CHAPTER TWO

*SIENNA*

I kept running without looking back.

If he came after me, I knew I wouldn’t stand a chance against him… but I still refused to let him catch me.

When I finally looked back, I saw he wasn’t chasing me.

I slowed my pace and walked quickly out of the hotel. My hand went to my chest as I tried to steady my breathing.

I whispered to myself.

Everything will be okay.

I messed up by getting drunk and ending up sleeping with a stranger…

It is horrible, yet this is not the end of life.

And the most reassuring of all was that I will never see him again.

As soon as I got home, I made a quick breakfast and then went straight to work.

Just as I reached the entrance of the building, my phone rang.

I smiled when I saw it was my mom.

I answered slowly. “Hello, Mom.

"Sweetheart, don’t tell me you forgot. Tonight is your Uncle Darlington’s 70th birthday. The party is at Sheratons Hotel. You are coming, right?”

“No, Mom. I really don’t feel like going.”

If I showed up at that party, I’d have to face my father and that woman he calls a wife and I really wasn't in the mood to deal with them tonight.

“Sienna, sweetheart… you know how much your Uncle Darlington and his wife have done for us.The least you can do is go and honor him," my mother said softly.

I sighed

My father cheated on my mother and abandoned us, at a tender age of six years old as though we were nothing. Uncle Darlington is the only reason why I survived those dark days. Had it not been him, my childhood would have been a miserable affair.

It's okay, I will go

Don't fight with your father, she signed.

“As long as he doesn’t start anything, I won’t either,” I muttered before ending the call.

I remembered years ago how my mother used to fall on her knees pleading with my father against the divorce.

She told him she would forgive his betrayal and forgive the other woman too… but he still threw her away. He didn’t just divorce my mother, he stripped her of everything and left her with nothing but me.

Ever since then, life has become unbearably hard for us.

I'II never forgive my dad .

I got to the company just in time and sat at my workstation . My coworker Clara Marlowe

came over to me.

"You look unusual today, Sienna?"

I scowled. “Unusual? How?”

"You’ve been down since Damian left you, but today… you actually don’t look sad.

Clara and I are best of friends.

I let out a sigh. Maybe it's because I experienced a wild night. You won't believe it... Just to ease my aching heart, I paid a prostitute four hundred dollars.

You don't say," she laughed.

She really believes I'm kidding.

We joke around a lot, so I’m not surprised. A few people even think we’re experienced with men but in reality… we’re as conservative as can be.

That's why I’m still so mad about what happened last night.

That was totally not me .

"The new manager starts today," she announced. I lifted my shoulders, not really caring.

"I heard he’s the heir to Hudson Group. His dad’s a top government official, and his mom runs things at the company’s headquarters. Honestly… most of the women here are itching to meet him. I bet he’s really handsome.”

I sighed and rolled my eyes.

I just hope he’s not one of those arrogant, pompous heirs.

I can’t bear having a rude boss like that.

My boss, Daniel Bason, approached me.

We are having a meeting in the conference hall. Now," he ordered, then turned and walked away.

I quickly grabbed my notebook and pen and hurried after him.

I walked into the conference hall and saw that everyone was already seated, so I slipped into a corner seat quietly.

My mind wandered back to the early hours of the morning, and all I could see was his face God, he was handsome.

That furious look on his face came back to me. I rubbed my eyes with my thumbs, shut them tight, then opened again but no, it was still him.

It was the man I’d spent that one night with!

The same man I had paid four hundred dollars!

Aaah my Gosh!

How could I escape this time ?
