Next morning
When Queenie woke up, she was first astounded with the sight of a new, beautiful ceiling.
Just when she began admiring it did she hear a voice beside her. "I've been waiting for you."
Startled, she turned slowly to look at Pierce.
The scenes from the days before flooded into her head. She was now Mrs. Verlice and the tanned man beside her was her husband, the legendary Pierce Verlice.
"Good morning." She greeted, after she regained her senses.
The man chuckled and got off the bed. She noticed he was dressed in casual clothes and asked. "Are you going somewhere?"
"Yes." The man replied curtly and smiled. "I'm going shopping for the child's clothes and food."
"If you do that, what else do I do?" She asked, perplexed.
"I don't want you to stress yourself. Just stay at home and keep yourself healthy until you're due."
Before she could say more, the man slipped out of the room. She lowered her head while her hands grabbed the bed sheets tightly wondering why the man cared so much for a child that wasn't his.
.....
Pierce wasn't really a socialite and hence, not many people had the chance to see his face. However, his wedding with Queenie brought him out into the public's eyes.
When he got to a supermarket, Everything Babies, he was immediately recognised by the reception.
Previously, he was rumoured to be gay as there was no record of him ever having an affair with anyone or having a girlfriend. Hence, most people hadn't really cared about him.
However, the wedding the day before subverted everyone's view of him.
When the receptionist recognised him, she smiled flirtatiously. "Welcome to Everything Babies supermarket, Mr. Verlice."
Pierce nodded without sparing her a glance and proceeded to walk into the 'Baby Foods' category.
When the receptionist saw this attitude, she was immediately dissatisfied but could only keep her dissatisfaction to herself.
Pierce on the other hand had been approached by a lot of sales girls who offered to help but was in fact showcasing their feminine charms.
"I can show you around Mr. Verlice and do anything you ask of me." One of them finally summoned the courage to say.
The man glanced at her coldly before shaking his head. "Y'all, move aside."
"Mr. Verlice, it's an honor to have you in our store." A middle aged, chubby man said, breathing out sharply.
He had rushed over the moment the receptionist informed him of Pierce's appearance.
Pierce didn't even spare him a glance as he turned around and started looking at the baby foods.
The middle aged man who was the manager of Everything Babies, breathed out in relief seeing Pierce hadn't taken any offense with the branch he was managing.
As he watched the man scrutinize each food he came across, he asked cautiously. "Mr. Verlice, is there anything I can help you with?"
Pierce said nothing for a while before his cold voice rang out. "I want the receptionist fired, and the sales girls who harassed me a while ago."
The chubby man nodded almost immediately and turned to the security men who had come in with him. "Drag them to my office! Also bring the receptionist!"
The guards did as told, dragging the sales girls as they went. All pleas from them fell on deaf ears as neither Pierce nor the chubby man was fazed.
Other customers had noticed what happened and subconsciously moved away from Pierce. When Piece saw this, he smiled grimly and said again.
"Can you evacuate everyone?"
The manager nodded almost immediately and nodded at the sales persons beside him. They soon dispersed and soon, the only customer left was Pierce.
Taking out his phone, he dismissed the chubby man. "You can leave."
The chubby man bowed slightly before scurrying away.
Now, Pierce was the only one left. He dialed Queenie's number and left it on loudspeaker. When it connected, he asked. "Honey, which of the products should I buy?"
Queenie was caught off guard by the pet name so she didn't respond at once.
"I..I don't know. Buy any, I doubt anyone there won't be the best."
The man hummed. "If you say so."
"I'll be hanging up now." Queenie said in a rush and hung up.
The corners of the man's lips curled up into a smile. Then he reached out and grabbed one. However, before he could place it in his basket, he heard a voice behind him.
"Actually, Fluffy Flakes might seem like the best one, but Rose is better."
He didn't need to turn around to know it was a woman. The woman obviously guessed he wouldn't and made her way to his front where she picked the so-called Rose and showed him.
"Believe me, you won't regret it." She said with a smile.
Pierce stared at the woman for a few seconds then at the cereal in her hand before shaking his head. "Thank you, but I'll stick to the one I already have."
Anna Brendon chose to ignore the fact he was being cold to her and asked. "I don't see your wife anywhere. Did she not come with you?"
"My wife is pregnant, strenuous activities such as these are great threats to her and our child."
When Anna heard him, she replied righteously. "Actually, I don't think it's very right of her to let you do jobs like this. Things like these are for women to do, a man like you doesn't need to engage in it."
"I don't know you and I don't care, but you know what I hate? Women who stand in my way and try to act like good people."
Anna was quick to defend herself as she quickly pointed at her bulging stomach and said. "I'm not trying to say anything bad about your wife, but look at me. Although I'm heavily pregnant, I still make time to shop for my unborn child."
"Blame that on your husband. That is, if you have one." The man said slowly and walked away.
What he didn't know was that there was a paparazzi who had gotten wind of him being in Everything Babies and had sneaked in with his camera.
He had video-ed them from a far range. Hence, what they discussed wasn't heard by him. He also captured the moment Anna had pointed to her stomach and the serious look on Pierce's face.
With a news like this which he knew would top the charts, he was sure to get a higher payroll this month!
As soon as Pierce left the supermarket, he was immediately surrounded by a lot of reporters. His brows furrowed tightly and his eyes darkened. Obviously, he was annoyed. Seeing it, some reporters backed off while some new ones who were eager to gain a foothold and get a raise in salary, still questioned him crazily. "Mr. Verlice, a video was released to the general public just a few minutes ago. It was an expectant mothers' instructor, Anna Brendon, is she perhaps, your wife?" Amidst all the numerous questions being hurled at him, that was the only one that captivated his interest. He tapped the bodyguard who was warding the reporters off and gazed straight at the name tag of the lady who asked him. Sucking his teeth, he asked. "Veronica Vendell, did Anna Brendon put you up to this?" The question caught the lady off guard. However, it was not her first time of doing such a thing, hence, she wasn't so flustered. "No, Mr. Verlice. Questions like these are what the netizens are in
When Pierce got home that day, he learnt from the maidservants Queenie had gone to sleep. So as quietly as he could, he slipped into the room, into the bathroom, had his bath and quietly climbed onto the bed. Before he slept, he contemplated on whether to hug her to sleep or not to. With a sigh, he turned to the other side and slept off. Next MorningWhen Queenie woke up, Pierce was long gone. She rubbed her head nervously wondering if her words had upsetted him so much. She heard a knock on the door and got off the bed to answer it. "Good morning, Mrs. Verlice." "Good morning, Mrs. Verlice." The two maids who were outside the door greeted, lowering their heads as they spoke. Queenie was first startled by their behavior before she realized she was no longer in Velon's house where the servants treated her like trash. She smiled at them and said. "Morning. What do you two want?" The two maidservants consisted of two teenage looking girls who didn't seem to be more than 18. One
Queenie decided to go first meet Jessica before going to Glamour Entertainment. When she got outside, she met a man putting on a suit, patiently standing beside a black Bentley. When he saw Queenie, he walked up to her and bowed down a little. "Good morning, Mrs. Verlice. My name is Vincent and I was tasked to take you anywhere you wish to go. In other words, I'm your assigned driver." Queenie looked back at the car and nodded, but she had a complaint to make. "Why does it have to be such an eye-catching model?" Vincent glanced back at the car and grimaced. "Mr. Verlice knew you'd say such, which was why he gave this Bentley. It is, in fact, the lowest model in his garage." Queenie clicked her tongue. "Rich people sure know how to spend money. I'm going to meet a friend in a café." "Okay, ma'am." Said Vincent as he walked back to the car and pulled the door open. "Please." It had been a long time since she was treated in such a respectful way and as such, her cheeks burned
Finn looked towards Queenie and his expression became cold. Truth be told, he didn't really care about Queenie as she was just a used cargo. Although Velon had married her quietly, people like him had still heard the news. When he divorced her, he still heard the news. As expected, he didn't hold any respect towards her. "I'm sorry, Ms. Knight, but because you disturbed the peace of my café, I have no choice than to ask you to apologize to Mrs. Aspen and leave." It took everything in Jessica not to intervene prior to the stern eyes coming from Queenie. Vincent on the other hand couldn't bite down the disrespect and intended to teach Finn a lesson or two, but was held back by Queenie. She smiled and confidently assured him. "It's okay. I can handle this." Then she stepped forward. "Mr. Lei, I was told you were upright and just. I just don't understand why you'll choose to listen to one side and totally neglect the other. It doesn't seem just in my eyes. Instead, it looks as thoug
Queenie stuck her head outside the car's window to see smoke coming up from a place that looked familiar. "I would have suggested that it was a firework, but we both know that isn't." Queenie said, retreating her head. "I have no idea where it is you're going." Jessica gave a small smile. "Rest assured, you'll love it. It'd also bring back some old, cherished memories." Jessica's words made her a little upset, but she said nothing. Long ago, they were best friends. Then she fell in love with the low life scumbag, Velon, and her life became ruined. He literally blocked her access to the outside world, made her life unbearable, beat her and blamed her for her inability to bear a child. Thinking of her child, she held her still flat stomach slightly. Jessica glanced at her stomach briefly before focusing back on the road. "How's the baby?" "The baby is... Wait, how do you know I'm pregnant?" Queenie quickly realized and asked. "How did I get your number?" Jessica retorted,
"What's happening here?" Kira asked as soon as she arrived at the reception. When she saw Queenie and recalled the picture Andrew had shown her, her lips quavered. Almost immediately, another lady in corporate wear. When she saw the situation, her gaze faltered. However, the other receptionist who had embarrassed Queenie disregarded the conflicted look in that receptionist's eyes and went on to complain to Kira. "Kira, this lady suddenly showed up and claimed she was phoned by you to come sign an endorsement contract. However, knowing she was lying, I tried to drive her away as politely as possible, but she was so bitter that she lashed out at me." Everyone around concurred with her. Kira on the other hand could only sigh. Regardless of Queenie's rudeness, the truth was, they were in big trouble for their words towards her. "Everyone return back to your previous places. Indeed, I was the one who called her under the direction of the President." She said with a straight face as s
The contract signing only took five minutes before she was done. She stood in front of Andrew lazily. "Would you prefer to get your personal assistant and assistant or should the company assign one to you?" He asked. Queenie wanted to reject it until someone flashed past her mind. Jessica Bayne. When she pulled out her phone and called the lady who was trying to sleep in the room they reserved. "Do you think so lowly of me, Queenie?" No doubt, Jessica was upset. Queenie breathed out softly and replied. "It's just an offer. You can choose to reject it. Not like I care." She was about to hang up when Jessica huffed. "Fine, I'll do it!" She pocketed her phone and looked up at Andrew. "I already have the issue about the personal assistant sorted out. The company can assign me a manager." Andrew nodded. "I'll get her to contact you tomorrow. She'd also give you a schedule of your activities when you return here tomorrow." Queenie nodded and walked out of the conference room. When
When Queenie's eyes opened, she was surprised to see a man in black suit sleeping on the small patient chair beside her. When she looked down at her hand, she found out he entwined it with his. She thought she could slip out of his hand without waking him, but was disappointed when his eyes flew open the very next second. "You're up." He said sleepily, tightening his grip on her palm again. "How are you feeling?" Queenie nodded and tried to sit up, but was pushed back onto her seat by Pierce. "You just woke up. The doctor said it's advisable for you to stay in bed until you're strong enough." The man hissed. Despite his words, she still protested. "I was told to come to Glamour Entertainment today. What impression would I leave if I don't make it there today? They might say I'm abusing the little privilege I have." Pierce chuckled softly and pushed her back onto the bed again. "I don't think that's necessary again." "Huh? Why? Have I been laid off?" She gasped. Pierce shook hi
