Gore held the baby in one hand as he tried to get some work done, but it wasn't a simple task. Because with too much movement, she would start fussing until he rocked her to get her to calm.
From the first time he held the newborn, he could not put her down without her crying. She also refused to go to anyone else, so he had her the entire in his arms even when he was busy with his many tasks.
It was hard for him to multi task too, but he was holding his own.
The baby made a noise, then pouted in her sleep.
Gore was too caught up on how cute the baby looked, that he didn't realize anyone had entered his office until a small voice said.
"I heard that you have a baby. Can I play with it?"
Gore looked down at his niece. He didn't know how she got into his office because the door was locked. But she was there, reaching out to touch the baby.
"No Johan." He scolded.
The little girl made a sound before making doe eyes at him. "Please?"
Gore put a folder down before speaking to her again. "She is not a toy."
Johan leant her head to the left, her eyes sparkling as she did. "Please?"
Gore sighed. "She is not a doll, little monster. If I allow you to "play" with her, you might hurt her."
For some reason, he felt protective of the child, but at the same time, he wanted to get rid of her because she was holding him back from the things he had to do.
Johan thought about it for a minute, then nodded, but Gore knew she didn't fully understand. She is only four and would be back asking him to play with the baby.
"Alpha," his oldest sister Karina said, coming into the office to sit in a chair that was before his desk.
Johan climbed onto her lap, then tried to touch the baby again.
"Johan no, no." Karina pulled her daughter's hand back.
Johan looked just like her mother and the rest of the family. They all had the same down-turned shape: stormy grey eyes, honey coloured hair, thin pink lips, broad noses and freckles dotting across their diamond-shaped faces.
"Have you named her yet?" His sister asked.
Gore looked down at the baby. He never thought about finding a name for her before.
"No." He said shamelessly.
Karina laughed, "it's been two weeks and you still haven't named the baby."
"The name is not the problem. Not being able to put her down is, even if she is asleep, she would wake up crying."
Karina nodded, understanding his situation, because it was the same with Johan.
Alexis, their younger sister, had told Karina all about the baby, how she went to no one, and would cry if they got too close to her.
"Let me try." Karina placed Johan on the floor before taking the baby from Gore.
"Careful," he said, as she opened her eyes, pouted, looking ready to cry.
"Her eyes are so green," Karina marvelled.
"Can we keep her?" Johan asked.
Karina looked down at her daughter, who was on her tiptoes trying to touch the baby's head
"The baby is not a pet or a toy." She told her daughter.
Gore leant back in his chair. 'Finally,' he thought, popping his knuckles.
"She seems to like you," he smiled.
Karina looked over at her brother and winked. "Mother's touch."
He snorted. "The old lady never stood a chance of touching her. Well, you can keep her until we find a relative or something."
Karina chuckled at that. "Of course. Put me on baby duty."
Out of all his siblings, Gore was closest to Karina, not because she was his Beta, but because they had a special bond.
**As Harlow grew, and got closer to being a one-year-old, and could move around on her own, she still refused to let anyone except for Karina, Gore, or their mother, Gloria, to touch her."Come, little one." Karina said.
Harlow stretched up at her as she made little noises.
"Time to get some food in your tummy." Karina told her.
They had summized that Harlow might be a human child, but still couldn't figure out what those vampires had wanted with her parents.
Karina walked into the dining room with Harlow in hand and Johan hot on her heels.
Karina placed the baby in her high chair, where she start chewing on her toes, then the edge of her small table.
"Someone's hungry," Derek said, pinching her cheek.
Harlow gave a small laugh before going back to her toes.
"That's a first," said Derek, looking at her.
Karina went over to the baby, holding a dish with vegetables.
The energetic baby grabbed the dish, causing it to fall on her table.
She giggled, then start eating the green peas.
"Kids," Derek said, turning back to his food.
He had to keep pushing Johan away, because she kept reaching for his plate.
"You have your own food." Derek pulled his plate away.
Gore sat down with a sigh, looking at Harlow, then at Johan and Derek as they played at the table.
Harlow laughed at nothing, now hitting the table, causing the rest of her food to spill all over the floor.
She made cooing sounds, reaching for Gore's plate. She laughed when he gently pushed her tiny hands away, then tried to reach for it again.
"This is a man's food," Gore said, making funny faces.
Harlow grabbed onto his brown hair, pulling on it, then start chewing on his nose, making mumbling sound.
Gore pushed her away gently, wiping his face.
"Looks like somebody likes you," Derek said.
Gore said nothing while Harlow now chewed at her fingers, looking at nothing in particular.
"We leave shortly after this, those rogues are at again." Gore said.
Karina paused what she was doing.
"I think this time we should kill those rabid dogs. They are giving us a bad name with the neighbouring pack." She said.
Gore nodded.
Karina lift Harlow up from her chair, then helped Johan from around the table.
"What's it this time?" Derek asked, before stuffing food in his mouth.
"To rescue five female from those crazy mutts." Gore grunted.
But really, even though he gave nothing away. Gore was more than eager to go, hoping that he would find his mate among one of them.
"Goo," Harlow said, playing in Karina's hair, trying to put it in her mouth.
"No," Karina pulled her head away.
"Goo," Harlow said again, reaching for her face.
Karina kissed her on the cheek then, hand her to Gloria.
"She needs a bath, and we have to leave now."
Harlow splashed in the soapy water as Gloria bathe her. She had been on baby duty for a week now, and felt drained because both Johan and the baby were more than a handful."Little Harlow." Gloria poured water on her head. The baby pouted, then start to cry when the water ran down her face."Oh, sweet girl, you didn't like that?" Gloria lifted her out of the water to dry her off."There, there, baby, everything is ok.""Grandma," Johan held up a storybook. She was already dressed and ready for bed."Just a minute Jo," Gloria said, trying to get Harlow in a onesie because she felt unusually cold."Come now Jo," Gloria said.Johan ran to her room ahead of her grandmother, jumping on her bed. Before Gloria was even halfway through the book, Johan took it from her, saying that she wanted to read it by herself now.Gloria pursed her naturally pouty red lips before handing the book over to her granddaughter. As soon as she did, Harlow start crying.Gloria sighed, ran a hand to her almost gr
Gore circled his opponent with a sneer showing off his teeth, he hadn't even bother shifting into his wolf because he wanted to show everyone just how strong he was and why the Fates choose him to be Alpha. He wanted to show them that he will always be the Alpha. The man in his wolf form charged at Gore. But the Alpha easily grabbed him by the throat, then punched him in the head. The black wolf fell limp to the ground moments after.Gore looked around to see if anyone else was foolish enough to step up against him again."I am the Alpha of this pack. The next person that dares to challenge me will not make it out alive. I won't hesitate to rip you apart!" Gore roared.Nobody met Gore's eyes. They held their heads low, avoiding his stormy gaze.Smoothing his hair back from his face, Gore held his head high, then strode off for his home."That was the third challenge this week," his father said, the second Gore entered the house. It was like George was waiting for him, just standing th
The day Harlow turned fully one, was the day she start saying her first word, which was no."No," Harlow said, walking away from Gore as he tried to put on her clothes."Come now, little one," he walked after her.She laughed, trying to walk faster, "no, no."He grabbed Harlow to lift her in the air.Gore span her around, "yes, yes" he told her, "you have to get dressed."As he said it, Harlow start peeing on him."See what I mean," Gore held her off his body."No."Gore had a hard time trying to put her shirt over her head, because she kept turning away."No," she said.Gore finally got her dressed, then brought her downstairs for breakfast."No, no, no." Harlow shook her head on the way there."Come on, Harlow," Gore said as he tried to feed her cereal."No," she said, but open her mouth anyway."Hey Har, can I get some?" Derek asked, already knowing that the only answer was no, but he couldn't resist."No," the baby said. She smiled at Derek, having only finally warmed up to him, b
"What is it?" Karina asked, as everyone was now in the office. Gore ran a hand through his hair, then looked down at Harlow."Harlow, can you please show them what you showed me?" He asked softly. The baby only stared at him with green eyes full of innocence. "Please?" He begged. Karina opened her mouth to say something, then gasped when a scene played out in her mind. Derek, who stood beside her, was frowning. (In their heads, it showed the pack house in flames. Then the evil vampire King's face coming to the forefront, and the witch beside him.) Puzzled, Derek gazed at Harlow, then Gore. "The Vampire wants the witch back, but why?" "How does Harlow even know that?" Karina asked. "Either way, we should be on the alert. She is my mate. I am not willing to lose her to that madman." Gore told them. "The witch is your mate?" Alexis spoke up. She had a strong hate for witches, because one killed their other brother a few years back. "You know that we can't question the fates,
Selina lay back on the bed with a smile. ‘This is easier than I thought.'She rolled over on the bed, only to see Harlow staring at her."Come here, you little cutie," she reached out for the baby."Rrraw," Harlow let out, then disappeared from the room."Brat." Selina said with a smile, before laying back down to stare up at the ceiling.'These wolves won't know what hit them until it's too late.'Not long after, Selina got up to go take a shower. While she was allowing the hot water to burn her skin, Gore entered and waited for her to get done.He didn't expect her to be naked and dripping wet, but that was how she stood before him with a smile. His jaw dropped as his eyes explored her perfect body."Like what you see?" Selina stuck her chest out. That action caused Gore to growl out, but his eyes were fixed on the rising and fall of her breasts. She winked at him before turning her back. The moment she did, Gore went up behind her.At first, Selina shuddered and was about to pull a
Selina looked up with a smile, "just reading her a little bedtime story."Alexis frowned at the witch, "why are you reading a book like that to her, telling her that wolves are bad, and that vampires are good?"Selina just smiled on as she placed Harlow on the ground.“Wolves aren’t bad Harlow. Come, let me get you to bed.’’ Alexis picked the baby up, then looked her over for any injuries."It is the truth, young wolf. You worthless flea bags won't walk this earth or its dimensions much longer. Once we have this child, that's it for you, rabid creatures." Selena told her.“We? Who are you working with and why are you here?’’"Bat wot," Harlow said.“Sorry, did I say too much? Maybe I channelled someone else. It happens from time to time.’’ "I don't know what you are up to, but just know that I will rip your throat out." Alexis threatened.Selina walked over to Alexis with a smirk. "Do you think Gore will like the way you are talking to his mate?"Alexis growled at her before grabbing
The next morning, Alexis walked behind Gore as he head downstairs."Gore, stop being so damn stubborn and listen to me. Your mate is up to something, she was telling Harlow that w-"Gore's snarling cut her off."I know that you all hate witches, but she is my mate and just as how you all accepted Harlow, you should accept Selina as well because she isn't going anywhere soon."Alexis gaped at his words. No matter how hard she tried to tell Gore about what she heard Selina telling Harlow, he only snapped at her, dismissing what she had to say. He was only threatening to kill her if she got too close to Selina."Fine, but just you wait until shit hits the fan, because that bitch isn't what you think she is." Alexis snarled back at her brother before going to the kitchen for breakfast.Gore ignored her words because he didn't want to hurt his sister, even though deep down he knew that something was off as well. But he wanted to give Selina the benefit if the doubt, willing to wait for her
Gore spent nearly a week trying to get Selina's attention, but she seemed too busy for him, disappearing before the crack of dawn only to appear late at nights. She also played mind games with him whenever she was around. One minute she was all over him, flirting and touching him. Then the next, she would push him away and make jokes about wolves. He was starting to believe Alexis, but not fully, because he had finally found his mate and there was no way that he could think of her as a bad person. He was afraid to confront her in fear that she may take offence and leave.Gore sighed, trying to keep his mind off Selina as he typed a document to send to another pack.Harlow, who was on his lap, was no help, because she kept hitting the keyboard, which caused random words to be typed. He held her tiny hands in one of his, but it only upset her."Muna," she said. He felt a shock and had to let go of her."Harlow did you just do that?" Gore asked. She looked up at him, then went back to hi
