It was like all sound faded for a few seconds as I stood with the colorless phone in my hand. My heartbeat was loud; louder than possible. My wolf whined due to the overwhelming wave of shock, disbelief, and pain that I felt.

“No.” My voice was breathy and broke a bit.

Zayn was standing next to me and from the pale look on his face, I could tell that he had heard what the detective had said about Alex. He tried to touch me as a way to comfort me but I flinched away.

I did not want to be comforted. I wanted Alex to be alright. I wanted Liam to have his dad for Christmas. I did not want Liam to be an orphan. Alex was now like family, I did not want to lose him.

“Hello? Lara, are you still on the phone?” I heard the detective. “Hello?”

“Yeah,” I replied numbly, and then swallowed. “Is—is Alex okay? Is he alive?” I choked the words out. I waited with bated breath for a reply from her. I felt that fluttery nervous stomach feeling and my palms were already sweaty.

    It was Christmas day, the 25th of December. Werewolves were howling in celebration even though it was the sun that was up. Carols were being played and families were together. The air was warm, the sky was crystal blue, and the day was perfect. Where did the Werewolf Territory take the concept of Christmas when we believed in the Moon goddess? We adopted it thousands of years ago when humans once lived amongst us. They celebrated our holidays and so we did the same, as a show of respect.     First of all, thank you all for reading and following this intriguing journey of Lara. I truly appreciate you all. I too, have fallen in love with this story and would have loved to write it forever but sadly, every good thing comes to an end eventually. The bonus chapters would soon be exhausted.
