When Lindsay got home, Wren was already there. He and Dillon were in the kitchen making dinner when she walked into the house. “Hello, babe,” Wren said as he kissed her. “Supper is almost done, so go and change out of your uniform. Monday morning, when Lindsay walked into the sheriff’s department, she saw Izzy sitting with Max at his desk. She knew Wren had asked them to work on a project together, so she did not bother them. Lindsay went into her office and saw the stack of files waiting for her. She let out a sigh as she sat down at her desk. Before she could log into her computer, Izzy walked into her office to join her. “Good morning. As they got closer to the address, they saw cattle in a field near the road. Max stopped near them and watched for a moment. They were beginning to make noise and move around as they huddled near the fence. They began to moo louder, and one ran toward the barbed wire, stopping as it pushed against it. “I think we found where it is. Do you see it anywhere?” Max asked. “Not yet,” Izzy said as she lowered her window about an inch. “Do you?” “No,” Max answered as he lowered his window slightly as well. “Do you smell that?” “Yes, but I have no idea what it is.” “To me, it smells almost like a dog that went swimming in a cesspool,” Max told her as he wrinkled his nose. “I think I see it,” Izzy said. “Shine the spotlight down toward the corner of the field right next to the fence.
