Chapter 4

작가: Liora
On the day of my coming-of-age ceremony, Quin appeared before me with a face like stone—cold and unreadable.

Mason and Kayden trailed close behind, both looking irritated, like they'd been dragged here against their will.

I frowned and glanced at the butler. I had explicitly told him not to invite them today. However, he only shook his head in confusion, clearly just as blindsided as I was.

The ceremony was minutes from starting, and frankly, I didn't have the time or energy to deal with the three of them.

Still, the guests had already gathered around them with eager smiles and sycophantic praise.

"Mr. Quin, you're truly exceptional. I heard you subdued a rogue pack last month with the warriors—no wonder Princess Evelyn insists on choosing you!"

"Mr. Kayden, I know you have that temper of yours, but you've got a good heart. Princess Evelyn would be lucky to have you."

"Mr. Mason, you're not only handsome, but so dependable. If Princess Evelyn chooses you, the whole of Northaria will thrive under your guidance."

Each of them stood there like like they were the rightful rulers of Northaria.

Not one guest noticed the tension between us. They just kept feeding into the fantasy.

I clenched my jaw as I was disgusted by the whole performance. I was just about to tell the butler to escort them out.

However, all three of them froze after checking their phones. Their expressions darkened.

A sinking feeling twisted in my gut. Before I could speak, Kayden stepped forward and shoved me hard.

The force of it sent me stumbling back into the champagne tower. Glass exploded everywhere, and icy liquid soaked the floor as pain erupted across my back.

I hit the ground as I felt dizzy from the impact. Around us, shocked guests recoiled.

Quin went pale. In a blink, he stepped in front of me, shielding me from the others—but his voice was tight with fury.

"You've really outdone yourself this time. The three of us came here, ready for you to make your choice, and this is how you respond? By pulling up a trick?"

I stared at him, stunned. What was he even talking about?

"You arranged for Silvia to be attacked while we were here, huh? You're trying to pressure us into surrendering? How clever!" Mason snapped. His eyes were cold and filled with disdain.

The accusation pierced through me like a blade, and it pulled me out of the daze.

Of course, it was Silvia. This had her written all over it.

Nearly everyone in the hall was from allied packs or Dad's close friends. But they just stood there in silence, watching me be humiliated. Not a single person spoke up for me.

A chill crept into my heart.

Were they convinced that I wasn't capable of leading Northaria? Was that why they dared to side so openly with those three?

While the pain was throbbing in my shoulder, I glared at Kayden and demanded. "Apologize. Now."

Kayden glanced at the broken glasses on the floor, then let out a cold laugh. "Rogues nearly killed Silvia, and you want me to apologize because you got a little bump?"

Just then, Silvia burst into the room in tears.

She looked completely disheveled—face streaked with blood, her dress torn—obviously fresh from some staged "attack".

"Quin…" she whimpered pitifully.

Quin rushed to her side, shielding her, then turned to me with eyes filled with disgust.

"I almost believed you. All those promises—you were faking it the whole time. Let me lay this straight right now, I will never mark you!"

Even Mason, usually the most reserved of the three, stepped in front of Silvia with a sneer.

"You're nothing but a pathetic little Omega. You can't hold Northaria together, so you tried to use us as tools. We were ready to surrender and do our part, but you? You're just manipulative and conniving."

Then he turned and walked away, not even sparing me, the princess of Northaria, a final glance.

Quin followed, but not before pausing beside me.

"I'll be your mate, sure. But don't forget—you're just a powerless puppet. If you want Northaria to survive, you'll do exactly what I say," he said icily.

I stood frozen, watching their backs as they walked out. They'd forgotten one crucial truth—if it weren't for me, the King of Northaria would've never taken them in.

Just as they reached the threshold, one of the guests hesitated, clearly about to call out and stop them.

However, I raised my voice. "Let them go!"

Silvia turned to look back with a smug and radiant expression like a peacock in full display, seemingly certain she had won.

The butler leaned close, and his voice trembled. "Princess Evelyn… the three pledged Alphas have walked out. What will you do now?"

Around me, the murmurs swelled again—this time laced with doubt and fear.

"She's just an Omega… She could never hold Northaria together without an Alpha by her side."

"With all three of them gone, this might be the end of Northaria's legacy…"

I straightened my shoulders and lifted my chin. "Today isn't just my coming-of-age ceremony, it's also my engagement banquet."

Behind me, the enormous screen suddenly flickered to life. And then, Heath's sharp, chiseled face appeared.

Gasps echoed through the hall, and everyone widened their eyes in disbelief.

"Is that… is that Alpha Heath? From the Pyraxis pack?"

Quin's eyes slowly dimmed, and the light faded until there was nothing left. Without a word, he pushed himself up and walked away.He couldn't face the truth anymore—not the harsh reality, and certainly not the weight of the mistakes he'd made.…The next time I saw Quin was the day Heath and I held our mate ceremony. As we rode toward the hall, I caught sight of a few familiar figures. They weren't as polished or proud as they used to be, but the cold, ruthless edge in their gazes hadn't softened one bit.Silvia kneeled with tears streaming down her face. She first clutched Quin's pant leg, but when he didn't even glance at her, she turned to Mason. However, Mason didn't even acknowledge her. Even Kayden—the one who once spoiled her like a queen—looked at her with nothing but disgust and gave her a harsh kick.Silvia's usual pleas for help fell on deaf ears. This time, no one reached out to save her.I met Quin's eyes for a brief moment, but then I looked away coldly. After t

When I was seven, I was abducted by a Rogue leader. Back then, another pup was caught too.Without a second thought, he threw himself in front of me, using his own body as a shield. I could feel the wild, savage energy radiating off him, like a starving beast ready to tear anything apart to keep me safe.Back then, I didn't know who he was. He hid me inside a rusty, abandoned barrel, then went off alone to lure the Rogues away. Later, it was Quin who found me. His arrival pulled me from the edge of danger, and I was overwhelmed with gratitude. But that gratitude slowly twisted into something deeper—something like love. When I looked back now, Quin wasn't really the one who saved me. He just happened to open the lid of that barrel.Heath caught my gaze with a cold smirk, and his voice was low and steady. "You said you'd be grateful to me forever. And what happened? After you healed, you never came looking for me."There was no anger in his tone, just a quiet reproach that gnawed

Back when the three of them were first adopted, it was Quin who insisted on keeping the Lawson family name. Dad never forced him otherwise. Now, for the first time in this whole confrontation, Quin finally lifted his head. His gaze was sharp as a blade, piercing straight into mine. Those eyes that once held warmth and affection were now filled with jealousy, as if they wished to tear me apart.Upon seeing how I instinctively stepped away from Quin, Heath tightened his grip on my hand and smiled.Quin's throat seemed to close up as words failed him. After a long silence, he forced the words out. "Are you really going to choose Heath as your mate?""Quin," Dad's cold voice cut in. He was layered with authority as he stepped to my side. His hawk-like eyes bore down on Quin, and it was sharp enough to burn. "Who gave you the audacity to ask that?"Under the weight of Dad's gaze, Quin bowed slightly and fell silent. "I was out of line," he muttered with his voice low and heavy with

The banquet was well underway when, suddenly, dozens of trucks filled with lavish gifts rolled into the hall. Most eye-catching were the countless Moonlight Blossoms crates—rare flowers worth tens of thousands each. They were delivered in waves, flooding the venue until the entire hall shimmered like a silver sea of petals. And at the far end of that blooming ocean, Heath appeared.Tall and imposing, he walked slowly down the red carpet. The moment he entered, the chatter died. His presence alone commanded silence. He wore a faint smile, but no one dared to meet his gaze directly.Dad frowned and whispered, "Did anyone invite him?"Guests exchanged puzzled glances, and their faces were a mix of shock and unease. To everyone here, Heath was dangerous. He was the Alpha of the Pyraxis pack—the most populous and powerful pack in all of Northaria. But more than that, he was the subject of countless rumors. No one wanted to become his Luna, not since all his previous mates had died

The tension in the ballroom was thick enough to choke on. Just as the whispers grew louder, Dad walked in, having just wrapped up his royal duties. With a commanding smile, he stepped forward and declared, "That's right. My daughter is the princess of Northaria. Only the strongest of all men is worthy to stand by her side. "As for those three guys who grew up in the palace—I took them in out of pity. They were never part of any pledged Alphas. So let's stop spreading that nonsense, shall we?"The words hit the room like a clap of thunder, but the doubt didn't leave the guests' faces. A few Alphas of other packs couldn't help but say, "Heath from the Pyraxis pack might be strong, but that wolf of his is pure violence. ""They say even he can't control it. Every mate he's had has died mysteriously. No one's dared to go near him in years.""Sure, he's powerful, and yes, the guy looks like he stepped out of a dream—but that wolf is a monster. Even his own pack keeps their distance.
