Eloise

“So what? You’re just going to walk away from my life like we hadn’t spent the last two years as married couples?”

“Yes.” His voice plain like this was just some mere question.

“Is this what you want? A Divorce?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“And what about last night?” I flung my hands in the air, my eyes staring at my Adonis of a husband as he knotted his tie.

“Eloise.” He paused, his eyes taking me in.

“That was just a mere night Elle, you couldn’t have counted it as anything serious, could you?” The causality in his voice was torn to my flesh, I hated it.

I looked at him, so many words to say but it felt like my tongue was caught.

He nodded negatively, “you did? It was just a night Elle, you didn’t have to savor it.”

“I did Savor it, it was my first time and our first time as married couples in two years of being married. How could you think I would take it as a joke?” I asked but was answered with his silence.

What did I expect from an emotionally unavailable, self absorbed man like Edward Bassett?

He stopped what he was doing and looked me straight in the eyes, as he slowly made his way towards me.

He reached where I was standing and stared at him.

“You knew a day like this would come, Elle.” He smiled at me and I wondered why. He was divorcing me and he was smiling like there was something fun going on.

He gently grabbed my face and I looked him in the eye, he was serious.

“Then why did you do it?” I pressed my lips together trying to hold back the tears.

“Do what?” He asked and I realized he was still holding me so I pushed him away from me.

“All of the time we spent together lately, the date nights, the movies, how you made me feel, we had sex, Edward. Did that not mean anything to you?” He nodded negatively, a smile on his face.

“No, Eloise. I was just trying to fulfill my duty as your husband before divorcing you. You knew this day would come. We signed a contract.”

“So all of that was to fulfill your duty?” I wiped my eyes and watched as he nodded without any remorse. I was a fool to think that he loved me. I was so stupid to think that things could finally work out and we would be a happy couple.

“These are the papers, sign them and I promise to keep to my ends of the bargain and give you your payment.”

“I do not want any stupid payment, I want you,” I yelled.

“I’ll head downstairs, our guests are waiting for us. It’s the last day of us being a married couple. We should enjoy it. I’ll be waiting for you downstairs.” He patted me on my shoulder, still smiling as he walked out.

I couldn’t believe what had just happened. I picked the papers up from the bed and read them line after line, word after word. He really wanted things done with me. He was serious about it.

I hadn’t expected this, this wasn’t what I thought would happen today of all days which happened to be our second anniversary.

Yes, the only reason why Edward Bassett, who was my boss two years ago, had asked me to marry him was because he needed to save his father’s legacy, it was just a contract and although our marriage kicked off roughly, things were slowly looking better.

Not until months ago, Edward hadn’t had my time or cared that he had a wife, he’d been too carried away by work and I barely saw him but then he changed, always wanting to be sure that I was okay, being around me and trying his best to make time for me.

For the first time yesterday, we had sex to celebrate our two years of being married, I could remember every stroke of his hard cock against my wet pussy.

The way he made me feel, that couldn’t have been fake, that couldn't have meant anything to him? His little whispers of nothing. The way he clung to my skin.

How could he? I looked at the papers again, my name boldly written on them.

Eloise Vanessa Bassett.

Was this real? No, it couldn’t.

The sound of soft music from our anniversary party played gently, making me feel weird about everything.

Something was wrong somewhere, he had been the one to coax me into having an anniversary party, he had been the one to make all of the plans, he told me he had something special to tell me, he couldn’t be the divorce, he sounded too happy for it to be a divorce.

I needed to see him, if he needed space, then I would give him space, but he needed to tell me what was wrong.

I picked myself up from the chair and stormed out of the room.

I reached the main room where the party was being held. Businessmen roaming around, meeting up with other people of their caliber while my eyes ransacked the entire room for my husband.

I had searched for a few minutes and hadn’t seen him. As a maid passed by me, I stopped her and asked for the whereabouts of my husband.

“Have you seen my husband?” I asked, my hopes high that talking to him could solve things.

“I saw him go to the guest room. Mrs Bassett.”

“Okay, thank you.” I gave a fake smile and immediately headed for the stairs but as I walked by I was stopped by an older lady who looked so stunning and also looked like she had a million things to say.

“Darling, congratulations on your anniversary. I wish you guys many happy years as a beautiful couple.”

I smiled. That would only work if I could talk to my husband right now.

“Thank you, I smiled.”

“And it looks like there’s a little one coming soon.” She looked at my tummy and I smiled.

Fuck I wanted to be out of here immediately.

The woman, who I remember her name to be Mrs Huston, is a family friend and I didn’t want to be rude to her but I had to see my husband before he made a mistake that could ruin both of us.

“Thank you so much. If you could please excuse me I have something urgent to attend to, I promise, I will be back soon.” She smiled at me and patted my hand warmly.

“Sure there.” I nodded and gave one last fake smile before climbing up the stairs and heading to the guest room.

I reached the guest room and without wasting a second, I pushed the door open, barging into the room.

“Edwa….” I gasped at the sight in front of me, my jaw dropping, my legs suddenly forgetting how to stand and every bone in my body letting go of me.

The sounds I heard were horrible and I felt faint.

Edward’s povI hadn’t told Charlotte anything before stepping out of the house. But I knew that I needed to be out of here without her knowing where I was going.I was tired.Tired of her voice.Sick of the screams. I hated acting like it was okay even when it wasn’t but it wasn’t like I would do anything with her. My past with her was a bad one.I felt a sharp pain as I got into my car. I shook my head and looked at the drugs in the cup holder as I looked away.I turned the key and went to the one place that had been the very last on my list for days. The hospital. Not just any hospital. The one where my doctor, Lennox, works. After all, it was the only place I went for my treatment and he was the only doctor I’ve trusted for years. I doubted he would do anything bad to me.When I arrived at the hospital, I parked and walked in. Some of the nurses said hello. I nodded my head and didn’t speak back because I wasn’t in the mood to speak.First, I took the elevator to the third floor w

Charlotte’s povI drove to Carmen’s school feeling good. I could feel the dress hugging my body in all the right places. I needed to look good. I didn’t know who I would meet that would take me away from Edward. I wasn’t his until he had done the bare minimum. For now, he was just the random guy who would be my backup. Until then, I would be faithful to him or whatever. It wasn’t like I had a choice. As I got out of the car, I could see so many people looking at me. But I didn’t mind. They would have to start getting used to seeing me like this. With a smile on my face, I walked into the school as people turned to me.Heads turned, and I enjoyed the attention.I reached the classroom and saw Carmen sitting quietly. She was drawing something again, probably her usual flowers. She looked happy to see me.“Mama!” she called and waved.Oh my dear. She was so precious to me. I would do anything to keep her safe.I walked in as one of the teachers stepped up to me in an aggressive way whic

  • Winning My Ex Wife   Chapter 27

Charlotte’s pov“No, I didn’t,” he replied.“Too bad,” I said. “Because if you’re not on the case, I’ll end your career. Keep that in mind.”He glanced off for a moment and then back at me.“Playing with a man’s life,” he said. “It’s serious. He is sick, but if you keep playing with his treatment, you might kill him.”I shrugged. “Well, maybe he should have thought about that before he ignored me for years. Before he threw me away like trash.”He shook his head slowly. “This won’t end well.”I got to my feet and went over to him, close.“So what, doctor?” I repeated. “You come here to scare me? Beg me to stop?”He stared, saying nothing.“I’m not scared of you,” I whispered. He looked at me again.“I came here because you need to know one thing,” he said, slowly. “I have a line. If you cross it? I’ll talk. I’ll tell him everything.”I just laughed."I'll probably do it."I drew back from him and smiled.“Alright,” I said as I reached for a glass of juice. “You tell him first. I’m goin

  • Winning My Ex Wife   Chapter 26

Charlotte’s povI was studying a red dress –slinky, low-cut, the sort of thing designed to fathom depths when I saw a man with a woman glancing at me.He was definitely married, conversing with a woman not his wife, helping her decide which dress to buy. I knew she wasn’t his wife–too young, too loud.Until I saw his hand.A circle.Wed.Even better. He was married. He looked up and saw me. Our eyes locked. He kept looking.I smiled. He smiled back, and then… he did something daring. He blew me a kiss. I raised an eyebrow and smirked. Bold. Very bold.I looked at the dress in my hands then back at him.He pointed towards the changing room. First curtain at the right corner. I understood.I nodded slightly. And I, myself, walking over.Waited within the changing room.It smelled of new cloth and heavy perfume. The music playing in the shop was low. My heart pounded fast, but not out of fear. Out of… excitement.I heard the sound of a curtain sliding to one side.He walked in. He did

Edward’s povI was standing in the hallway, just outside the boardroom. My hands were on my hips. My eyes were squeezed shut. I was gritting my teeth.I still felt all the eyes of the board members burning holes in my back.I wanted to scream. She had done it again.Charlotte.How could she come into my office like that? With that goddamn outfit on. Was I as crazy? She looked liens hooker.Like she's going to a private party or something?I forced myself to open my eyes and look down at the floor. My heart was pumping, I was trying not to get excited, but I couldn't help it, my blood was too hot.I had important things to do—mergers, meetings, deadlines. But now the whole board thought I was a bad fucking joke. A man who couldn’t even deal with his own life.I heard a small voice beside me. It was my assistant, Jason. He held a file, but he seemed more nervous than he usually was."Sir, are you alright?" he asked cautiously.I didn’t reply, just shook my head and took a deep breath.

  • Winning My Ex Wife   Chapter 24

Charlotte’s povI came back from the bar after meeting with Dr. Lennox. I was feeling good. I had done what I needed to do. He would listen to me sooner or later. He always did.But as I entered the house, my good mood quickly dropped.Edward was at the front door, already dressed for work. He was fixing his cufflinks. I saw his tie was a little crooked, so I smiled and walked closer to him.“Let me help you,” I said gently, reaching for his tie.I tried to straighten it, just like I used to. Just like a wife would. But Edward stepped back.He didn’t say a word.He didn’t even look at me.He just moved past me, opened the door, and walked out.The door closed behind him.I stood there frozen, my hand still in the air. That feeling… I hated it. Like I was invisible. Like I meant nothing.I slowly put my hand down and walked back inside. My heart was racing. Not because I loved him. No. I didn’t even know what love was anymore. But I hated being ignored.I hated being treated like I was
