Chapter Two

“What are you doing?”

I heard the voice but I was too weak to see who they were talking to. Moreover, it was not my business who the person was talking to. I was dead tired, my back hurts so much. My waist was on fire. I needed to rest else I might end up faint from exhaustion and malnourishment.

“Am I not talking to you, Tasyra?”

Anger and irritation dripped heavily on every spoken word, and I had to look up to see who knew me enough to talk to me that way. I forced myself to hastily stand and bow when I saw who it was.

“Good day, Alpha.”

“I asked you a question.”

He said, purposely ignoring my greeting. His gaze was sharp and unfriendly.

I sighed sadly.

“I was resting.”

“What are you doing here?”

That was when I got what he was trying to say.

“I was sent to work on the farm.”

“Women are not allowed on the farm.”

“The Luna sent me here.”

I looked at him, hopeful that he might take in my ill condition and show mercy. He might let me off the hook and ask me to go and rest.

“Why? What did you do?”

I saw the rest of the unspoken words in his eyes. This time. That was the unspoken words. He wanted to know what I had done this time as though I was some adamantly stubborn child that needed to be grounded or punished for always going against a laid down rule, but it was not true. I was not like that and he used to believe me. The Alpha and I were once-upon-a-time very close, he used to be my source of escape from the harsh reality I was born into, not until he also became part of that harsh reality. And now, it was just me.

“I unintentionally poured tea on a guest.”

I bowed my head, the hope of him helping me out of here dwindled considerably. There was a fat chance he’d let me remain here.

“Unintentionally?”

His tone was mocking.

“It was a mistake, I swear it.”

I blinked back tears. No one ever believed me, and it hurt. It stung my integrity badly. The only person who used to believe me was gone.

“It is always a mistake for you, Tasyra.”

“No, this was truly a mistake. I would not intentionally pour drink on a guest.”

I tried to plead my case to him. Try to see if I could get on his merciful side. Honestly, I didn’t think I could finish this portion all by myself. I was seriously ill. Every part of me hurt. My bones were too weak to carry on and my meals were usually too small to refuel my weary body.

“So how did it happen?”

Maybe there was hope. Though his expression was stern and unsmiling when I skimmed my gaze over his face, I did not want that to discourage. Maybe if he knew the full story, he'd realize it was not my fault.

“I had been feeling down for some days. The Luna called me to make tea for her guest. I had just entered with the tea when my fever acted up and shivered causing my hands to tremble and headache blurred my vision. I swayed and in trying to steady myself, the tray slipped from my hold and the cup emptied its content on the guest.”

“You were clumsy.”

“But I was attacked by fever, Alpha. Please, it was not intentional.”

“Who is this guest?”

“The Beta’s daughter.”

“Zaryn?”

“Yes Alpha.”

“Hm.”

“I swear on my life Alpha. It wasn’t intentional. You know me.”

I tried to appeal to his conscience and also our relationship in the past to make him consider my own side of the story.

“Know you?”

I swallowed. Maybe I had gone too far.

“Y-yes.”

“As what?”

I became tongue-tied. What was I thinking? Trying to use memories of our past to appeal the conscience of a full grown man who now hated me and did not want to see me.

“I’m very sorry, Alpha.”

My head was bowed but in respect and shame. Respect for him, shame for what I’d done.

“Raise your face and look at me.”

The order was direct and harshly compelling.

“We do not know each other, you hear me?”

I just stared desolately at him, not saying a word.

“Do you need me to repeat myself?”

“I’m sorry. No. I hear you.”

I avoided his gaze while trying to swallow the hurt and pain that lodged themselves in my throat like a stubborn boulder refusing to budge even after several push.

“And never make such comment in public.”

“Yes Alpha.”

Other laborers on the farm stole glances at us. They were curious to know what was happening but were scared of being caught poke nosing in the Alpha’s business.

“Good. Now back to your offense, what you did was a very serious crime.”

He said. I became dispirited. Why? What happened to the Alpha? He used to be protective of me even as a child. He stood by me and it was because of him everything had been bearable.

“I’m sorry Alpha. But please believe me it was not on purpose.”

“You are going to continue serving your punishment and I do not want to find you seating idly or lazing about.”

Fresh tears poured. My eyes swept the remaining untouched portion, there was still much to do. My gaze went back to him.

“Please Alpha. I can not do this alone. Please.”

His sterling grey orbs turned granite and his lips curled in a snarl. I jolted from the unpleasant sound that came from his throat.

“Are you trying to disobey my orders?”

I shook my head so quickly, I thought they’d spin right off of my shoulder.

“No.”

It was a struggle trying to talk and also stand upright.

“Now get back to work.”

I wiped tears away and picked the farm tool I was using to harvest the crop produce. I took weak steps to my portion of the farm when the world swayed, I was almost hitting the ground when I felt a firm grip on me.

“Mate!”

Tasyra“I hate all of you!” I screamed repeatedly as the guards dragged me roughly to my cell. My skin brushed violently against the ground because I was resisting. “Leave me alone!” I screamed at the guards while I kicked.I was finally thrown into my cell. The little fire that was in it was taken away and I was locked up in the dark. I kept screaming and banging on the door for hours, but nobody came.I knew the stunt I pulled was a bold one, I knew I had insulted the seat of the Luna, but I didn't care. For years I have been made to suffer. I was twenty years old, but I looked like I was sixty. My skin was wrinkly and old. I had burns from the sun and wound marks from excessive work and punishment. Why was I treated like that? Ever since I knew myself, I had been a slave to the Luna and her family. I was born into captivity, I didn't know my mother nor my father and whenever I asked anyone, they would not reply because the Luna had ordered that no one spoke my mother's name.I hate

Alpha Haden The door of my room swung open with force, “Has everyone forgotten how to knock?” I questioned without looking at who did it“You asked Zaryn to leave your room? Is that how you will treat her when she becomes Luna?” Mother’s voice rang in my room“Not again!” I sighed in a low voice. I was not ready for an argument but I had to give a reply that would make sense to her so she could leave me to my thinking. “I was not feeling too well, I needed my space”“What space is greater than the company of your mate?” Mother saidI shrugged uncomfortably at the mention of the title mate. When I heard people call her my Luna, I could bear it because a Luna’s duty was mainly for the pack. But the title ‘mate’ irked me greatly, because if she was my mate, her duty is of great extent to me and I am equally expected to love her. To make matters worse, we would have to be lovers who would be intimate on occasion, “Eww,” I murmured in disgust Mother’s lips pursed, “You have a very poor a

Alpha HadenI saw four guards dragging Tasyra out of the guard quarters. She was stark naked and I wondered why she was not given a cloth to cover herself. Why was she treated so harshly and embarrassingly? I called out to the guards, “Stop! Find something and cover her up with it.” As they went to bring clothes for Tasyra, I looked away. I could not stare Tasyra straight in the eyes, I was somewhat disgusted at her.“Alpha Haden, I swear to the Moon goddess! I didn't do it! This is an implication! I did not sleep with him please, believe me!” Tasyra screamed trying to get my attention I didn't look at her, if I did I was sure I would cry and look like a weak Alpha. Something in me wanted to speak with her, but I could not just stand her at that moment. I thought of the possibility that she was framed, “Take her away” I instructed the guards. They dragged her away while she pleaded and shouted my name“Haden!” my mother's voice called out to me, but I ignored it. “Haden!” she called

LianeI looked at the sight of Tasyra lying pitifully on the ground after the impact of me pushing her.“You did this!” She screamed at meI was wowed, she got more courageous by the day. The more she displayed her contempt for me, the more I felt like I was losing my grip on her. I had to do something, she could not scream at me and go free, it would give her the impression that I was getting soft. “How dare you!” I bent down and gave her a huge slap, making sure that my overly-sized bangles also hit her face, leaving a mark of both my palm and my jewellery on her face. She screamed at the impact of the slap. I thought it would silence her, but she got up, grabbed my gown and continued screaming, “You framed me! What did I ever do to you? You make my life miserable every day! Why!? Why!?” I was flustered by her actions, she was tugging at my gown with immense strength and screaming on top of her voice. I had never seen her act like that and I could tell she was disoriented. Why has

Alpha HadenIt was very early in the morning. I got out of bed by 4 am and I decided to go to my usual place in the field for my early morning meditation. Before Gaya decided to stop talking to me, it was the both of us who did the meditation together.“Haden,” I heard a familiar voice call me, it was my mother.I turned to look at her and I smiled, “Mother”“Come, I need to show you something urgent,” there was an unusual calmness in her voice. If it was urgent, why were her emotions not speaking urgency?Standing up to my feet and following her, I replied, “What is the matter?”We walked in silence to the guard quarters and I wondered why. I was curious, I fought the urge to ask her where she was taking me, but I knew she would want me to be patient, that is how she was“Hello darling!” another familiar voice called out with a smile on her face as we were almost in the guards’ quarters, it was Zaryn. When I saw her, I raised an eyebrow. Did my mother just disturb my meditation to ta

Tasyra“I can not do what the Luna said I should do, No!” I cried while curled up in my cell, “I can not bring my child into a world of mockery from this rumour I am about to spread, No!” I wearily got up and started using my hand to feel the wall of the dark cell. I tried to get to the hidden place where I and Fagel had stored our tools for escape. I was going to escape. Although I had discarded a few tools due to fear of being cut, I still had the map and notes on the guard routines. I was going to escape by hook or crook.I heard a blonde-haired girl gasp as I worked on my portion in the field. “He is dead!?” she asked her friend during their discussion, “How did you know?”“ I saw people gathered in front of his house and his wife was crying, so I decided to check” her friend who had brunette hair responded, “Garn was such a good man, he suffered a lot,” she sighed“Garn is dead?” I asked them in a high-pitched voice so they could hear me. They both looked at me with visible scorn
