Verania

If I didn’t swallow the water, then I would have to choke on it, and that wasn’t what I wanted at all.

Choking would only make things worse, so instead, I gulped down the water as tears gathered in my eyes. Soon, my stomach felt too full to the point where I thought it would burst.

The Cruel Alpha only stepped back when the glass was empty. His hateful eyes searched my face. I coughed and wiped the back of my hand across my mouth, meeting his gaze steadily.

“Agatha,” he said to the plump woman who stood beside him and watched me with a horrified expression. “The food.”

The woman hurried to gather a plate of food, presumably for me. He didn’t take his eyes off my face, and I could tell that he was prepared for a fight. This only increased my need to stand my ground.

At this point, I was far beyond caring.

The woman, Agatha, handed him a plate of food. I didn’t pay attention to what was on it. Alpha Rasmon handed it to me, his eyes hard. “Eat.”

I didn’t make a single move.

  • The Cruel Alpha’s Breeder    The Right Questions

RASMON Things with the breeder were getting out of hand. And that was all my fault. It would've been much easier for me if I didn't have these haunting dreams about her that had the power to ruin my whole day. Why was this happening? Why couldn't I get her out of my head? This felt like a punishment of some kind, but I didn’t know what exactly I was being punished for when her family wronged mine. Everything that was happening to her was well-deserved. I wasn’t being unfair—not in the slightest. I was so frustrated that I couldn’t focus on the party that was happening right in front of me. Everyone was walking up and down my house, and occasionally, some people would wish me a happy birthday. I wasn’t at all interested in this. I didn’t like celebrating my birthday, and this was all a major inconvenience for me. I spotted Arius in the crowd, and he came toward me after excusing himself. I gulped down my drink, and steeled myself for what would come next. “Birthday boy,” he b

  • The Cruel Alpha’s Breeder    Zap of Electricity

Verania Things were relatively calm in the next few days. There were no strange occurrences, and for the most part, I was at peace. I spent a lot of time with Lucan, and discovered a lot about him and the Olafur family. Especially his mother. She died on the day Lucan was born, and that's all he knows about her. The Alpha refuses to talk about her, and whenever Lucan tried to ask questions, his father would shut it down, claiming it wasn't important for him to know anything about her. I couldn't die—I found that very strange. Why not tell the boy about her? Didn't he deserve to know who his mother was? Lucan didn't even know her name, that was how extreme things were. If the Cruel Alpha didn't treat his son with love and respect, I would assume that he blamed the boy for her death. This wasn't normal at all.But that wasn't the case, so perhaps he had his reasons. Verona practically raised him as his father was always busy fighting. The opinion he had of his father was a good o

  • The Cruel Alpha’s Breeder    Meaningful Thanks

Verania My face hurt from the punches, and though my nose wasn't broken, it was definitely starting to get swollen along with my eye. I couldn't see a thing from my left eye. Lucan was in the backseat with me as his father drove us back, and his head was resting on my lap. Though he was a strong little boy, today I saw just how vulnerable he could be. I acted on impulse. I didn’t even have time to think about what I was doing when I reached for him. The truth? I didn’t even feel pain when that man started hitting me. All I could think about was how I didn’t want to let go—I couldn’t. And now, we were here. The pain of the attack was starting to hit me. We arrived at Alpha Rasmon’s house, and he immediately asked one of the guards to call for a healer. Lucan refused to leave my side as I headed toward my room. Alpha Rasmon then said behind me, “Come to the living room. It’ll be easier for the doctor to see you there.”I listened to him and turned back around. His eyes were on me

  • The Cruel Alpha’s Breeder    A Debt

Rasmon Aunt Verona sat on the chair across from mine and lit another cigarette. "I don't see the need for a long face, nephew. You did the right thing—Lucan's happy, I'm happy. Verania is happy."I knew she said the latter just to provoke me. "Letting her leave with Lucan was a bad idea. What if she tries to escape and succeeds?""Derrick is a competent Gamma, Rasmon. Do you think he’ll let her escape? She wouldn't know where to go even if she tried, and she knows the consequences of trying to do such a thing.”That wasn't what worried me, but I didn't mention it because I knew she wouldn't understand. "I didn't ask you to join me here to discuss the breeder."Aunt Verona gave me a look. "You're the one who brought her up."I ignored her. "Arius' party organizer will be here at any moment, and I suggested that he work with you to get this damned party together. I didn't want to burden you with this, Aunt.""But the Alpha King's command should be obeyed, am I right?" she asked just t

Verona The sound of heavy footsteps heading in my direction made my heart skip a beat. The worst part was that I already knew who it was. I stared at the wall straight ahead, wondering what he was doing here. Then, it occurred to me that perhaps he’d seen me outside, talking to Derrick. Maybe he was coming to give me a warning and remind me of what would happen if he disobeyed me. I wished my heart wasn’t beating so loudly in my chest. I wished I didn’t have to be so afraid. Suddenly, the door opened, and I held my breath as I waited for him to speak. At first, it occurred to me to act like I was asleep so I wouldn’t have to deal with him. But something stronger than me forced me to raise my head and look up, and we made eye contact in the dark. The Cruel Alpha ventured further into the room. I steeled myself for what was coming next, but I wasn’t prepared, not in the slightest. He lowered his eyes for a second, then looked back up at me. “The theft,” he began. My heart dropp

  • The Cruel Alpha’s Breeder    Realizations

Rasmon Earlier…“Ah, Rasmon,” Arius said once I was close enough to his group. Every eye turned to me. “Lady Rheena here tells me that there was a situation with her and your breeder. Is that true? Why don’t you give us all the details?”I glanced at her, unable to hide how irritated I was by this whole situation. She smiled at me sweetly, and that was the confirmation I needed that I’d never marry someone like her. She wasn’t a match for me, not in the slightest. “It’s a matter I’ve taken care of,” I gritted out. “This breeder of yours sure seems to be a problematic person,” Arius laughed. “I wonder, why are you still with her? You’re someone who doesn’t tolerate disrespect at all. You’ve been that way all your life.”“The girl is uncivilized,” I said by way of an explanation. Arius nodded, and though he stopped asking me questions about it, I could tell that something about this piqued his interest. “And why isn’t she here?”“This isn’t a place for a breeder, Alpha King.”“But
