Luckily my step father never returned Mrs. Winters phone call. So Mrs. Mullberry decided to take me home with her after she left a message, explaining what she was going to do and that she would drop me off, as soon as he was there to help me inside. I honestly don't know why she thought he had any shred of decency left to ever help me. Maybe she wanted to truly believe deep down, that because the school was aware of my injuries, that just, maybe, it would give him the push to try and take better care of me.....
I shook my head side to side, freeing the unrealistic thought from my mind. Already knowing in my heart that would never, ever, be the case, ever again. He hated me, because I reminded him of her and because of that, the last place I needed to be, was any where near him in my current state and I was surly going to try my fucking hardest to find away to keep myself far, far, away from him.
My supposedly good knee swayed under the weight of my body, trying to b

Small beads of sweat, began to form across the top of my forehead as I sat silently, listening to the conversation Mrs. Mullberry was having with the unknown person on the other side of the phone. I tried not to squirm as my anxiety sky rocketed at the mention of my name, making my heart skip a few beats. A stern look took over her features as she furrowed her eyebrows. " You got to be fucking kidding me! So your telling me, he called Child Services on me and now the same social worker from before is on her way over to my house right now to pick up Jasmine..... all because he told them he was afraid I was going to attack him!" she yelled, jumping to her feet as she quickly ran over to her livingroom window and looked out. " I swear he is the biggest piece OF scum on this earth, he's not even man enough to come and pick her up himself! Mmmhmm, yeah, I think I just might do that, sense he's clearly not bold enough to come pick her up by himself and face me. The social worker can't take
The engine roared to life as Mrs. Mullberry turned the ignition, quickly slamming the truck into drive has she hit the gas jolting me back into the seat. Making my heart race even faster from the sudden movement. I couldn't help but glance at the side mirror, waitng for his face to appear once more. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that he knew I was in the truck and now it would only be a matter of time before we would get caught, because all he had to do was relay the message that he saw Mrs. Mullberry driving away with me in the truck to the social worker and the cops would be alerted to find us. Even as my heart pounded in my chest as all these thoughts raced through my brain. Only one kept pushing to the front and that was I needed to get away from Mrs. Mullberry and fast, before they caught up to us. There was no way I could let her go to jail over helping me. She was to good of a person, to be locked away, She had a full life ahead of her to be able to help so many more people
BOOM! BOOM! sounds from my bedroom door, groaning under the pressure as if it was going to break in half at any moment. " Get the fuck out of bed stupid bitch," I hear from the man who's supposed to be my protector. " If you make me late again, I promise you'll regret it for the rest of your pathetic life!" He screams at me through the door. Hearing his loud foot steps stomp down the hallway. I roll over on my side sitting up from the torn futon I call my bed. I had found it by someone's garbage cans walking home from school a couple weeks ago. It was covered in dog hair and a few stains I wasn't sure what they were from. I dragged it behind me taking breaks in between the six blocks, till I reached my neighbor Tawnya's house. Grunting as I pulled the heavy mattress into her back yard over to the garden hose. I doused it in the antibacterial soap I had been given that day in health class. I stood partially bent over scrubbing away the dog hair with a few of the
The ride to school was a slow and painful one. Being on consistent alert that he could pull over at any given time and rip me from the back seat, had my stomach churning and tied in knots. We soon reached the school's parking lot. I watched as a few other students hurried away into the building. As he parked his truck I hear him tell me " To get my filthy piece of shit ass out of his truck!" I scramble to open the door hurrying to get out. I walk quickly to walk in front of him, taking the few steps two at a time to get faster into the school. Coming into the school's office Mrs. Sanchez's sweet voice sings out " Good morning Mr. Sterlite and Jasmine," I smile faintly at her taking a seat in one of the chairs waiting for him to sign me in and soon leave.Tapping my foot nervously I look around to see Mrs. Mulberry glowering at my step father, before she looks over at me giving me the warmest smile. My attentiom quickly adverting to the pain in my left leg. " You b
The rest of school went by in a blur. Not caring for all the prying eyes after my emotional display in English. I would say most of the looks were of pity... but in my life all I did was give them more ammo to make fun of my loss and bully me more. Thankful to be almost home, I see that my step father's truck is missing from the driveway. Praying that ment an easy night for me. I slowly crack the front door open, walking in. I stop for a few seconds listening to make sure I wasn't being deceived and he really wasn't home. I had learned the hard way a few times before. Thinking he was gone only to run straight smack into him earning me a split lip, a long cut down my back near my spine and no food for three days. Creeping quietly throughout the house I let out the breath I had been holding in, thankful he actually wasn't here. I go to the kitchen in hopes of maybe finding some left over food he may have forgotten about. I search the fridge scooting all the beer to the side an
My nerves were on fire, making me itch all over. I couldn't sit still. Sitting in the kitchen at the table, glancing every few seconds to the clock on the stove. Those two hours of waiting to head over to Tawnya's house were unbearable. Jumping at every little noise. A few times I could have sworn, I heard the roaring of his truck's engine pulling into the driveway. With my pace quickened I had headed into the livingroom. Peeking out from behind the black satin curtains. My eyes rapidly scanning from the driveway to the curb sitting out front of the house. Breathing out a sigh of relief, that my mind was only playing tricks on me.I hated that I couldn't even enjoy the time of being by myself. My anxiety consistently sky rocketing making me feel tired and sick. Worried when he might show up. My life was an neverending nightmare, reliving flash backs on a daily basis of the torture he put me through. Everything in this house was a reminder of the pain I went through and still
Moving quickly I rushed out grabbing the white box, glancing over to my house breathing out in a sigh of relief that my step father still wasn't home and wouldn't see me out here, as I walk back into the house T looks at the rectangular box in my arms smiling wide. " Santa brrr-ot you a present early!" she squeals out in excitement. I chuckle at her sweet innocence. " Nooo, I don't think it was Santa. He's still on vacation until Christmas," I tell her. She seems to ponder over what I said. " Yeah its still to warm for Ruud- olf," she sweetly answers. Smiling at her sweet face noding my head up and down chuckling lighlty. I carry the rectangular box into the kitchen placing it down on the table. My thoughts racing as my nerves begin to go haywire the longer I stare at the box. For the life of me I couldn't figure out who would have left something like this for me... I didn't have any friends or family that cared about me or boys who liked me and Mrs. Mulberry always gave me he
