“Lance,” a voice said from a distance. “Lance, wake up. We’re here.”
I opened my eyes to see it was Leila. I breathed a sigh of relief and leaned my head back against the headrest, Selestra and the events of the past long gone. I was here with Leila and with our son, Jase. “Oh, I’m sorry,” I said, rubbing my eyes. Then, I suddenly remembered falling asleep with Jase on my shoulder. “Jase!”
Leila laughed. “I have him. See?”
I looked over at her, and he was awake, playing with a set of keys on her lap. I breathed a sigh of relief, and scrubbed a hand across my
face. “I’m sorry. I must have fallen asleep.”
Leila reached over and placed a hand gently upon my cheek. “You were having a nightmare. Are you okay?”
I nodded, reaching out to take Jase from her. I cradled him to my chest, thankful to be in the p
