"Is that really the part you focused on?" Leah raises an eyebrow.
"How long?"
"About two years." She shrugs.
"...Has he touched you?" Lucien's wolf growls, his jaw tightens.
"What?" Leah blinks.
“Has he touched you?”
He repeats the question.
"Dude." She folds her arms. "I'm twenty-three… Not thirteen." A brief silence follows, then she narrows her eyes.
"Why are you so interested in my relationship?" You've known me for, what... an hour?" She points toward the door. "And that beautiful woman outside? Let her know she has absolutely nothing to worry about."
"I'm not interested in you. We're doing business. That's all." Lucien says nothing as Leah continues. "I don't care who you really are. I mean I dbut… idon't want to know." She smiled.
"You pay me. I treat you and when you're better… I'm gone."
"You need the money." Lucien studies her quietly.
"The orphanage where I grew up is being sold." Leah hesitates. "If I don't buy it..." She sighs. "...those kids lose the only home they've ever known."
For the first time… Lucien sees something beyond the stubborn nurse.
He sees a woman carrying responsibilities that aren't even hers.
Without another word, he leaves the room.
"...Weirdo.” Leah watches the door close.

Lucien pushed open the office door without another word.
"You're late." Adrian looked up first.
"I was busy." Lucien removed his bloodstained jacket and tossed it onto the sofa.
"Judging from the blood, I'd say that's an understatement." Jackson, the captain of the royal guards and Chief adviser, frowned.
"Report." Lucien took his seat behind the desk.
"We searched the scene." Adrian exchanged glances with the others.
"There were eleven attackers… nine dead and two escaped."
"They were trained." Lucien rested his elbows on the desk.
"They weren't ordinary rogues." Jackson nodded. "They fought like soldiers."
"The ambush happened here." Another adviser, Ethan Cole, unfolded a map across the table.
"They chose the only route where reinforcements couldn't reach you quickly."
"They knew exactly where I'd be." Lucien studied the map.
"Someone leaked your movements." Adrian spoke and no one argued.
"Only seven people knew the Alpha King planned to leave today." Councilor Damien Wolfe frowned.
"The council, hs personal guards, the palace staff, and us." Jackson counted on his fingers.
"One of them is feeding information to Owen." Damien's expression darkened.
"Or someone close to us is." Adrian folded his arms.
"No accusations." The office became noticeably colder. Lucien's gaze swept across every face. "Not yet."
"If Owen knows your schedule..."
"...he'll know much more soon." Marcus clenched his jaw.
"There's another concern." Ethan hesitated before speaking. Lucien looked at him.
"The human." The room suddenly became silent again.
"You felt it too." Adrian rubbed the back of his neck.
"The mate bond." Ethan nodded.
"I never thought I'd live long enough to see the Alpha King's mate be human." Marcus exhaled slowly.
"Maybe she isn't." Damien frowned.
Everyone looked at him as he continued.
"What if she's hiding her aura?"
"A witch?" Jackson suggested.
"It's possible." Damien nodded.
"I stood beside her." Adrian shook his head. "I didn't sense magic, didn't sense wolf, nothing." Lucien finally spoke. "But my wolf recognized her." A wolf never mistook its mate.
"Then..." Ethan looked uncomfortable.
"...the prophecy has begun."
"Fifty days." Jackson lowered his voice.
"The High Moon Priest wasn't wrong." Damien looked directly at Lucien.
"If the sacrifice isn't made..."
"We're not discussing that." Adrian immediately interrupted.
"We have no choice."
"We always have a choice."
"The prophecy has never failed."
"And neither has Lucien."
The two men glared at each other before Lucien raised one hand and the argument ended instantly.
"Find Owen." His voice remained calm.
"I want every spy, every informant, every ally he still has."
"It'll be done." Jackson nodded.
"Come in." Another knock echoed through the office.
The door opened and Sophia entered wearing a confident smile.
"There you are." She ignored everyone else before walking straight toward Lucien.
Adrian exchanged a knowing glance with Marcus. Neither of them liked where this was going.
"I've been looking everywhere for you." Sophia rested one hand on Lucien's shoulder. Without asking permission, she leaned closer.
"Sophia." Lucien caught her wrist before her lips could reach his cheek.
"Don't." His voice was flat.
"It's only me." Her smile stiffened.
"It doesn't matter." He released her wrist and stood. "Keep your distance."
The room fell completely silent.
"So..." Sophia looked embarrassed for only a second before anger replaced it. "It's true… The human really is your mate."
“Haha.” When no one answered, she laughed. "Then why are we wasting time?"
She looked directly into Lucien's eyes. "Kill her.”
Jackson lowered his head and Damien looked away. Even Adrian's face hardened.
“Prophecies exists for a reason." Sophia continued. "You have fifty days. If she dies… you get to live."
Lucien slowly walked around his desk.
Every step echoed through the office before he stopped directly in front of her.
His silver eyes were colder than usual. "Leave."
"You'd risk your kingdom..." She refused to move. "...for a human?"
"I said leave."
"You'll regret this." She swallowed.
"My patience ends before my life does." Lucien's expression didn't changed.
Sophia stared at him for another moment before storming out and slamming the door behind her.
For a while no one spoke.
"What if she's right?" Finally Adrian broke the silence.
Lucien turned toward the window overlooking the guest wing where Leah was staying.
"No one decides my mate's fate..."
"...except me."
Leah’s POV~~~~For two days straight, I hadn't stepped foot outside of Lucien's room door. I tried my best to find whatever could help him get back his strength and I still couldn't get anything.I sat on the edge of the chair pulled right up to the side of the bed, a small basin of cool water on the nightstand beside me. My eyes burned with a prickling of exhaustion, the dark circles under my eyes but I refused to close them for more than a few minutes at a time.Every time I drifted off, I would see his bloody face under the rain. I squeezed out a cotton cloth out of the icy water and back into the basin before folding it neatly. Leaning forward, I gently pressed the cool cloth against Lucien’s forehead. His skin was still far too hot, but with Madam Vanessa’s herbal tinctures and my relentless round-the-clock nursing care, his temperature had slowly dropped out of the dangerous zone, even the black roots had gone back into his collarbone. "Come on, Lucien," My whispered echoing in
Leah’s POV Julian stood there for a long time and then the rage drained from his face. He looked down at his blade, then back at me, lowering his hand to his side."You're making the biggest mistake of your life, Leah," Julian said. Before I could answer, Adrian burst inside, his sword drawn and covered in fresh red blood, with two Blackwood guards close behind him."Lucien!" Adrian yelled, his eyes sweeping the room until they landed on the person on the floor.Adrian froze, his eyes widening in shock as he saw me lying over his Alpha King's body, shielding Lucien's chest with my own, holding a silver knife against Julian."Lower your weapons!" Julian commanded, stepping back toward the exit of the tent as the Blackwood guards raised their crossbows. "The rescue is over."Julian looked at me one last time, his eyes filled with a hint of disappointment that made my stomach twist. "I hope he's worth it, Leah," Julian whispered and with a swift motion, Julian disappeared into the woods
Leah’s POVI've been waiting, my mind still rising with different thoughts. I tried to sleep but I couldn't. Wind burst inside and I scrambled backward wrapping the wool blanket tight around my chest as a shadow stepped into the doorway. “Julian?” I called before I looked up and froze… It was Lucien. He stood there soaked completely, mud caked across his clothes, and blood dripped steadily from his knuckles onto the floor. His shirt was shredded across his chest, revealing pale skin covered in bruising. But it was his eyes that stopped my heart. They were not his usual and they weren't red so he wasn't in control. The color I saw was a blinding gold mixed with red… if red was his wolf then who was this? "Lucien…?" My voice was barely a breath, choked off in my throat and Julian reached out instantly on hearing his name. He drew his blade, stepping directly between me and the doorway."Stay behind me, Leah!" Julian yelled, shifting himself into a combative mode. "How the hell did you
Lucien’s POV"Get the hell off me!"I slammed my back against the shattered pillar as I staggered through the yard, shoving Adrian’s hands away so hard he staggered back two paces into the mud."Lucien? You all, stand down!" Uncle Owen yelled, as he noticed it was me was standing there. He stepped in front of me, holding up a glass vial filled with a glowing blue tonic. "Your blood is boiling hot, Lucien! If you don't swallow this sedative right now. You need the strength, we wouldn't want your heart to burst before midnight!"I let out a laugh, now he wanted me alive to fight off the ambush? It was funny how this wanted me dead a few moments ago. He definitely deserved the best uncle award of the year. "Touch me again, Owen, and I'll tear your arm from your shoulder," I snarled, my teeth grinding together so hard my jaw throbbed. I remember that the high priest had come and told me to do anything that stressed me else the curse marks would never fade, but after Julian took Leah I rush
ome?Leah’s POVJust then Julian's men came and stood around us. “Let's go.” One of them muttered and Julian yanked my wrist hard, nearly pulling me off my feet. “No, wait.”I turned my head back to look at Lucien but Julian just wouldn't stop pulling me. Two Blackwood enforcers ran toward but three Blood-Moon fighters cut them off in a sudden clash of metal.Lucien was still down on one knee in the mud. He clutched his chest, gasping for breath, he didn't raise his sword. He just stayed there with his head hanging low, collapsing right in front of me."Julian, wait!" I pleaded, my knees thubbing. "He's dropping!""We have to go!" Julian snapped, wrenching me past the shattered stone gate and into the trees. "We stay here, we die!" Would Lucien bare to kill me? If I left with Julian and came back on my own would it be okay?My clothes were soaking, but Julian kept dragging me uphill. My heart was beating nonstop and every step away from the estate made an ache start deep in my stomac
Leah’s POV"Keep moving, Leah!"Julian’s hands were tight around my wrist, dragging me hard through the mud of the eastern yard. Rain came down hard immediately we reached outside and it felt like icy needles, stinging my face. "Julian, slow down!" I gasped, my shoes slipping in the mud as I tried to keep my footing. "You're pulling too hard!""We don't have time!" Julian yelled over the chaos, his jaw clenched as he scanned the tree line ahead. "My men are holding the back gate open! Once we reach the woods, we're clear!"Under the rain I saw a tall figure stepping out of the smoke near the main doors. My feet stopped moving before my brain could even tell them to. I nearly jerked Julian off balance as I froze, my eyes wide and fixed on the hazy courtyard. It was Lucien. He only had on a black shirt that was torn open at the chest, soaked through with rain and red blood. In his right hand, he held his broadsword. The tip dragged in the wet mud, carving a line through the dirt as he
