LIA'S POV

"Hey! Give me your money! Pull out the money!" I saw two men dressed in black pull knives out of their pockets and point them at a guy.

I watched them from behind the alley wall, unsure of what to do.

"I don't have any money. I really don't!" The guy replied, calculatively watching their hands.

"Hey! Don't try to be a hero, or else!" One of them warned, brandishing his knife in front of his face.

"We weren't born yesterday, that watch costs a ton. Pull out the money, dumb ass!"

The guy moved quick, towering over the two men in height, he grabbed one's hand and elbowed him in the face, while the other one swung his knife, slicing through the air near the guy's face, but he raised his hand to block and the knife cut his palm instead.

Suddenly the sound of sirens blared through the air and the two muggers scrambled and ran away.

I appeared from the dark, flagging up my phone from where the siren sounds blared, as I rushed to the guy's aid.

"Are you okay?" I asked him.

It was just luck that I was around that neighborhood at that time. I knew the place all too well, and how rough it could get for elites.

"Yeah, you saved me. Thank you." He smiled at me.

As soon as we walked into the light, his face came into view and so did mine.

I stared into the deepest blue eyes I had ever seen that night, and my heart thumped away carelessly. And then it hit me. I let out a gasp despite myself.

"What? Are they back?" The guy panicked, looking around.

"No, you're...you're Elian Dunst." I muttered stupidly, in a low voice.

He snorted out a laugh, at my incredulity.

"Last time i checked" he replied coolly, sweeping back his sweaty blonde hair from hovering over his forehead, almost ignoring his injured hand, like it was a habit.

That night should have been our last encounter had I been any wiser, but fate had other plans.

"Get over here, baldie!" The high school bully, Rachel and her minions grabbed me and slammed me against a random locker door one afternoon at school.

"You reported us to the P.E teacher, didn't you?" Rachel spat in my face, and I winced.

"You must have grown an extra tail or something...or was it, hair?"

They all laughed as Rachel pulled the dark blonde wig off my head, revealing my baldness.

Tears lingered in my eyes, as the students in the hallway erupted with laughter and finger pointing.

With the number of phones that were raised up at me, I was certain I would trend for months.

"Oh lookie here, it's santa Claus without hair!!!" Rachel joked and the students howled with laughter. The tears I tried to hide, flowed in torrents. I was sick of being bullied, but i was also small and weak, and poor...with alopecia.

"People like you should crawl into holes and just die!!" Rachel spat and slammed me into the locker again.

"And people like you deserve to be crushed under a moving van."

The voice that spoke sounded bored and angry at the same time.

Suddenly, the hall went quiet and everyone reduced their voices into hushes.

It was Kingston High's golden boy, standing there, in his gym shorts and white t-shirt with a towel over his neck, sweat trickled down his side buns, glistening on his skin like oil.

I thought I would die from embarrassment in that moment. I prayed with everything that the floor would open up and swallow me - but it didn't.

Elian Dunst cocked an eyebrow at Rachel, waiting for her to release me...and she did, with a thud.

"What are you going to do now, Elian Dunst? Report me to the school principal? My mother literally owns this school." Rachel boasted.

"No, i would beat you up right here, and then, make sure you get arrested for assaulting another student. You might get out, but you will never forget the stench of jail time on your skin."

"Your choice."

My mouth fell open in surprise and so did that of everyone present.

Elian Dunst was threatening to beat up a girl for a lower class? That was unheard of.

I shielded my face from everything, listening as Rachel's feet shuffled uneasily, before she made the difficult decision of walking away with shame.

The other students dispersed as quickly as they had gathered, and before he approached me, I overheard Elian tell one of his friends to make sure all the videos were deleted.

God, could he be anymore perfect? I thought to myself.

At the sound of his feet approaching me, I panicked and got up to run, but he grabbed my hand.

"Stop. Here." He handed my wig to me and helped me put it on.

"There, you look..." Elian paused, he reached up to touch a cut on the side of my neck, and I winced in pain, before noticing there was another on my palm.

I stole a glance at him and caught his jaw flex. He was mad. On my behalf?

My heart hammered excitedly as though it would burst out of my chest any minute, was this what being in love felt like? I thought.

"Come on," he pulled my uninjured hand.

I resisted, and looked up at him.

"Where to?" I asked in a shy voice.

"School's over anyways, let's go to my house, it's close by. We'll get your wound fixed up, our maid is really good with things like that." He said and pulled me along before I could protest further.

My eyes flared wide at the luxurious mansion that was the Dunst family house. I had lived in Garden city, Long Island all my life, but I had never been to any house that luxurious on the Island.

They had their own overview of the sea, a yacht just sat there and you could see it while driving towards the house on the hilly road.

Plush gardens, wrot iron gates flanking gem stones. The house was made for stars. Elian chuckled at my amazement, and it made me flush with embarrassment.

"This is your house?" I gaped.

"Yes, but my parents aren't home right now. They are almost never around. Anyway, like i said, our maid will fix you up."

The absence of his parents was more than comforting news for me, and a knot i didn't know had formed the minute we drove through the gates, loosened in my stomach.

However, what shocked me more than the luxurious house and the cars, and the yacht and the gemstoned gate, was the maid herself whom we met upon entering the house.

"Lia?" A stunned middle aged woman called, with eyes widened in complete shock.

"Mom!" I froze.

  • A LITTLE TOO LATE, OR IS IT?   GETTING A MAKEOVER

LIA'S POV "Here, this should be everything you need. I'll take turns checking the baby. The rent already expired, so, if you need anything, anything at all, remember, you have a home with us." Grace said to me, as she helped me pack my bags. It was finally discharge day, Mr. Judas-Caine had been visiting from time to time, but most times, he'd just sit at the waiting area for forty minutes and then leave without saying a word to me. He seemed like such an odd guy. "Hey, are you alright?" Grace asked, when she noticed i was staring too hard into space. I shook my head and nodded. "Yeah, i was just thinking about ---" A knock on the door cut me short. Grace opened the door and a young woman, average height, light skinned, porcelain almost, asian looking, and very beautiful, walked into the room. She was dressed in a classic pair of blue jeans, with a striped lurex sweater, and double breasted cream blazer. She looked gorgeous. "Hi, my name is Amika and i am Mr. Judas-Caine's a

  • A LITTLE TOO LATE, OR IS IT?   A MEETING

Judas-Caine's POV We arrived just outside the company building and the nostalgia i tried to hold back hit me rather hard. Taking in one breath at a time, i shut my eyes to the shaking feeling and looked up to find Antonio staring at me. "You don't have to do this if you don't want to do it. We can always come back when you're ready." He said to me. I sighed and shook my head, "No, it's been eight months, the company is drowning. If we waste anymore time, we would not be able to pull it out." Antonio let out a deep sigh and nodded. I had always kept my composure, even when i felt like dying. I was probably the toughest person people knew. It was easier to act like the world wasn't happening to you and you were the most emotionless person in the room, than to let a bunch of people swarm you with their understanding of how you felt. And so, i reached into my pocket, tossed a pill in my mouth, washed it down with water and stepped down. Two other bodyguards, Effy and Stone met me

  • A LITTLE TOO LATE, OR IS IT?   INEXPLICABLE PAIN

Judas-Caine's POVI sat still in the waiting area, staring intensely at the floor, a sarcastic smirk crossed my lips.I even ignored the blood dripping to the floor, and the annoying sting i felt in my right palm."Boss, we need to get a nurse to check your wounds again." My bodyguard, Antonio muttered."Oh..." i stared at my hand, as if oblivious to its presence."Sure." I nodded. It took a short amount of time, but a tiny thing of a nurse came and worked on the injury again."This should hold for some time," she smiled at me, making sure to flash her seductive boobs at me.I was never the simping type, but i had a thing for boobs, yet, over the last couple of months, it did not matter what size they came in, i was not interested. She held my hand a little longer than necessary, and so, i pulled it away. I didn't like being touched."Do you want me to give you a shhh-shot of painkillers?" She eyed me, acting shy but obviously being boldly flirtatious."No. I enjoy the pain -- it rem

  • A LITTLE TOO LATE, OR IS IT?   ARE YOU SURE?

LIA'S POV"I'm sorry, but, your baby has neonatal respiratory distress -- meaning his lungs are underdeveloped and has to be given an emergency surfactant now.""But why? How is that even possible?" I panicked."Apparently, you didn't take enough nutrients during your prenatal stage and your baby survived primarily on water. It is not uncommon with struggling mothers but it is dangerous for the baby." The doctor explained sympathetically. "Will he be alright?" I asked, unable to hold back the tears anymore and they fell. I had lost so much already and could not stand to lose my baby too.Even though, a silent part of me wondered if losing him would be the worse thing yet. It reminded me of all the times i toyed with the idea of jumping in front of a speeding car just so i would lose the pregnancy. Was i such a horrible person? Was this the universe paying me back for all my stupid wishes and efforts? I was hyperventilating now, trying my best to keep my heart steady."Yes, he will be

  • A LITTLE TOO LATE, OR IS IT?   A STRANGE PROPOSAL

LIA'S POV "Get her in the car!" I barely even had time to look up as the man quickly ordered his guards to help me into his car. I clawed the strange man's palm deeply with my nails, as my contractions came in concurrent waves, but instead of complaining, he quietly let me. I was delivered of my baby successfully, and when i was finally placed in a room, I requested that the doctor let me see him. "Are you sure? You know you need to rest." The doctor chided gently. "I'm sure," i replied and the doctor nodded. The door to my hospital room opened, even though I was weak, I was curious to see the asshole who had almost killed me. He was tall, dark brown hair, near symmetrically shaped face that had rough stubbles along his strong, defined jawlines, perfectly arched brows, a half angled nose that had probably been used to being broken and reset due to violence. From his posture, I could tell he was well ripped. His broad shoulders carried the suit he wore perfectly, an

  • A LITTLE TOO LATE, OR IS IT?   STARTING OVER

LIA'S POV "The Bon Aires VIP Charter flight carrying twenty Long Island business elites, including six politicians and a former US Air Marshall has crashed." Life had thrown dust in my face for the one hundredth time and this time, it had taken everything from me. "It is with a broken heart that we commit the souls of these two loving people to the heavens. May their souls rest in perfect peace." The hot summer sun burnt onto my skin as tears rolled down my face. My parents were gone. The news of the crash had sent my mother into immediate shock and that was it. I stared with stranger's eyes at the whole procession, nothing seemed to make sense to me, not even the people who showed up to the funeral. I could barely recognise anyone, other than the reverend and the nurse who had been my mother's friend. But what hurt me most was the Dunst family, and this time, I was furious. A couple of days after the funeral, no word had come from them, not even a single condolence me
