Heading back to my suite, I take a breath when I reach the door; bracing myself. I push it open and sitting on the half circular sofa while watching something on the TV is my animai, looking clean and handsome as ever. The delicious combination of his caramel scent and the smell of food wafting in the air have me salivating, and I’m not sure which one I’m hungrier for.
“I know which one I want more,” Zara says while licking her chops. I just roll my eyes at her.
Marcus’ head turns to me as soon as I enter and the brightest smile spreads across his face. He’s up and over to me before I can even blink and has pulled me into his arms while spinning me around, his nose buried in my neck inhaling my scent. I giggle as I relish the incredible currents of delight that spread through me at his touch. A woman could get used to this.
“You’re back!” He exclaims while kissing my forehead as he sets me down.
I kick the door shut and grin up at him, “I pro
With our hands clasped we walk down the hall to my office as I link Vitali, Tyson, and Chris. It’s a good thing I love these guys so much or seeing them so often would get old really quick. I let us into my office and as soon as we step in I feel Marcus go stiff beside me. I look up to see a sad look on his face while his brows are pinched together. “Marcus? What’s wrong?” I gently ask moving closer while rubbing his hand, letting our bond soothe him, even if it’s not fully in place yet. “The first and last time I was in here I said some fucked up shit that nearly made me lose you forever. The memory just caught me off guard was all,” he says looking down with a sad smile. I give him a sympathetic look, “We can make new memories,” I reassure him. He nods and kisses the back of my hand and damn does it feel good. I walk around to my side of the desk, refusing to let go of his hand. “Where do you want me?” He asks. Such an innocent question, and yet it
The longer I’m around Amelia the more captivated by her I become. Every new thing I learn about her just makes me love her more. Did I just say 'love'? Yes, I did because I fucking do. I love this strong, sexy woman more than all the stars in the universe. Maybe it’s too soon to say that to her, I don’t know. I fell for her the moment I saw her but locked in a room with her for three days confirmed, she is all I could ever want or need. Sitting in on her meeting had me learning shit I never expected. I can’t believe Jasper at no point thought to tell me he can turn humans into wolves. I get why this isn’t public knowledge, but we’ve been like brothers since we were pups, so you’d think he’d have mentioned it at some point in the last twenty fucking years. I nearly sprinted down to the cells to pummel the guy who tried to lay a hand on my animai; he’s lucky he didn’t actually touch her and that I feel bad for what happened to him, otherwise he’d be cho
I make my way down the stairs and keep my eyes open hoping to find a few particular familiar faces. I wander around the packhouse until I end up in what looks like an entertainment room. It’s massive with a large black sectional with a black coffee table facing a large plasma screen TV on the left-hand wall. There are beanbag chairs, boxes with toys, an air hockey table, a pool table with a scoreboard on the right-hand wall next to a dartboard. Shelves that flank the door are filled with books and movies and there is are large sliding glass doors that make up the entire back wall. I see the people I’m looking for sitting on the couch laughing, so I walk over to them. “Hey, I hope I’m not interrupting,” I say while in fact interrupting them. Who I now know to be Evalyn looks up and gives me a wide smile, so I guess my balls are safe for now. “Marcus! Hi. Oh, this is Mei, Chris’s animai and my sister-in-law,” she says proudly making Mei blush. “And Eric who is Vitali’s
With Amelia’s friends off on a mission to help me organise the best first date I can, I go and sit on the front steps of the packhouse to wait for my truck to arrive. Thankfully with all the stuff that’s gone on so far today time is moving quickly, so I don’t have to wait long. I’m waiting for maybe twenty minutes when I can see the red exterior of my GMC Sierra 2500 in the distance. It’s good to have my baby back. I get up just as my truck pulls in with an SUV pulling in behind it. I walk over as Calix gets out of my truck and Aiden gets out of the SUV. Here it comes. “What are you knuckleheads doing here?” I ask with surprise as Calix comes in for a hug which I return. “As if you’d have trusted anyone else with your truck,” he snorts. “Good point,” I say as I pull Aiden in for a hug. “So she hasn’t kicked you out yet I see. You’re setting a new record,” Aiden teases. I ignore the prick’s comment, I can always deck him later. Pretty certain his daughter gets her attitude from him
"And you don’t know of any Alphas who would do such a thing?” I ask my dad while we sit on the couch in my office. He leans forward with his elbows resting on his knees and shakes his head, “Not a single one. It’s not common practice anymore and even under the best of circumstances most Alphas fear the repercussions from the Delegation,” he explains. “But as long as they act within the law they have nothing to worry about. The Delegation isn’t evil, and they aren’t dictators,” I say, feeling a little protective of the friends I have made. Not a single irshiust has a mean bone in their body, they weren’t made that way. But I wouldn’t call them pacifists either. They are trained and highly skilled warriors, stronger and faster than even a nagata. The only thing I know of that can rival them in strength and speed is a God. They have to know how to fight so they can carry out sentencing or stop wars. They are essentially the earthly representative of the Gods or at least Zarseti. But a
When I get to my suite I fling the door open, and my jaw drops to the floor at the sight before me. Standing in all his oh so handsome glory is Marcus, wearing a charcoal grey suit jacket with black lapels – he seems to like black lapels – a white dress shirt with the first three buttons undone giving me a perfect view of his defined pectoral muscles, which right now I very much would like to outline with my tongue. “If you don’t, I will. Hubba, hubba!” Zara pants in my head. He’s paired it with black slacks, black belt, and black loafers with a very expensive looking platinum wristwatch to boot. Gods take the wheel because my mouth has gone dry as a bone and my core is heating up as blood travels south fast. “You’re drooling,” he says with a smirk. “You look amazing,” I admit, and I can hear how breathy my voice sounds. Well, that’s embarrassing. He smiles as he walks over and cups my cheeks in his large hands; the contact sends an instant shock to the system, and I realise how m
It’s not too long before we’re approaching our destination and he’s parking against the curb in a side street. He gets out, zipping over to my side at lightning speed and opens my door for me. He holds out his hand and I don’t hesitate to take it, stepping down from the truck. He shuts and locks the car, but this time I wrap my arm around his before he even has a chance to offer. Marcus is looking down at me like a child who found Christmas just arrived early and I instinctively smile back up at him. It still amazes me how my emotions feed off of his – both positive and negative – even though we haven’t marked each other. Is it just us, or is it all animai? It’s just no one notices because most couples don’t hesitate to seal the bond. I’ll have to ask Chris since he held off longer than anyone I’ve ever known. We walk arm in arm around the corner and a few short steps before he’s opening the front doors of the establishment we’ve stopped in front of. We step in and I’m surprised by
We happily dive into our food, stealing glances at each other between bites and it makes me feel like a teenager being all silly with her crush. I never thought I was this person, but I rather like it. With things going better between us I feel myself opening up and relaxing around him more instead of being guarded.“There’s something I’ve been dying to ask you,” he says after taking another sip of his bourbon and coke.“Should I be scared?”“I don’t think so,” he chuckles, “I just can’t for the life of me figure out what Mei is,” he says making me freeze with my fork near my mouth. This makes me frown; I wasn’t expecting this question.“Is it that bad?” He asks with a worried tone.“No, it’s not that. It’s just not public knowledge, only a select few know what she is, and I’ve been doing my best to keep it that way. I wanted to make sure she was strong and able to protect herself before we let it be more public.”“Oh. I can understand that,” he concedes.I chew on the inside of my ch
