“Don’t look at me like that,” Maggie said, staring defiantly into Carl’s eyes before turning to Asher with a wilting glance that ordinarily would have made him back down but he stared right back, towering over her with a dark glare.

“How could you let her escape?!” He demanded.

“Escape? She’s not an animal, Asher, she’s a person, a wolf, an adult responsible for herself but that didn't stop you boys from locking her up in that room for days!”

“She was fine.”

“She was going crazy! I had to help her.”

Asher drove his fingers into his hair and looked at Carl to see him eyeing Maggie with so much anger. As much as he was angry with her right now, he couldn’t leave her alone with Carl to go bring Cathy back. Carl would fight Maggie.

Maggie had had enough of their argument. She threw her hands in the air and went to grab a bottle of wine. “You would think Cathy was a teenager the way you boys are acting. She only went back to work for crying out loud.”
