Disillusionment

"Yes, Brian," I confirmed in response to his question. "And if I still went ahead despite that, it's because I didn't consider it to be a problem."

I knew I had done the right thing by telling Brian the truth about being chosen to be the mother of his long-awaited heir.

Even before revealing the truth, I already imagined that doing the right thing wouldn't be easy, and I prepared myself for the best and worst-case scenarios.

Considering I now had a highly upset Brian in front of me, this couldn't be considered a good scenario, and I thought it best to let him express his feelings. It was a highly dignified exercise to put oneself in the other person's shoes and understand their emotions and motivations, even when the other party was ourselves, and that was part of the process.

"But of course, it is a problem, Charlotte," he said, agitated. "It's your innocence!"

"Nothing about me has changed, except for the fact that I now have a baby growing in my womb."
