Prologue

August 6, 1754

The Subject today has had reactions to some of the blood samples that we gave it.  Especially the Dragon's blood that we were finally able to acquire, it was very interesting!! The results that we got from this particular experiment will be immensely helpful in the future. The big boss wants to start some different kinds of experiments on the Subject; these ones worry me though. They are not the normal way I would want us to accomplish our specific scientific goals.

Something is bothering me greatly though; today the Subject seemed a little too cooperative with us. It makes me think that it is planning something, something big.  Big and dangerous that will no doubt have grave consequences for us all.

Especially the one who has hired us all to this Facility.  He is mad with a desire for eternal life.  He has mages visit us sometimes to do different experiments on the Subject.  What they do to him is beyond me.  It sometimes appears back in its room with strange black markings on its body.  After a few days though; the markings just disappear.

This place fills me with dread, and I don’t know how much longer I can continue to work for these kinds of people.  The work here greatly tests one’s faith in God.

Oh well, tomorrow I’m going to go down to town, so I can visit my family for a couple of days.  Hopefully, I will be able to forget all of the evil things that we have

On a hilltop near the edge of the Forrest stood an average-sized boy, maybe seventeen or eighteen years of age, he was also relatively skinny in a way that did not seem healthy.  His presence is neither human nor demonic, but something in between, almost inhuman, or beastly as some might say.  He stops at the edge of the Forrest and turns back around.

His eyes were as black as the never-ending abyss and as red as staring into a pool of blood.  They were also filled with a piercing rage and excitement, as he gazed upon another hill.

Setting on the top of this hill was a humongous burning building.  The flames ranged as far up as the eye could see.  The flames raged in color from red to orange, and in some places even appearing as black.  After a couple of minutes, the boy smiled; a smile that showed his cleverness and malignance.  Then he turned back around and walked through the edge of the Forrest that was close to him leaving it behind.
