When Pierce got home that day, he learnt from the maidservants Queenie had gone to sleep. So as quietly as he could, he slipped into the room, into the bathroom, had his bath and quietly climbed onto the bed.
Before he slept, he contemplated on whether to hug her to sleep or not to. With a sigh, he turned to the other side and slept off.
Next Morning
When Queenie woke up, Pierce was long gone. She rubbed her head nervously wondering if her words had upsetted him so much.
She heard a knock on the door and got off the bed to answer it.
"Good morning, Mrs. Verlice."
"Good morning, Mrs. Verlice."
The two maids who were outside the door greeted, lowering their heads as they spoke.
Queenie was first startled by their behavior before she realized she was no longer in Velon's house where the servants treated her like trash.
She smiled at them and said. "Morning. What do you two want?"
The two maidservants consisted of two teenage looking girls who didn't seem to be more than 18. One had brown hair, while the other was blonde.
The blonde was the first to respond. "Sorry for bothering you ma'am, but we received instructions to help you take your bath."
Hearing her, Queenie's face flushed in embarrassment. "There's no need to. You can return to your other work."
The two girls glanced at each other and then at Queenie. This time, it was the one with the brown hair who spoke.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Verlice, but that was the instruction passed directly by Mr. Verlice. Disobeying is equivalent to getting ourselves fired."
"So you think it's better to help me without my approval?" Queenie asked, narrowing her eyes slightly.
The oppressive aura which she had always tried to hide, suddenly burst forth, startling the two girls.
Seeing the effect she had on them, she waved her hand as she dismissed them. "Go back. I'll explain to him when he's back."
Then she slammed the door shut!
She stood at the same spot as some unpleasant memories harassed her thoughts. She walked back to the bed and stared into space.
A shrill sound broke into her thoughts seconds later and she hurriedly glanced around, in search of the source.
Her eyes soon landed on the table beside the bed. She got up and ripped the post-it note which was attached to a pack of a phone.
'Queenie Knight, let me be your fortress.'
Brief and simple? With a furrowed brow, she turned the back of the note hoping they'd be something there.
However, she was disappointed when she saw nothing. "I did hear he was a man of few words, so what was I expecting?"
Almost immediately, the sound which she had heard earlier, sounded again. Apprehensively, she looked down on the surface where she had torn off the post-it note to see a brand new device.
It was an unknown number and the brand of the phone made her glance around the room.
'Had Pierce forgotten one of his devices?' as she thought of that, she glanced around the room again and even proceeded to call out his name.
"Pierce! Pierce!"
When she got no answer, she lifted the phone to see a paper under it. After reading it, she swiped the answer icon and placed it on her ears.
"Hello, I'm speaking with Queenie Knight?" A familiar voice asked.
Queenie paused and glanced at the string of numbers again. It did look familiar, but she couldn't remember where she had seen them before.
"Yes, you're speaking with her."
"You bastard! You dared to cut off ties with me after your marriage with that animal!" Series of abuses were hurled out from the phone next.
Queenie frowned slightly and took the phone away from her ears. After the raging woman on the other end, who she assumed had gotten the wrong 'Queenie Knight' became calm, she said.
"I think you have gotten the wrong Queenie Knight. I don't..."
She was brashly cut off by the lady on the other end. "If you dare hang up on me, Queenie, I'll find you and I'll skin you."
At this point, the woman's threats and abusive words had gotten to Queenie who scoffed and was about to retort when she heard the lady introduce herself. "They call me Jessica Bayne."
Queenie's eyes widened in shock. "Jessica Bayne, my... Best friend?"
Jessica stayed silent for a while before saying. "No, your ex-best friend. You see, I am so pissed off with you. Not only did you lie to me about who you're marrying or your plan to elope with him, you also cut me out of your goddamn life! What happened to the 'Forever as Best Friends?'"
"Jessica, I am very sorry about what happened back then. I accept, I was stupid and all that. But now I can assure you that I've come back to my senses and I'm ready to make things right."
Queenie was nervous after two minutes went by without a word from Jessica.
"Ok, how about we meet at Hot Bakery?" Queenie asked.
"Okay, sure."
Immediately after Jessica hung up, another call entered. This time, it was a number which was recognised by the phone.
'Glamour Entertainment'
Queenie had heard of them before. She had even begged Velon to register her there before, but the man had refused saying the entertainment world was messy.
"Hello, good morning. Am I speaking with Queenie Knight?" A female perfunctory voice asked from the other end.
"Yes, I am. How may I be of assistance to you?"
"Glamour Entertainment is interested in grooming you. If you're interested in being one of our actresses, you should come to Glamour Entertainment in order to sign your agreement." The perfunctory woman said again.
It only took Queenie two seconds to accept the offer. "Sure, I will be there."
After the person from Glamour Entertainment hung up, Queenie scurried to her wardrobe in search of something to wear.
Queenie decided to go first meet Jessica before going to Glamour Entertainment. When she got outside, she met a man putting on a suit, patiently standing beside a black Bentley. When he saw Queenie, he walked up to her and bowed down a little. "Good morning, Mrs. Verlice. My name is Vincent and I was tasked to take you anywhere you wish to go. In other words, I'm your assigned driver." Queenie looked back at the car and nodded, but she had a complaint to make. "Why does it have to be such an eye-catching model?" Vincent glanced back at the car and grimaced. "Mr. Verlice knew you'd say such, which was why he gave this Bentley. It is, in fact, the lowest model in his garage." Queenie clicked her tongue. "Rich people sure know how to spend money. I'm going to meet a friend in a café." "Okay, ma'am." Said Vincent as he walked back to the car and pulled the door open. "Please." It had been a long time since she was treated in such a respectful way and as such, her cheeks burned
Finn looked towards Queenie and his expression became cold. Truth be told, he didn't really care about Queenie as she was just a used cargo. Although Velon had married her quietly, people like him had still heard the news. When he divorced her, he still heard the news. As expected, he didn't hold any respect towards her. "I'm sorry, Ms. Knight, but because you disturbed the peace of my café, I have no choice than to ask you to apologize to Mrs. Aspen and leave." It took everything in Jessica not to intervene prior to the stern eyes coming from Queenie. Vincent on the other hand couldn't bite down the disrespect and intended to teach Finn a lesson or two, but was held back by Queenie. She smiled and confidently assured him. "It's okay. I can handle this." Then she stepped forward. "Mr. Lei, I was told you were upright and just. I just don't understand why you'll choose to listen to one side and totally neglect the other. It doesn't seem just in my eyes. Instead, it looks as thoug
Queenie stuck her head outside the car's window to see smoke coming up from a place that looked familiar. "I would have suggested that it was a firework, but we both know that isn't." Queenie said, retreating her head. "I have no idea where it is you're going." Jessica gave a small smile. "Rest assured, you'll love it. It'd also bring back some old, cherished memories." Jessica's words made her a little upset, but she said nothing. Long ago, they were best friends. Then she fell in love with the low life scumbag, Velon, and her life became ruined. He literally blocked her access to the outside world, made her life unbearable, beat her and blamed her for her inability to bear a child. Thinking of her child, she held her still flat stomach slightly. Jessica glanced at her stomach briefly before focusing back on the road. "How's the baby?" "The baby is... Wait, how do you know I'm pregnant?" Queenie quickly realized and asked. "How did I get your number?" Jessica retorted,
"What's happening here?" Kira asked as soon as she arrived at the reception. When she saw Queenie and recalled the picture Andrew had shown her, her lips quavered. Almost immediately, another lady in corporate wear. When she saw the situation, her gaze faltered. However, the other receptionist who had embarrassed Queenie disregarded the conflicted look in that receptionist's eyes and went on to complain to Kira. "Kira, this lady suddenly showed up and claimed she was phoned by you to come sign an endorsement contract. However, knowing she was lying, I tried to drive her away as politely as possible, but she was so bitter that she lashed out at me." Everyone around concurred with her. Kira on the other hand could only sigh. Regardless of Queenie's rudeness, the truth was, they were in big trouble for their words towards her. "Everyone return back to your previous places. Indeed, I was the one who called her under the direction of the President." She said with a straight face as s
The contract signing only took five minutes before she was done. She stood in front of Andrew lazily. "Would you prefer to get your personal assistant and assistant or should the company assign one to you?" He asked. Queenie wanted to reject it until someone flashed past her mind. Jessica Bayne. When she pulled out her phone and called the lady who was trying to sleep in the room they reserved. "Do you think so lowly of me, Queenie?" No doubt, Jessica was upset. Queenie breathed out softly and replied. "It's just an offer. You can choose to reject it. Not like I care." She was about to hang up when Jessica huffed. "Fine, I'll do it!" She pocketed her phone and looked up at Andrew. "I already have the issue about the personal assistant sorted out. The company can assign me a manager." Andrew nodded. "I'll get her to contact you tomorrow. She'd also give you a schedule of your activities when you return here tomorrow." Queenie nodded and walked out of the conference room. When
When Queenie's eyes opened, she was surprised to see a man in black suit sleeping on the small patient chair beside her. When she looked down at her hand, she found out he entwined it with his. She thought she could slip out of his hand without waking him, but was disappointed when his eyes flew open the very next second. "You're up." He said sleepily, tightening his grip on her palm again. "How are you feeling?" Queenie nodded and tried to sit up, but was pushed back onto her seat by Pierce. "You just woke up. The doctor said it's advisable for you to stay in bed until you're strong enough." The man hissed. Despite his words, she still protested. "I was told to come to Glamour Entertainment today. What impression would I leave if I don't make it there today? They might say I'm abusing the little privilege I have." Pierce chuckled softly and pushed her back onto the bed again. "I don't think that's necessary again." "Huh? Why? Have I been laid off?" She gasped. Pierce shook hi
Jessica left fully knowing she had poked a sour nerve in the girl. However, she bumped into someone she didn't expect to see so soon in the elevator. By the time she realized, it was already too late to leave. "Still the trouble making Jessica. I'm kinda surprised, for you to be a personal assistant, the person must be of a higher caliber, not so?" Liam Verlice, a handsome devil and one Jessica had been running from for a year. He had trapped her in an elevator, leaving her to his mercy. "Stay away from me, Liam." She retorted with a scoff and turned to the side. "I will after you tell me why you've been running away from me..." ... Queenie got home that afternoon on her own. She had to persuade the man to go to work that she was going to be fine. After minutes of persuasion, the man accepted and left. But not without assigning three of his best men with her. One which was Wensley, Gray and Vincent. Vincent took the wheel as usual. Recalling something, she asked him.
As Queenie stared at the three women all dressed casually, she couldn't believe her eyes. "What did you two say you're doing here?" She finally asked. However, the two women were smiling sheepishly. Only when Alicia poked them did they snap out of their thoughts. Regardless of her help, that didn't stop them from turning to glare at her. "Roxanne Nexter and Audrey Hepburn, to what do I owe this great visit?" Queenie asked again, this time, her eyes fluctuated between the two brow heads. Audrey, who had a frickle and was fond of putting on a serious countenance, spoke first. "It was just so unfair Jessica had to be the one to attend to you. I mean what does she know?" Now, that didn't go well with Jessica who was seated right beside Queenie. Before she could retaliate, the phone in Queenie's hand rang. Taking a look at it, she noticed it was from her manager, Anna. "Hello?" She spoke as soon as she answered the phone. "Do you realize you have a movie to shoot?" The harsh tone
