Chapter: Rumours and Stupid Hugs
Ferdi My phone buzzed on the couch as I slouched in the cellar, drinking myself out. I picked it up lazily, only to see a live proposal from Caine. That idiot who forgets boundaries. He was proposing to Karel. A dry laugh escaped my lips as I watched him kneel on the floor. For my Vice to be his boyfriend. I watched with white knuckles. God help him if he said yes to Caine. I couldn’t shake the feel in my chest as I took another swig directly from the bottle. The vodka suddenly felt useless in my mouth. Karel stared at him with confusion and something I wanted to slap off his face. Why the hell was he looking at Caine like he was sorry. I tossed the phone aside and scrambled up. I didn’t have the intention of attending school today, but I found myself dressing with fumbling hands. Caine was a very idiotic swimmer who thought rumours died down with another rumour. It doesn’t work without fists, and I was going to show them how. I stopped at a phone shop without meaning to. I

Chapter: After Effect
Karel I literally dragged my feet out of the boardroom, every step reminding me that my life was a total mess. Tears burned in my eyes, but I didn’t know how to bring myself to cry out and slam things down. My throat burned to scream, to curse out at those fucking ‘devoted’ fans. That’s what they called themselves because Caine could never be at fault. It was my damn fault for him to propose to me and do all the stupid stuff inside that computer room. Of course it was my fault. I had to be a tool to die down rumours and I made it worse. My shoulders slumped at my sides, the weight of everything I knew and the things I never knew pressing down on me. It was normal to get insults. I’d gotten that every day of my fucking miserable life. The little fan slurs wouldn’t do any harm to my already broken chest. I heard footsteps behind me. I was sure it was Caine. After what he’d done he still had the gut to follow me. I didn’t look back when he called me twice. I just have to walk aw

Chapter: A Public Proposal
Karel The atmosphere in the school felt so different. The students hung around, perching on staircases, whispering hushly into each other’s ears, contrasting the regular quiet vibe of Ashford. I didn’t look sideways as I walked in. I walked straight, ignoring the constant quietness when I passed. I intended not to care about their dramatic approach, but when it seemed like the topic was about me, I couldn’t care less. I stared at their faces, maybe I could find the answers to the reason of their gossips. But the detached look they gave me told me the only thing I needed to know—whatever this was about… it’s not good news. I slowed in my steps, my legs suddenly felt like lead. I should have just ditched school, right? My shirt was tugged at from behind. I almost screamed out. I couldn’t be a victim of bully. I hate being picked on. I already put on a fighting stance when I saw it was Dael. I breathed out in relief. “Don’t scare me like that.” I twisted the lollipop in my mo

Chapter: A One Time Decision 2
Karel The atmosphere was chill, almost like nobody contained it. The AC became useless, I felt cold sweat run down my spine. Earlier, Pedro dropped a cup of coffee in front of me. He watched me with those predator eyes I knew somewhere. Every move I made, he noticed even when my hand trembled on the plastic cup–he saw it. He looked too familiar, I also started doubting myself about who he'd looked like. My eyes went up from the cup I didn't drink from, to Pedro. “You intend to keep quiet the whole time and just stare at me?" Pedro chuckled, “No, I didn't. I need to see what my client looks like.” Client? Sounds more like ‘tool’. I thought he'd actually come here to question me but it seems it was all wrong. “My head hurts, let me go." I reclined in my chair. "Not until we make a deal.” Pedro curled his fingers. "I'll get you back your position in soccer.” My eyes widened, what research has he been doing about me? The way he looked at me tells he knows a lot more about

Chapter: A One Time Decision
KarelI was jolted from my sleep by the loud noise outside my room. The bang was persistent, like it wasn’t from my dream.I jerked my eyes open. The chaos was real. Every loud cry made my heart skip. I scrambled off the bed with shaky legs. The dizziness that hit me felt like a tsunami. It brought me back down forcefully.I held my head at the sharp pain that pierced through my skull. The faint smell of alcohol on my clothes reminded me where I’d been last night. How the fuck did I end up in my room? I pressed my temples, trying to get a glimpse of anything that had happened, but it was like trying to break through a concrete wall. The sudden scream from outside made me get back on my feet again, ignoring the pull and dragginess of my bones. The noise was from outside the house. I stopped dead in my tracks when I caught sight of men in black. They didn’t look like goons. They looked like officers in disguise. My heart raced as I came further to the partly opened front door. Chapter: Stakes and Regret
Ferdi“What would you say about this?” Pedro slammed a paper in front of me. My eyes narrowed at it. I already knew what it was going to be—the murder incident. I raised my eyes from the gross picture of Shark on the paper. “It’s what it is.” I pushed it back to him, clearly disgusted. Pedro’s jaw ticked. It was the first time I ever saw that look on his face—clear disgust and anger. “This is making two murders in two weeks. What does life mean to you, Ferdinand?” His eyes shone with hate and helplessness. I raised a brow at him. I’d never asked myself that question before. What did life even mean? It meant nothing to me as long as I got what I wanted, as long as no one got on my nerves. “He started it.” I reclined in my seat. “Is that why you called me here?”“I didn’t raise a son like you.” He lowered his voice gravely. “You didn’t raise me.” I replied with equal quietness. The heavy silence settled between us like a weight pressed down on us. For a moment none of us mov
