked up at me."She started stirring a few moments ago. I was already asleep and it was Roman who woke me up." Oisin said.Phoenix finally reached the door behind me."Let's go see her."Oisin, Phoenix and I hurried to the other room. As soon as I entered the room I saw what Oisin had been talking about.Rowena was lying flat on the bed. Her body was splayed with both her arms and legs stretching to accommodate the entire bed.Roman stood beside her. He looked very confused and he didn't know what to do.Rowena was sweating profusely. But th

Another migraine hit me. But luckily it was a lot weaker than the last one. I got off easily as I only had to push against the wall with one hand for support. After I waited for five seconds, most of the pain receded. Worry flashed through my mind. Everyday it seemed like my condition wasn’t getting any better. I was too weak to do anything and I had been in a coma for awhile. I had been a constant burden to Morning and the others, because they had to carry me just to get by. What if I never got better? It never crossed my mind to be worried for myself. Ever since the day I walked away from the church, I had been ready to die for what was right. That was no concern to me. But I was scared that I would die before I could complete my mission. Even with many months of being an outlaw, I had not gotten any great achievement. I had made little progress in my mission. Things were moving forward, especially now. But what if I never recovered. It would be a cruel joke from Sol.

Morning immediately exploded into a tirade of angry words.I cringed inwardly because I immediately recognized my poor choice of words. Morning had been placing emphasis on the need for me to take a break for awhile now. I could now confirm that she wouldn’t feel good when I ended up doing the opposite of that.“I told you not to push yourself!” Morning exclaimed, confirming my thoughts.Of course I was sorry for how I made her feel.I understood what she meant when she told me not to push myself, but it was just an understanding of the words themselves.Ever since the first day I could remember, which was about thirteen years ago, things have never been easy. From then on I constantly had to push myself to keep going. All my years in the church emphasized this. Even though all my achievements there ended up being worthless to me now, I had still pushed myself to get them. To be the best. And my current mission was the most important. I knew that it depended on me to save all the live

Earlier that evening.I made sure that my entire group were ahead of me on the flight of stairs. It wasn’t very difficult because they all seemed to forget about my condition. Of course that had a lot to do with my own efforts.Even as I looked up the seemingly impossibly high flight of stairs, my head banged. The headache seemed to come and go with unpredictable intervals in between. The innkeeper was helping carry Rowena up the stairs and Morning was focused on him.I took in a deep breath. I couldn’t linger at the bottom for long unless Morning and the others would notice. And I completely refused the idea of Morning carrying me up the stairs in her arms like a baby.I took the first step, it was difficult instantly. I gritted my teeth and pushed past the pain. I kept a steady pace so as not to alert any of them as I followed behind. Every step was difficult.I needed an anchor to escape the pain. My eyes went to Morning and I focused on her hair. It was midnight black and luscious
