Chapter 83: Nox's POV

last update Last Updated: 2025-06-25 22:26:26

She's right to be angry. She’s right to hurt. Heck, she's right to never want to have anything to do with me...ever.

But I am desperate, desperate, for her to see that I’m just as much a victim in my mother and Zara’s twisted game as she was.

I fear that if I can’t get her to understand, if I can’t strip away every last vestige of their lies, I’ll lose her forever.

The thought sends a cold dread through me, chilling me to the bone.

"We've damn right lost everything. We're not about to throw her into the equation of everything we've lost too. Tell her about the poison. Tell her you haven't touched Zara in months," Cyan presses.

I take a shaky breath, forcing myself to speak, to push past the suffocating shame that has been my constant companion for months.

“There’s more,” I say, my voice barely a whisper after a prolonged moment of suffocating silence.

It’s the hardest truth to tell, the one I haven’t even confessed to Silas, a secret festering in the dark corners of my soul.

He looks so... I dunno the word, but I know he’s happy to be here. My throat still feels tight, a leftover from the quiet tears I shed the night before, but the cabin air feels lighter now, almost charged with a new, tentative energy.I'm standing by the kitchen counter, using the flimsy excuse of making coffee to watch as Nox settles into the spare room. The door to it is wide open, giving me quite the view of him moving around. He didn't bring much, just that small duffel bag. I'm guessing these are the only belongings he's been surviving with for the past few months, his actual fancy shit still gathering dust in his room in the pack house. The thought makes a fresh wave of quiet anger simmer beneath my skin.Still, his presence seems to fill everywhere up, and not in a tight, claustrophobic way. It’s more like a comfortable presence that wraps around you like a warm blanket in the peak of winter. And the entire cabin, which usually smells of me, which is strawberries, now carri

"Maybe you should slow down a bit? How about that?" Cyan barks at me as I skip down the steep trail, my feet practically dancing over the loose gravel. He’s right, of course. I’m moving like a lunatic, a giddy, oversized puppy.I’m the happiest man in the world after Tamsin offered… no, ordered I stay with her at the cabin. At first, as we did the dishes together, the steam rising between us, I fought back a heck load of tears. I tried my best to contain my emotions, not wanting to look as vulnerable as I felt, so she wouldn't pity me more than she already does. But the water felt warm against my hands, and her presence was so close, so real. It was a struggle. However, as soon as I stepped out of that cabin, the crisp mountain air hitting my face, I realized one thing. I’m going to be living with her. I'll wake up to the scent of strawberries and sleep to the scent of strawberries. We'll be in the same space, under the same roof. It'll no longer be me watching her from outside w

Nox stands by the corner like he doesn't know what to do with himself. He probably doesn't, actually. His tall frame seems awkwardly out of place in my cozy cabin, like a giant trying to fit into a dollhouse. He's still holding on to that poor box of tea, his fingers digging into the cardboard, almost squeezing the life out of it. My throat is tight as I try to keep my own tears at bay, but I'm failing hopelessly. Why doesn't my body ever listen to my head? Why does it listen to my heart instead? In the few moments I spent in his arms, I've never felt happier in all my life. There was this profound contentment that had me feeling like even if the world was ending, Nox is the only person I would spend my last moments with. That momentary peace and content had Kira reaching out to Nox's wolf, a silent symphony of relief and belonging. But my stupid mind had to think of Zara and ruin the moment, yanking me back to the cruel reality."You can keep that in the shelf," I manage to say,

I didn't think it would be easy, goddess no. Before Tamsin came back, I had tried so desperately to myself in her shoes.Rejected and treated I'll by the one that fate had destined for you. Each and every time I did that, it felt like I was dying. And then I'd remember that I was the one that rejected and treated her bad for literally doing nothing. And when I remember that, I die for a few hours. Not in the literal sense, of course. When she left me on the trail that night, she was right that Lior was right. I was a bitch...I probably am still a bitch, just a humbled version since I've lost everything. That made me think for a while. What was the point of all my attitude? I was the fool and my mother, Zara and Lior knew that. I would bitch around, but they knew that I didn't have any real power even though I was Alpha.I did everything I was asked by my mother so in actual sense, she had the–"Fuck!" I yelp, stumbling back, my heart launching itself into my throat. A blur of silver

“Does it make you feel any better now you know that Nox never meant for things to turn out this way?” Kira’s question echoes in my head, soft but persistent, as I drive my car down the familiar winding road to town. The engine purrs, a low, comforting rumble beneath my hands.Does it?Yes. Yes, it does. It’s a bitter, painful comfort, but it’s there. It means that if he was in his right senses, free from his mother’s insidious poison and Zara’s venomous manipulations, I would have been his ultimate choice. The fated mate he was meant to claim, the Luna he was meant to lead alongside. That flicker of what could have been, untainted by deceit, eases a tiny fraction of the suffocating weight in my chest. But what does it matter now? He wasn’t in his right senses. I wasn't his ultimate choice at the end of the day, and now it’s just damage control we’re up to. Picking up the shattered pieces and trying to glue them back together into something resembling a future, even if it’s a Fr

The cabin air, once so heavy with the weight of Nox’s revelations, now feels oddly light, almost hollow. After what felt like an eternity of chilling truths and a fucked up revelation of the actual reality we have on our hands, I decide I’ve had enough. My mind is a spiraling mess, and all I crave is the solitary quiet of my own cabin. I push myself away from the wall I've been leaning on, the movement slow and deliberate, a clear signal that the conversation, for now, is over. Silas just nods, his expression grim but understanding. Nox, however, watches me with that same puppy-eyed intensity, a silent plea in his gaze.I step out into the cold night air, letting the damp chill burn my lungs. It’s a welcome sensation, a sharp sting that, paradoxically, calms the frantic thrumming in my mind. The rain has lessened to a soft drizzle, settling like a fine mist on my skin. I hug myself, walking quickly, the familiar path to the mountain trail that leads to my cabin a dark ribbon wind
