Lindsay Gold has recently been fired from her deputy’s position at a small county sheriff’s department in the Missouri Ozarks. Just as her family has begun to recover, the sheriff quits unexpectedly, and Lindsay is asked to take over.
After her department receives calls about creatures and paranormal activities, she gets help from a federal agent, who. Unfortunately, it is her husband, Wren Gold, who never told her what his job really involved. Now, the couple must work together to protect the county.

Chapter: 51: Monsters Chapter 15 Part 4Lindsay was sitting in her office, staring at the box now sealed with evidence tape. She should have been happy. Wren had hired someone to take his mother to the airport and ensure Margaret got on the plane. Lindsay might also have answers to questions that had haunted her for years, but for some reason, she could not shake the feeling of dread that she had. “So, are you going to tell me what’s in that box?” Little Bob asked as he sat down across from her desk. “No.” “Is there evidence of a criminal case in it?” “Maybe.” “Is it a case that I am a part of?” “Maybe indirectly.” Little Bob got up, closed her office door, and sat back down. “Lindsay, look at me,” he said. “Are you alright?” Lindsay looked at him. “Yes,” she said, then turned back toward the box. She took a knife from a pouch on her belt and handed it to him. “Open it,” she told him. He raised an eyebrow as he took the knife out of her hand. He moved the box to her desk, cut the tape seal, and lifted the lid off.

Chapter: 51: Monsters Chapter 15 Part 3Wren sat beside the box on the floor that Max had begun to look through. He started by opening one of the files in his hand. Wren immediately saw a picture he recognized as Lindsay’s first husband, James. He paused, looked up, and took a few deep breaths. Just as he lowered his head, Max returned and locked the door behind him. “You alright, man?” Max asked as he set everything that he was carrying down on Lindsay’s desk. “Yeah, I uh…this is just a little harder than I thought it would be. Hanna was at the dispatch desk reading a book. He was bored. There had been no calls for the last two hours, and he was looking for something to do. “Hanna, has anything come in at all that needs to be done? I need something to do,” Max said to her as he picked up a rubber band and shot it at Yuri. “Yes, Hanna, please find something for him to do.
