Chapter 7: Sudden Question

I picked up the chair Soleil pushed to the ground. Then looked at Micah, who was rumbling mean words.

Micah couldn’t forgive Soliel and the truth to be told. I couldn’t either, but unlike Micah, I was reminded to stay cool-headed.

Micah looked at me and asked, “Can’t you get angry, or aren’t you mad at all?” I softly laughed as I didn’t know how to respond to her.

“Well…I am angry. But we’re in school. I can’t just lash everything out,” I tried answering her.

“You should get angry more. I don’t like the fact you always stay calm in everything,” Micah looked away from me and pulls out a black notebook from her bag. “I didn’t want to do this, but she’s now in my death notebook.”

I guess this is how friendships are. There will be those who aren’t genuine at all. No, I’m actually at fault. I should have known what kind of person Soleil was. But her acting was too great that I didn’t notice.

“Micah, did you ever notice how Soleil acted in front of us?”

“To tell the truth. There were times when I felt she didn’t want us to be around her,” Micah closed her ‘death’ notebook and shoved it into her back. “Screw her. I don’t need her when I have you around.”

I want to thank Micah one day. An introvert like me always had a hard time finding friends. I thought I had to worry about not socializing with others. But thanks to Micah, I was able to survive.

“Thank you.”

Micah tilted her head and had a confused expression. She pointed at herself and asked, “You’re thanking me?” I nodded my head, and she rubbed her cheek. “I don’t know what for, but you’re welcome. I guess?”

As I looked out of the window. I saw a black SUV parking in the lot. Then saw two familiar people. A guy with pink-colored hair stuck his head out and was punched by Wayne on the head.

I suppressed my laughter as I didn’t want to look dumb as other classmates entered the classroom. But what are they both doing there?

Even if I told myself not to mind their business. It pins my interest in what those three are. Maybe the rumors were not wrong at all.

That day during the rooftop. I was suddenly attacked for unknown reasons. But one thing I am sure of is the necklace. It was as if the necklace held some sort of importance.

If I ask my father about it, how will he answer me? I bet he would just say it’s a necklace my sister owned.

I watched Joshua hand Sian a piece of paper, and he did not receive it well. His expression turned a whole 180, glaring down at the paper he read. Judging from his face, something bad did happen.

Then suddenly when Joshua turned his head and looked up. I lowered my head and accidentally slammed my face onto the table.

Micah, who was nearby, walked towards me and laughed at me. I raised my head slightly and rubbed my nose, which ached the most.

“What are you doing?” asked Micah which I did not respond as I was busy looking out of the window for the last time. But the two tall figures were gone, and so was the black SUV. “Is there something interesting outside?”

Micah takes a peek and sees nothing. She looked at me weirdly and said, “There’s nothing outside. I thought you were looking at guys.”

“W-what?” I stuttered. “Why would I look at guys?”

“It’s normal for us girls to look at guys. Whether you like it or not. That’s just the nature of women.”

“What wise words from a girl like you,” I teased her for fun.

“Hey, I’m being serious at least,” said Micah. “Won’t you date at least experiencing having a boyfriend?”

“Not yet,” I told Micah.

It is not because I am not interested in dating. It is because I don’t know what to do in the future yet.

My parents, for sure, want me to take over their business, but I want to do something I love, like becoming a marine biologist or pursuing arts. Even if I am not skilled in drawing or any form of art.

“That reminds me. I don’t think I can bring you home today,” said Micah as she checked her phone. “I have a date,” She winked at me.

“With who? A new guy?”

“You sound as if I don’t have a permanent lover,” Micah squinted her eyes at me.

“You’re not entirely wrong.”

“You’re mean. At least I’m trying.”

“And heartbroken,” I laughed at her while she glares at me.

“You…that’s not nice. I can’t help it. At first, they seem to be alright. Then later on, it becomes weird.”

“You will find one soon. Just calm down with your dates,” I pushed her back to her seat.

“Can’t help it,” muttered Micah.

When the last bell for the day rung. Everyone in the classroom immediately stood up and stretched their backs.

I seriously think the school has a problem with the class schedule. Imagine placing two subjects that give headaches to their students equals death.

I poked the hole using the straw and drank the strawberry milk I had bought earlier. I knew nothing could be compared to this drink. It’s the love of my life.

I stayed seated in my seat since I wasn’t in a rush to do anything. I think I will stay in school for a bit. I don’t want to go home just yet.

The chair in front of me softly hit my table when I looked up. I met a pair of light blue eyes gazing down at me.

“You’re not going home yet?” Joshua asked me, and I nodded. “Why? Wouldn’t it be better to be at home?”

“Not really. Since no one is at home. Maybe father will be, but it’s still later at night.”

“Lonely?” Joshua asked with his gentle, soothing voice.

“I would be lying if I said no.”

“Then should I stay with you for a while?”
