Ashley ran deep into the forest, tears streaming down her face. Her classmates had gone too far this time. The full moon illuminated her path as she stumbled through the woods, eventually stopping at a tree, breathless. She noticed the absence of party lights and realized she was deep in the forest. Her new dress was stained with blood, and more tears fell as she looked down at the mess. Looking up, she screamed in agony before collapsing, hugging her knees, shivering with fear. "Somebody help me," she whispered. Meanwhile, a creature with large paws raced through the forest, its grey fur ruffling in the wind. It stopped, sensing blood. Without hesitation, it followed the scent at top speed. Ashley started hearing noises and raised her head. "Hello? Is anyone there?" she called out, nervous. She noticed a blue glowing object behind the bushes, resembling eyes, and heard a howl. Terrified, she gasped… She just came in contact with a wolf!

Mrs. Fair’s fingers hovered above her daughter’s battered arm, eyes glistening with tears. “Ashley,” she whispered, voice breaking, “who did this to you?”Ashley turned her face away, the motion slow, as if even that small effort hurt.
“I… I don’t know,” she murmured. “I shouldn’t have taken that drink. After that… everything’s a blur. I woke up behind the library… covered in blood.” Her voice cracked, and she clenched her fists weakly.Mr. Fair’s fists tightened at his sides. “Just give us their names. We’ll make them pay.”
Ashley squeezed her eyes shut, shaking her head. “No… it’s my fault.”
Mrs. Fair’s breath hitched. “Who gave you the drink?”
Ashley hesitated. “My best friend.”
Mrs. Fair’s face hardened. “Then it must’ve been her—”
“No!” Ashley choked out. “Not Maggie. She didn’t know… she’d never—” Her voice dissolved into a broken sob.
Suddenly, a faint voice echoed down the hallway.
“Ashley! Ashley!”Ashley’s breath hitched sharply. “It’s Maggie,” she whispered, tears sliding down her face. “Please… let her in.”
Mrs. Fair shot up. “No. I won’t let her manipulate you.” She stormed to the door, ignoring Ashley’s pleading eyes.
Ashley reached weakly toward her father. “Dad… please…”
But Mr. Fair just gave a heavy sigh, his jaw clenched. “I’m with your mother on this, Ash.”
A fresh wave of pain coursed through Ashley, not just physical—but deep, jagged, soul-piercing pain. Her body hurt, yes—but her heart felt shattered beyond repair.
Her virginity—stolen.
By someone she couldn’t name. Couldn’t remember. And the icy fear that they had photos, videos, something—something they could hold over her—clawed at her chest until she could barely breathe. Her fists trembled. Why hadn’t I fought back?
She’d always been quiet, gentle, the girl who avoided conflict. She’d never imagined she’d need to know how to fight for her life. The door opened again—and suddenly Maggie was there, pushing past Mrs. Fair, eyes red and puffy, gasping for breath.
“Ashley!”Ashley’s voice cracked like thin glass. “Maggie…”
Maggie rushed forward, collapsing to her knees beside the bed, grabbing Ashley’s hand.
“I’m so sorry,” she sobbed. “I thought… I thought it would be fun, the drinks, the party—I didn’t know, Ashley, I swear, I didn’t know—”Ashley let out a ragged breath and squeezed Maggie’s hand weakly. “You didn’t do this. You didn’t know.”
Mr. and Mrs. Fair stood silently, watching the two girls cling to each other.
Finally, Mrs. Fair spoke, her voice soft but steely. “Don’t worry, baby. Once we find out who did this, we’re pulling you out of that school.”
Ashley’s eyes shot wide. “No!” Her voice cracked, hoarse but determined. “No, Mom, I’m not leaving Stanford.”
Mrs. Fair’s brow furrowed in disbelief. “Ashley… after what they did?”
Ashley met her mother’s gaze, her jaw trembling but set. “You always taught me—never run from fear. If I leave now, they win. I’m staying.”
Mr. Fair exhaled slowly, rubbing his face. “But what if next time… it’s worse?”
Ashley’s chin quivered. “It won’t be.”
Mrs. Fair’s eyes filled with tears. “Ashley…”
“Please, Mom,” Ashley whispered. “Please. Don’t take this from me. I need to stay. I need to prove to myself I can survive this.”
For a long moment, the room was silent except for the beeping monitors.
Finally, Mrs. Fair sank into the chair by Ashley’s bed, reaching out and taking her hand, her lips trembling.
“Okay,” she whispered. “You can stay.”Ashley let out a shuddering breath.
“But listen to me,” Mrs. Fair added, voice firm. “If I see even the smallest sign something’s wrong—I’m pulling you out, no questions asked.”
Ashley gave a faint, teary smile. “I promise, Mom.”
Mrs. Fair leaned forward, pressing a trembling kiss to Ashley’s forehead. “You’re stronger than you think, baby.”
Ashley closed her eyes, letting the tears fall, feeling her mother’s arms wrap tightly around her—and for the first time since waking up, she let herself believe… maybe she could survive this. Maybe.
Ashley lay curled on her side in the hospital bed, the soft beeping of the heart monitor filling the room. The moonlight pooled faintly through the window, casting pale shadows on the wall. Across the room, Mrs. Fair sat slumped in the visitor’s chair, her head tilted back, eyes closed in restless sleep.
Ashley’s brow twitched.
A tiny frown pulled at the corners of her lips. Her fingers clenched the bedsheet. Her breathing quickened.
*
The music thudded in her ears.
Ashley stood in the middle of the party, the lights flashing in dizzying patterns—purple, red, green—faces blurring into smears of color as they passed her. Laughter echoed somewhere behind her, but it sounded warped, as if underwater.
She turned, looking for Maggie.
But every time she thought she saw her friend, the figure melted away, replaced by strangers, faceless bodies pressing in close.
A cold hand brushed hers. She looked down. A glass sat in her palm, wet and slippery. She didn’t remember taking it, but it was there, the rim cold against her fingers.
She lifted it to her lips. Suddenly, the floor tilted. Her vision cracked like a shattered mirror—shards of light, blinding and jagged, spinning too fast. Her knees buckled.
She was falling. Ashley’s back scraped against rough concrete, the sharp bite of gravel cutting into her skin.
She tried to move, but something heavy pinned her down. Hot breath on her neck.
She opened her mouth to scream— but no sound came out. Her voice was gone. A shadow loomed above her. No face. Just teeth—gleaming, twisted in a grin. Her body jerked as pain tore through her, leaving her gasping, choking on her own breath.
“Please…” she mouthed. “Please, no…” The shadows only laughed.
Then she began crawling. She was on her hands and knees, scraping across the pavement. Blood smeared the ground beneath her. Her hands reached forward, shaking, grabbing at empty air.
Headlights swept over her, blinding. A car passed by, indifferent, its tires hissing on the road. No one stopped. She was alone.
Ashley jolted awake with a strangled gasp.
Her chest heaved as she fought to steady her breath, the thin hospital blanket tangled around her. Sweat clung to her skin, her hair damp against her forehead.
For a moment, she didn’t know where she was. The beeping. The pale walls. The IV needle in her arm. Her mother’s voice camr through, “Ashley!”
Mrs. Fair was at her side in an instant, grabbing her daughter’s trembling hands. “Baby, it’s okay,” she whispered frantically, brushing Ashley’s damp hair back. “You’re safe. You’re here. You’re safe.”
Ashley shook her head, choking on a sob. “I saw him,” she whispered, her voice raw and cracking. “I saw his face… but it was all wrong. Everything was wrong…”
Mrs. Fair gathered her into her arms, rocking her gently, pressing kisses into her hair.
“I’ve got you, baby,” she murmured over and over, tears brimming in her own eyes. “I’ve got you.”
“You are one of them,” Ashley muttered as she stared at her.“I will warn you for the last time. Get the hell out of here. You have no place here.”“Why? Do you know me? Have we met somewhere?” Ashley summoned courage.“I hate people that ask too much questions.” She stormed towards Ashley, and Maggie’s eyes widened.“Ashley.” She called in fear.Ashley’s feet wobbled as she watched approach her. She didn’t know why she couldn’t run. Maybe because she didn’t see herself going back to Thomas after packing all her stuff, or she was bent on seeing Derek no matter what. When Elena saw she couldn’t scare Ashley away, then she grabbed her neck and pinned her against a tree.“Do you think I wasn’t going to hurt you?”“Let her go!” Maggie yelled from a distance.Ashley struggled with her strong hands around her neck as she responded,“I am not going back. No matter what you do. I have to see him today, and the only way you can stop me is by killing me.”Maggie’s eyes widened as she heard the
Ashley wallowed in thoughts throughout the night, after Derek left. She didn’t know what to do, and neither did she know what she wanted. If she was going to follow Derek, she would never see her father again. Her father would never forgive her. And if she stayed back, her father would find all means to kill Derek.“Maggie!” She called, sitting next to her window. She needed her now, more than ever. She heard Maggie’s mumblings from where she sat, and she called her again.“Maggie C’mon! It’s 8 am. What if we had classes today?” Ashley stared at her window as she spoke. After a while, she saw the curtains shake, and Maggie peeped out of the window with her eyes still closed.“Ashley, what is it this time?” She mumbled, trying to open her sleepy eyes.“Derek came to visit me last night.”Maggie’s eyes opened wide immediately after she heard Ashley’s statement. She could feel her sleepiness wash down her body.“What? Why did he visit you?”“The video, Maggie. He saw the video.”“And Th
Derek stared at Ashley’s house from the other side of the streets. He could see the dim lights in her room through her open curtains. He paused to check everywhere around the house before moving closer. After seeing it was all clear, he hurried to her window and jumped into her room. He found her lying on the bed with her eyes closed. He smiled faintly and moved closer to where she laid. He sat next to her on the bed. He took his time to stare at her sleeping face. He found it to be very cute.“Ashley.” He whispered her name. He waited for her to respond in any way, but she didn’t. “Ashley.” He called again. This time, a little louder than before.Ashley tightened her eyes as she heard somebody call her name in her sleep. She moved her body and turned to the other side. Her eyes were slightly open as she did this. She turned to the other side when all of a sudden, she sprang up.“Derek? What are you doing here?”She sounded terrified.“I came to see you. Lower your voice, okay?” He p
Ashley wore a jacket to prevent herself from freezing. She packed her hair in a ponytail and walked out of her room. She got to the living room and saw Thomas seated at the bar.“Father, when did you get back?” She approached him. He bowed his head and a cup of alcohol was in front of him.“Where are you going, Ashley?”Ashley gulped after hearing the tone in which he spoke. It was a threatening one.“I’m going to Maggie’s.”Thomas hit the table, making an earsplitting noise, and Ashley jumped in fright.“Don’t you dare lie to me!” He smacked.Ashley raised her brows in shock and moved backward. She wasn’t sure what her father had heard, but she knew he was very pissed.“Dad, what’s wrong?” She gazed at him in fright.“What’s wrong? You are asking me that question, Ashley? Tell me, when did you start lying to me, hun?”Ashley kept her distance from Thomas. She feared he was going to raise his hands on her this time.“I am not lying to you, Dad. I’m going to Maggie’s.” She tried her lu
Ashley couldn’t stop running. Her heart was beating very fast, and tears filled her eyes. She wanted to see Derek badly. She wanted to tell him she loved him, no matter what or who he was.“Ashley!” Maggie called again, and this time she reduced the pace at which she ran. She was at the school gate already.“Oh my God, Ashley! I almost lost my life trying to catch up with you.” Maggie muttered as she got to where Ashley stood. She held onto her legs and panted, trying to catch her breath.“I need to see Derek. I need to let him know I still love him, no matter what or who he is.”Maggie raised her head and looked at Ashley in surprise. She wasn’t expecting such pleasing words from her mouth.“You did a great job back there, Ashley. I had always wished people saw things the way you do.” Jolie interfered. She had seen them discussing, and she approached them.“I had to, Jolie. I’m sick and tired of them saying things about Derek and Fighter. They are humans too. It’s just a slight diffe
THE NEXT DAY“Ashley shot Noah? How is that even possible?” Fighter asked, sitting on the bed and staring at Derek.“I have no idea. Though she has always believed werewolves are real, I never thought she would have the courage to face one with a gun.”“Maybe, Thomas is teaching her to hunt now.” Fighter responded.“If that is the case then she is a threat to us. She is going to track our home down and expose us to the others.”“Okay, so what are you insinuating? It is Ashley, Derek… Remember that.”“I’m fully aware of that, Fighter. But I’m not sure I know what to do. She has started the work of her father. She is going to hunt us down. Remember one of us killed her mother.”“But she knows you didn’t do it right? Collins did it, not you.”Derek exhaled loudly and stared into space. He was beginning to fear he was going to choose between his pack and his mate. He wasn’t sure he was ready for that.“I need to think right. I’ll have to keep an eye on her and know what she is planning. I
