Chapter 4 Interview

I wondered how he became his uncle when they had different last names. But whatever their story is, it’s their story, not mine.

I have a lot on my plate right now, and I don’t have the time to find out the difference in their last names.

“What were you thinking?”

I jumped in shock when I didn’t realize he was already in front of me.

“W-when did you get here?” I stuttered.

My eyes leveled at his chest, so I needed to look at him as he was taller than me.

“So you are my nephew’s girlfriend,” he stated.

I gulped. I wanted to speak, but no words came out of my mouth.

“Did he know about what happened to us? Did he know you cheated on him?” He whispered in my ears, which gave chills down my spine.

I clenched my fist. Did I cheat on Mico? I scoffed at that thought. Isn’t he the one who cheated on me and not the other way around? But of course, this man didn’t know everything that had happened to us. And it was easy for them to judge people without knowing what happened.

He turned to go back to his table. And here I am, staring at his back without saying a word.

“Did he know how cheap you are?” I was shocked by his words.

“Excuse me?!” I looked at him in disbelief.

CHEAP?! I scoffed at his words. That’s absurd. Yes, maybe I made a mistake because I let the stranger take my virginity. And that’s the most shameful thing that ever happened to me.

“If I had known you would insult me like this… And if I had known this would happen, I would not come here. I never thought our paths would cross again. And just so you know, Mr. Reed, that’s the most regretful day of my life. If I could turn back in time, I would never sleep with a stranger like you. And for your information, I never slept with a man before, even Mico. Everything was first to me, even the kiss.”

It felt like all of my insides were shaking—the nerve of this guy. I snorted. He may be handsome, but he’s rude.

I turned to face the door. All I wanted to do was to leave this place because I couldn’t take this man’s rudeness.

“Where are you going?” I heard him stand up.

I turned to look at him sideways. “Leaving,” I said before walking out the door.

I headed to the elevator and pressed the DOWN button. TING! The elevator door opened. I pressed the GROUND floor button when I got inside the elevator and closed the elevator door. But before it closes, a firm hand stopped it from closing. I gasped when it was Mr. Reed who stopped by the elevator. His blazing eyes met mine. And in one swift move, he was already in front of me, pinning me in the corner of the elevator. My heart beats so fast as if it would have got out of the ribcage.

Why did this man make my heart race in an instant? I never had this feeling before in other guys.

He brought our faces even closer that I almost squinted, and our lips were only an inch apart. I also smelled his minty breath. What should I do now?

I could see him gritting his teeth, and his brows frowned. Was he mad?

“Do you think I will let this slide? You are nothing but a lowly woman who cheated on my nephew. You don’t deserve his love.”

Oh, is that so? In his eyes and belief, I am the bad one. Because they don’t know that it was his nephew who cheated first and not me. This man can easily judge me because they don’t know the truth.

“Why don’t you ask your beloved nephew to break up with me?” I struggled from his grip. He was so strong that I winced in pain from his grasp.

His eyes were blazing with anger. “You don’t have the right to order me. You don’t know what I’m capable of.”His voice was dangerous, and it gave me chills.

“L-let me go.” My knees are shaking, and I’m starting to feel fear and apprehension at his sharp gaze as if he could eat me whole.

“I’m warning you, Miss Smith. If you want a peaceful life, break up with my nephew. You don’t deserve him,” he said before he let my arm go.

I tried to speak as I wanted to defend myself, but no words came out of my mouth. And I could still feel the pain he did to my arm. I thought he was going to break my bone with his hand. Damn!

I sighed in relief when the elevator door opened. He fixed his suit and went out of the elevator as if nothing had happened. I held onto the rails and took deep breaths before I went out of the elevator.

“Aurora!” a familiar voice called my name.

I turned to see Mico, with his best friend, Lucas, waiting for me in the lobby. I rolled my eyes at Lucas. The audacity of this guy to see me here. Doesn’t he have a conscience after betraying me? I am not mad or against third-gender identity, but I trusted him. I trusted them. I never thought these two would betray me and hurt me like this.

“How’s the interview?” Mico asked, which brought me back to my senses from killing Lucas in my mind.

“I think I just have to find a different job. But thank you for your help. And I hope this will be our last encounter. Thank you for the happy memories we shared over the past years. Don’t worry, I will tell your mother about our breakup. I just don’t want to get involved with your family.”

“I am really sorry, babe,” Mico sincerely apologized. “But are you sure you don’t need my help to find you a job?” he asked.

“Yes. I think I can find a job on my own.”

We bid goodbyes before I called for a cab.

When I arrived at my house, my eyes widened in horror when I noticed my apartment door opened. I hurriedly got inside my apartment only to see my room had been ransacked! Who on earth would do this to me? The house was a mess. My clothes were on the floor. The sheet of my bed was torn as if it had been stabbed with a knife and it was ragged.

My hand was shaking with fear when I saw red ink on my vanity mirror. And that red stain gradually dissolves as if it were blood used to write on the mirror.

My chest gradually tightened in fear when I read what was written in the mirror.

‘I will kill you.’
