Chapter 4: Contract

Ethan’s mouth was left open after he heard what she said. He looked towards his boss to see his expression and saw that he still had that emotionless look on his face, but his piercing gaze was contrary to his expression.

Ethan swallowed and then turned to look at Nuella, who was calmly sipping the glass of water that was just brought to her.

"How can she be so calm?" Ethan wondered.

Nuella looked calm on the outside, but on the inside, she wasn’t.

Seeing that he was not ready to say anything, she continued "I want you to include that we are not going to middle in each other’s affairs, that I can go and come back to the house at any time or day I want, that I can continue my little business in the poor neighborhood I reside in. You will include that I’m the madam in this house and all household affairs will be handled by me, that you will eat breakfast and dinner made by me and lastly that I can come see my child three times in a month after our divorce because there is no way I will allow my child to grow without a mother" when she raised her head to look at him after finishing her speech, the kind of look she saw on his face made her shiver, he had this dark and scary look on his face like he was going to skin her alive, but she comported herself and behaved like she was unaffected.

Ethan’s mouth was wide open at her audacity to make her own rules. He knows her to be the fearless type, but when faced with Mr. Haywood, the man who controlled the city, he never thought she could have such audacity.

Nuella, despite her calm exterior, could sense the tension in the air. She knew she was pushing the boundaries, but she also knew that she couldn't back down.

Ethan took a careful look at her; although she looked fragile on the outside but has a really bold personality, he wondered what other personality she had. How fearless she is to make demands.

"No, nothing will be changed; now go ahead and sign the contract or else..." Oliver warned

"Else?"

"You would have to leave my house and wait till the court presents you with divorce papers."

He is going to divorce her after two hours of just getting married? Nuella’s heart soured, but she smiled.

She stood up on her feet and picked up her handbag. "Well then, Mr. Haywood, I will take my leave and I will make sure to return this dress after doing the dry cleaning." She turned around and started walking to the front door.

"Boss, are you really going to let her go? Remember, you have just a year and six months and there is no other better candidate than her; you both already signed the wedding certificate, so why not just get on with it? You can negotiate with her regarding her request or even agree with it...." Ethan shut his mouth and swallowed after receiving a cold stare from his boss.

Oliver tapped his hand on the armrest of the couch as he thought about her request. She wanted him not to meddle in her business and to allow her to continue her tiny business; that he could allow, but for the part where she said she wanted to be in her child’s life, that part he could not agree to. There is no way he is going to allow his child to experience what he did at the hands of his own mother. What if she becomes a terrible mother like his was? He doesn’t want to take a chance.

When she was outside the mansion, she turned around and looked at the entrance, where several guards stood. As much as she wanted to run in there and sign the document so as to be with the man of her dreams, she couldn’t.

If she wanted to make him fall in love with her later and wish nothing else but to be with her by extending their marriage, she needed to act indifferent and tough. She needs to show him that she doesn’t have any feelings for him like every other woman in this city does, and slowly she needs to show him that she is different and won’t be like any other woman he has experienced.

She sighed and started walking away. She brought her phone out to call a taxi when she heard her name. She stopped and saw Ethan walking towards her.

"Mr. Haywood wants to see you."

"Huh?" She was surprised.

"Yes, I think he is going to agree to your request." Ethan smiled

Nuella went back inside with Ethan.

"You asked to see me, Mr. Haywood?"

"Seat"

Nuella sat down on the couch where she had sat previously.

"I will agree to your requests, but for the part where you requested to always see your child three times a month, I won’t agree on that."

Nuella immediately stood up at his statement, "There is nothing to discuss then."

"You will only get 30 million instead of 50 million if you want me to include that clause in the contract."

Nuella turned to him and said, "Fine." She didn’t care about the money in the first place.

Oliver studied her carefully for a while. "Well then, since that is settled, you can move in." He stood up and left the living room.

Ethan released a breath he didn’t know he had been holding. He looked at his boss, who was heading to the elevator, and then Miss Allen, who was standing and staring at him.

"I will ask the housekeeper to show you around and to your room; welcome to your new home, Miss Allen." He smiled.

Oliver got into his elevator and headed to his study room. He thought about Miss Allen and could not help but admit that there was no better candidate than her. He had only known her for a few hours, but that was enough to know that there was no better candidate than her. Just now, she showed him that she had value. Although he doesn’t want any women in his child’s life, her request showed how much she wants to be in her child’s life. Then she had walked away after telling her that they would divorce, showing that she doesn’t care about the sum he was going to pay her or the title of being called the wife of the youngest billionaire. She also seems not to have feelings for him like almost all the women in H city does, which is something he likes.

She didn’t care about anything, so what was her reason for agreeing to marry him? Or is she pretending?

She didn’t behave like someone from a poor background, and that is uneducated. According to the information given to him by Ethan, she only went to high school and started her coffee shop by requesting a loan from a friend. She is an orphan, which means she has no family. But he feels there is something else about her he doesn’t know.

"Jack"

"Yes boss"

"Tell the private investigator to run a proper investigation on Miss Allen."

"Okay boss"
