28. HOME SAFE
I woke up to a dimly lit room, again. I felt relaxed, perfectly recovered. I turned my head to my left side and found Ashton sleeping in the chair next to my bed, it really looked uncomfortable. I looked to my right side and found the room empty, except for Jack’s tab on the cyber-desk. I got up from the bed and walked to the desk. I took Jack’s tablet and tapped twice on the screen. Jack came around.
“Hey kid! You’re up”, he said.
His voice broke the quietness in the room. Ashton awoke with a start and quickly got to his feet. He got a head rush and quickly fell back on the chair. I got to him quickly with Jack still in my hand. I laughed at what had happened and kneeled next to his chair. I only realised then that I was in my pyjamas. Who could have put them on?
“You’re okay?” I asked.
He recovered and looked at me with tired eyes.
“Yeah, I’m good. Just got startled by Jack’s voice

Composure was the new gnome in our lives, since having Ashton back in our daily lives seemed to be the main cure that got everyone hyped up all over again. Even Mya and Brendan seemed to be over the moon with how things turned out, turns out they were tired of having a more 'brooding Lina' day in and day out. It certainly felt great to have some calm in our lives again, not having to think of what to do to keep yourself busy from thinking about depressing events in our lives.The dangerous life we had been scared of more than half a year ago seemed to be a distant memory now. Mya managed to gain conciousness as she was taken to one of the nurse rooms in the school. I explained she wasn't exposed to any fire or smoke, it was just shock that rendered her unconscious. So they took her for a check up in the nurse's office and let her rest. I explained what had happened to Ashton and that's how we found ourselves waiting for Jay and my dad after giving them a call about the incident. After processing all they were told, my friends took to this whole thing like a fish to water. They accepted my being without any restrictions, Ashton as well. Our friendship grew even stronger without any prohibitions in our lives. We were able to have a prosperous senior year, prepared ourselves accordingly for the final exams. Although we were on the peak of exams commencing, there was always a tradition of having our matric dance before the exams started. Matric dance is like prom dance for other countries, we called it differently because it only happened when we were in our senior year, matric class. We had so much fun on the dance, no conflicts whatsoever, even though some of our classmates got inebriated during the party. Tranquility. One scene that has always been a part of me for as long as I can remember. School days were the worst because I was required to be among people, normal people. He looked like he just stepped out of a male fashion catalogue. No wonder there were a lot of thoughts shouting towards him, especially from the girls. He really did look good, like Mya had said. Brendan seemed to be having an impatient aura around him. He really wanted to talk about the scene that happened on the previous day after we left school.
