Chapter 3: Marriage

Both Ethan's eyes and mouth were wide open in shock at what he just heard. He cleaned his ears and his eyes to be sure he was hearing and seeing well and to know if it was really his boss that was speaking and that he was seeing in front of him. He even pinched himself to be sure he was not dreaming and that it was actually his boss saying these things in real life.

He has been working for his boss for a few years now, so he knows how much his boss dislikes women.

Seeing the shocked look on his assistant’s face, Oliver smirked. "Your time starts now; if I were you, I would run out of here immediately to go do the task given so I won’t lose my job," Oliver said with an emotionless look on his face.

Ethan turned around immediately and rushed out. He would have to drop all the work he had in hand and focus on this difficult task of looking for a suitable wife because he could not lose his job.

Since almost all women are dying to be with his boss, it will not be hard to look for someone suitable who will at least love him and not just be after his money and status.

Within 24 hours, Ethan returned with over 20 women, and Oliver rejected them all after glancing at each of them just once. Ten hours later, he returned with another 20 sets and rejected all, not even bothering to go through their information.

It felt like ten years were added to Ethan’s age in just a day and half of being given this task.

"You do realize you have just 12 hours left and that standing here won’t do you any good." Oliver looked at his frustrated-looking assistant, who was standing across his study desk.

Ethan looked so red, with dark circles under his eyes. He used his hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead; even with the air conditioning in the study, he was still sweating.

"Get going unless you want to lose your job," Oliver said coldly. If not for the conditionsof his grandfather’s will, he would not even think of getting married, even in his grave.

Nine hours later, Ethan returned with a new batch, and this time he made sure to carefully select them. He chooses 10 from the upper class, 10 from the middle class with good careers, and this time he adds 5 from the lower class.

Oliver rejected 20 of them, and now it was only five left.

Ethan's heart drummed loudly in his chest as he feared that his boss would still not pick anyone, which meant he was going to lose his job.

After rejecting four, there was only one remaining. The last lady walked slowly into the study room and stood across Oliver, who was busy reading a news paper after getting bored of having to reject about 24 more women, making it a total of 64 women he has rejected in less than two days.

Sensing the presence of the last candidate he was going to reject, Oliver finally raised his head from the newspaper and then his eyes landed on a young girl with blond hair, average height, dark-brown eyes, and a fragile-looking figure standing across his study table.

His boss would usually glance at the women in less than 15 seconds, but his gaze on this last girl lasted for 30 seconds as he looked at her from head to toe.

Oliver’s eyes went back to the news paper. "She will do."

"Ethan breathed a sigh of relief; his storming heart became calm "At last," he muttered to himself.

"Tell the head maid to get her prepared in an hour; we are going to register the marriage”

"Right away boss” Ethan bowed his head low in respect and gratitude that he still had his job.

"Follow me, miss."

Nuella followed behind Ethan, but not after glancing towards Oliver’s side; unknown to her, he also glanced at her back as she walked away with Ethan.

When they got far away from the office, Ethan turned to Nuella, which made her stop.

"Why are we stopping?"

"I just want to say thank you for agreeing to come Miss Allen; you are a lifesaver. I had faith he was going to pick you, and surprisingly he did."

After selecting 24, it was just one more to make it 25 when he remembered the beautiful lady who has a coffee shop that he usually goes to buy coffee before going to work close to his neighborhood. Although she dressed ordinary and simple, there was just something about the young lady that owned it. To him, she didn’t look like someone from a poor background, and from his investigations, she was new in the neighborhood.

She spoke like a smart, educated lady with an intimate aura, even when she dressed like an ordinary girl in cheap clothes. He remembered her mentioning she had a crush on Mr. Haywood when she was drunk and something about it being for a long time.

Remembering that, he decided to ask her if she would want to be the wife of Mr. Haywood. She immediately agreed since it was an opportunity to be close to her crush, but when he told her the conditions, she frowned and almost backed out.

But he had to tell her that that he might lose his job if he doesn’t present someone suitable which made her agree.

"What makes you think he didn’t pick me because he didn’t want to lose a good assistant like you?

Ethan shakes his head. "There were other assistants who served Mr. Haywood diligently before me, so he wouldn’t think twice about making me jobless, and he is also not the sentimental type."

"Then why do you think he picked me? Although she has a crush on him, she knows what Mr Haywood dislikes the most, which is women, so she was surprised when he picked her.

"I think only Mr. Haywood can answer that question."

"Hmmm, okay"

Ethan introduced her to the headmaid. who is a middle-aged woman. The head maid, Rosa assisted her with all she needed, and soon she was dressed in a simple white gown.

When she got to the living room of the mansion, she met Mr Haywood, who was sitting down while busy with his phone.

"Since you are ready, let’s go." He stood up and headed outside without even looking at her, Nuella didn’t mind and just followed behind.

When she got outside the mansion, she saw him getting into a customized Maybach car and walked towards the car but was stopped by the bodyguards.

Nuella looked at them in confusion. Why are they stopping her?

One of the bodyguards pointed at the vehicle at the back of the Maybach, which is a limited-edition Mercedes-Benz.

She followed the bodyguard to the vehicle, but not after glancing towards the Maybach driving away at the front.

"Does he despise women to the point that he doesn’t sit in the same vehicle with them? Nuella thought to herself with a baffled look on her face.

After about 5 hours, they returned to the mansion with their marriage certificates, one for each of them. Oliver had long ago handed his own copy to his assistant, while Nuella held her own copy in her hand as she followed behind him into the mansion.

Oliver unbuttoned his suit and sat on one of the couches in his living room.

"Have your seat," he said, pointing at the couch across the center table.

Nuella sat down on the couch gracefully, then crossed her leg over the other.

Oliver watched the action with an emotionless look on his face. "Was she already getting comfortable when she just signed the marriage certificate?

"I’m sure my assistant already told you the conditions of this whole marriage thing, that this marriage will last for just a year and six months, and I wish that during that period you will give birth to my child. When the period of a year and six months is over, we will divorce and then go our separate ways.

"I know," she said.

Oliver signaled for his assistant to drop the contract in front of her.

Nuella stared at the contract that was dropped in front of her. She opened it and read the content carefully.

According to what is written in the contract, she will give birth to his child, and then after a year and six months is over, they will divorce, but she will have to abandon her child. The contract states that she is not to do anything that will risk the life of the baby. Oliver’s contract stated other rules, which made her frown.

Based on what is written in the contract, she will be offered 50 million dollars after everything is over. She stared at the written amount like it was nothing.

After reading everything, she dropped the contact on the table.

Oliver moved his eyes from the newspaper he was reading in her direction. "Since you have read it, go ahead and sign it," he said indifferently.

"Everything stated in the contract is your condition; there are some things I would like you to add to it."
