Dark Illusions: Wicked Truths

Dark Illusions: Wicked Truths

"Can you for once just watch where you’re going so I don’t have to save you all the time?” He asked, exhausted from my clumsiness and sarcasm. I smirked and looked him directly in those perfect coffee eyes of his, “Probably not.” Amara Flores has never been able to truly be a good supernatural. Her anger issues and violent outrages have caused more damage to her town than anything can attest to. The talk is even worse, as it only fuels her desire to not be perfect like everyone expects. Even though she is powerful and destructive, she is both loved, feared and misunderstood. Why is she like this? She's only meant to be a werewolf, right? Wrong. She only learns about her true self but it's too late. Had her parents told her the truth earlier, maybe many people wouldn't have died. Maybe she wouldn't be separated from most of her family. And maybe her and her friends wouldn't have to face the prophecy and its dangers alone. Or better yet, maybe the man that is supposed to protect her should do a better job.

Chapter: Chapter 3: Deja Vu
Mateo was silent as he walked to my right. I wanted to ask him questions. So many questions, actually, that they were practically fighting to escape my mouth. Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to form a single coherent word in his presence. A cat had my tongue. My grandmother's favorite saying. She'd used it my entire childhood because I was always talking and almost never quiet. Whenever I suddenly found myself with nothing to say—or simply couldn't find the words—she'd smile and ask, Cat got your tongue? I hated when she said it. Usually, it ended with a complete meltdown because I hadn't understood that she was joking. Now, though? “Cat got your tongue?” The deep voice beside me made me jump. I slowly turned my head toward him. Um, hello? Can he read my mind? All right, Amara. Form a sentence. Any sentence. Before the silence goes on too long and he starts thinking you're a freak. We still had a decent walk to our next class, and I didn't need to make myself look any mor

Chapter: Chapter 2: It Comes in Threes
In the beginning, there were Three. The Three, born from Life and Death themselves, walked the Earth alone, each separated from the others. They could feel the life force of their siblings as they wandered aimlessly through the days and nights, with nothing but the elements and silence to keep them company. Driven mad by loneliness, they began to beg the Sun, Moon, and Earth for help. They were met with silence. When the first felt as though all hope was lost, he turned toward the Sun and cried out for his suffering to end. “I have given you everything I can, and the only thing I have left to give is my life!” He screamed toward the sky, no longer willing to fight for himself or the sisters he'd lost. The following morning, he wandered into the desert, preparing for the Sun to take him. He felt he would be a coward if he ended his own life. Instead, he wanted the elements to take him and allow him to become part of the Earth he'd wandered for far too long. It would be his fi

Chapter: Chapter 1: The Shadows Talk
There's always a man who watches me. He hides in the shadows, only stepping into the faint glow of the streetlights overhead. He waits until I'm alone. He follows me everywhere I go. I see him when I pass between classes or when I stare out the window during a lecture that has managed to bore me into insanity. He waits for me after school, hiding between the shadows cast by the buildings so I never have a clear view of his face. I may not see him. But he's always there. It must be such a thrill. Yet he never approaches me. Over time, we gradually gravitate toward each other, like magnets desperately attempting to cling to a tiny piece of metal when they're being pulled apart. I can feel his presence like a sixth sense, although what I truly am probably explains that. I don't want to be anywhere near him. But I can't help it. I'm intrigued. And it's going to get me killed. A spark deep inside my body erupts whenever he's around. I can't explain it, but I need him. Still,
