Chapter Five

Sloane's Pov

I woke up with a jolt and I looked around my surrounding. I inhaled and exhaled deeply, calming my frightened heart. I had just woken up from a terrifying nightmare which I hadn't had for a while now.

Reeling from the fear, I reached out for the light switch by the side of my bed and put it on.

As the light filled my massive room, my gaze scoured round as I searched for the unknown. Then I let out a relieved sigh because I found no one...

It's been two days since I met the vampire at the mortuary and since then, I've been feeling on edge and looking behind me in an unusual way.

And just today, I had a dream where I was being chased by him. He caught up with me in no time and showed off his fangs.

He was about to dig into my neck when I woke up from the nightmare.

I let out another deep sigh as I grabbed my phone and put it on. It was four in the morning and I knew I should go back to bed but I couldn't.

I was too frightened and I also felt anxious as I thought of the big day I had ahead of me.

Today, I was going to assume my position as the CEO of my dad's company and meet my employees for the first time.

I had even gone live on I*******m yesterday and told my fans all about my change in career so there was no turning back now. In as much as I hated doing this, I knew I had no choice but to. For my dad would make my life hell if I didn't obey him. And by the way, it was all temporary. Just until I found a boyfriend that my dad liked.

My manager, Hilda was supposed to pick me up by nine, this morning, so I had like five hours left.

I got up from my bed, wondering how I was going to pass the time as I sluggishly trudged to my bathroom.

I suddenly felt the hairs on the back of my neck rise and I felt my stomach churn anxiously. I began to look around my room as paranoia set in.

I didn't understand why I was feeling this way. I felt like someone was here with me and by that someone, I meant the vampire.

I lived alone in a properly guarded house so no one could break in that easily.

Why then did I feel unsafe in my own room?

I quickly rushed to my bathroom, turned on the faucet, fetched some water with my palms and poured it on my face.

I did it until I was satisfied then I looked into the mirror in my front.

"You're all alone!" I said to myself "You won't see the vampire again and you'll be fine!"

I said this continuously, to calm myself. Then I brushed my teeth, washed my face again and went back to sit on my bed.

Right now, I felt so many emotions buzz through me. I felt very frightened but all the same, I wanted to see the vampire again.

I had never been this indecisive in my life before.

How did vampires even exist among humans? Up till now, I still couldn't believe that I had seen a vampire. A creature I had only seen in movies. It felt surreal.

And to think I felt enchanted during the time I spent with him.

Unable to dampen my restlessness, I quickly went to my computer and turned it on.

I typed the word 'vampire' on the internet and found so many things. It was a mythical creature that lived by feeding on the vital essence of the living. Some sites said that vampires were humans who had resurrected from the dead.

There was a site that said a person could become a vampire when a cat jumped over the person's dead corpse. I also read that they were the authors of mischief, they don't reproduce and they die by getting pierced by sharp objects or by getting exposed to the sunlight.

An hour after I had gone through different sites, I was left in awe.

Vampires were myths but I saw one for real. One who didn't get burned by the sunlight and was otherworldly gorgeous.

I scratched my hair from the confusion of it all.

Deciding I was going to take my mind off everything that had to do with the mythical creature, I opted to working out till dawn.

I went to my mini gym situated on the ground floor of my house and I got on my treadmill and started it.

I was exhausted after a few hours of working out and I went to take a shower.

I got dressed afterwards and waited for Hilda who arrived at exactly forty minutes later.

Hilda was a single mum who had worked as my manager since I became a model in college. I kept her with me because I could trust her to do handle everything perfectly.

Gazing at her green, learned and questioning eyes, I replied;

"Yes, Hilda. I'm ready to resume office" I managed a small smile, even though my heart was doing a giddy dance of anxiety and anticipation.

*******************

After what felt like an hour later, I was at the large company. I got in through the entrance at the back to avoid the paparazzi and I used an elevator to take me to my office. I took note of the everything as I entered. It was very large, had well spaced cubicles and also well ventilated. The employees were few in number and they all stood in surprise, when they saw me. Some began to take pictures and it made me hope that something was going to be done about that. I didn't want anything concerning my work here to go viral. I followed my uncle Fred, who my dad had sent to make my work easier, into the CEO's office.

My new office was so large and fine. It had two cushions by the side and two navy blue office chairs. I could tell they were comfy by just looking at them. The office had been redesigned to meet my taste, because I knew my dad didn't like flowers on his office desk and the present colour of the wall.

Uncle Fred tapped lightly on the wall. "The wall is soundproof"

This was beyond amazing. I felt my raging nerves begin to calm down.

I went behind the table and made myself comfortable on the office chair.

My uncle handed me a document. "Scan through it" he said. I read the contents of the document. It was a contract which stated that my employees were not allowed to post anything concerning my life on social media or they were going to be sued and fired. I smiled after I was done reading. I liked it. At least, the scandals were going to reduce now that I was a CEO.

"I sent a message to the employees to wait for you in the meeting room" uncle Fred said. "There you'll have your first meeting with them. Let's go" and with that, I followed him to the meeting room which was next to my soundproof office.

The meeting room was also very spacious. I counted exactly twenty employees who sat around the huge, white and circular meeting table.

I cleared my throat as I stood to make a brief introduction.

"I am Slo--" My speech and breath paused halfway as my gaze landed on someone.

Sitting amongst the employees on the round meeting table was the vampire.

The mythical creature that haunted my thoughts and dreams.

"Sloane?" My uncle Fred signalled me to continue but I was too frozen to do so.

I felt everyone's gazes bore into my skin but my gaze was fixed solely on him.
