SERAFINA’S POV

I was seated in my bedroom being glammed up for the masked ball event.

I had told Adrik that I could do my hair and makeup but he had cut short my protest, insisting that he wanted his wife to look exceptional.

Staring at myself in the mirror as they worked their magic, my stomach knotted in anxiety. A soft knock on the door interrupted my thoughts as it opened to reveal Nadia holding a white garment bag that was embossed with an Alexander McQueen logo.

“Delivery for Mrs Ivanova from Mr Ivanov,” she called out, a wide smile spreading across her face.

Smiling back I rose from my seat and took the bag from her. I unzipped it slowly, my fingers trembling and my breath caught.

The dress was a rich deep shade of midnight blue, like the ocean just before a storm. It was sleeveless, with a velvet bodice curved inward, while the skirt flowed in layers. Tiny sapphire beads were sewn into the fabric, catching the light.

There was a velvet box inside the bag, I opened it and ga

SERAFINA’S POV The helicopter smelt of fuel and sweat. The sound of the rotors was so loud they rattled my teeth, but even with the noise, I could still hear my own heartbeat pounding in my skull. I sat wedged between two masked men,a shiver running down my spine as my hands shook. I glanced down at my wrists. They were sore and bruised due to the zip ties used to restrain me. I felt sick, really sick. Diana. God, where was Diana? I should have waited until we got home. Why did I push her to come to the restroom? Why now, of all times? If anything happened to her because of me— My stomach knotted. I tried to breathe, but the air in the cabin was stale. The last thing I remembered was going to the restroom with Diana and then the sudden appearance of two men, the sharp smell of chemicals as they placed a napkin over my nose. The man beside me , the one who’d shoved a knife to my throat on the tarmac, kept a gloved hand clenched around my upper arm as he said somethi

  • A Bride For A Truce   From fear or rage

ADRIK’S POV This was the second time tonight I’d ignored my gut and it had cost me. Badly. The Mercedes shot off the side street like a missile, the tires screaming as I jerked it onto the main road and Sergei’s hand shot out to brace himself. In the back seat, Marco and Vincenzo were still shouting over each other like angry crows. My pulse hammered against my chest as I thought of all the things that could go wrong. “Eyes left!” Sergei barked, pointing. “That’s them!” “I can see, I’m not blind!” My voice came out sharp. My throat burned from holding the panic that was trying to claw up. The first mistake was letting those two men get in my car in the first place. The second was not trusting my instincts at the warehouse. Now my men were chasing left, I was chasing right — and I had no clue which held Serafina. The lead car was already vanishing down the road. A second sedan had joined the chase and tried to block us, swerving like a drunk driver was behind the wheel.

  • A Bride For A Truce   To save my wife

ADRIk’S POV My fingers clenched around the tiny, blood-smeared diamond earring. For a second, all I could do was stare at it, my vision swimming, rage pounding through my skull. Serafina… My entire world had been taken. Then it hit me like a punch to the gut. I remembered fastening these earrings on her, telling her that they were custom made. What she didn’t know was that the diamond setting hid a micro-tracker. My breath caught. If this one’s here… the other one’s still on her. “Sergei!” I roared, already running as I shoved past panicked guests, who were heading towards the exit. He spun toward me, his hand hovering near his weapon. “Adrik?” “There’s a tracker in her earring! Have you seen my phone?” Sergei dug into his jacket and yanked it out, the same phone I’d dropped when the screaming started. I snatched it from his hand, my fingers slick with Vladimir’s blood as I unlocked the encrypted app. The screen lit up, and my heart kicked hard against my ribs.

ADRIK’S POV Something wasn't right. Serafina had been gone for too long, five minutes, then six, then seven— and Vladimir still hadn’t responded to my last message. My mind told me I might be overreacting, but my gut told me I wasn’t. Serafina never ignored my calls. Never. Well except at the early stages of our marriage “So what do you say Adrik?” The man across the table was smiling at me in anticipation, almost like he already knew my answer. The other bosses were staring now, waiting for my answer. “Sorry, what was that?” My voice came out flat and distracted. “I said I'll be expanding operations to Russia in the next couple of months. I’m hoping we can partner together.” “Sure. Yes, definitely.” I nodded mechanically, but my attention was already elsewhere.

  • A Bride For A Truce   Cared about you.

Serafina’s Pov.It had been five days since the dinner with Adrik and Diana. Five days since Adrik had killed Matteo. I liked to call it the dinner from hell.Communication between Diana and I had gotten strained and I worried that she was mad at me. I felt it in the silences between our texts, in the way her usual cheerful voice had gone quieter on calls. She hadn’t said it often, but I knew. She had liked Matteo more than she wanted to admit. And she wasn't taking his death well.I stepped out of the car in front of the gated villa Diana had grown up in—it had tall white ivy columns climbing up the stone walls. The trees rustled, and the faint scent of lemon balm sifted into my nose from the garden. The environment felt familiar and safe. I used to have a lot of sleepovers with Diana here when we were kids.Yuri waited in the car as I walked up the heavily guarded front gates. The stationed guards nodded in acknowledgement and let me in the moment they saw me. Immediately I go
