Chapter 5

 Eve's pov

Waking up the other day was hard, I was in a deep slumber for a change. Last night I was off till late night doing assignments and cleaning my house so that I could enjoy tomorrow with my new friends.

I groaned and moaned for a good five minutes and kept rolling on my bed because I didn't want to wake up but then finally when the sunlight sprinted through my window I thought of waking up and cleaning the house because we are having a Barbecue tomorrow.

As I made my way to the washroom, I tied my hair in a bun and realised that my hair is getting longer. I need to cut it. After taking a shower and changing into a fresh pair of clothes for school I looked at myself in the mirror and found that the dark circles were fading.

I applied moisturizer and Sunburn on my face and lip balm on my lips which gave it a glossy look that made me satisfied. After I brushed my hair, I put them down like a chocolaty wave before going out of my room to get some food first in my stomach.

I felt like putting effort into my breakfast today so I took out some eggs and bread and  some fruits to make a Sunny side up. Before the monsters came into my life I used to help nanna Elle make breakfast in the morning everyday. That was our thing.

I used to think what if those people never came into my life then my life would have been beautiful though I would have missed my grandparents but I would have been living with the people that care for me and loved me.

I sighed hard and put all the food and my coffee to a plate and went to the backyard to eat. I don't usually eat there. But since today I woke up early I decided to eat here.

As I started munching on my food and looked around I realised I didn't see or hear my wolfie last night. My mind drifted to the look of hurt in his eyes before he left me. Is it possible to see an animal's emotion from their eyes or do I need a doctor?

I shook my head and looked around. The whole backyard was kind of messed up. Since I was focusing on growing the front garden I completely neglected this part of my house. But I need to clean it so that we can all feel comfortable here.

After finishing my food I took the plates inside the house and dumped them. Then I went outside to the garage to get all the things that I needed to clean the backyard. Then I started working. First I started by cleaning out all the weeds and other unnecessary plants. Then I swept all the dried leaves and dumped them in the dustbin.

I looked at the griller I had and saw that it's become rustic and I need to clean it so I started cleaning it. I took out the chairs from the porch and placed them in the backyard. By the time I was finished it was nine o'clock so I went inside to get cleaned and leave.

But the moment I came downstairs to get my case I remembered that my car broke down yesterday. I was contemplating on calling someone or walking to the school but then thought that Ashton's house is on the way to my school. I can ask for a ride if he is available or I will walk.

But as I stepped out of my house I saw my car sitting in front of my drive hue.as I inched close I saw it wasi locked and the key was inside. There was a note glued to my front wheel that said 'take care of this baby for me.'

"Aston!" I chuckled and shook my head as I started my car.the engine came roaring to life and I squealed in delight. I was so upset when it broke down in the middle of the road. It was my grandfather's car. The only connection that I left with my grandparents.

"I should thank him, and ask him what went wrong." I decided and drove away to school.

 ………………………………………………

As the classes went by.I didn't meet any of my friends though we were texting back and forth in the W******p group. We all planned to meet it at the table for lunch. But I had an English literature class with Ashton.

"Hey," I said sitting down next to him.

"Hey, how are ya?" He grinned at me and we high-five.

"I'm good. I was actually looking for you too-" before I could finish the professor walked in and the class started.

It was a whole forty-five minutes class and I couldn't get to thank him because one I'm a literature sucker and two you don't mess with literature professors. So I thanked him after the class as we were making our way to the canteen.

"Hey, thanks for repairing my car." I began.

"Your car is already repaired?" He asked me, looking a bit shocked.

"What do you mean?" I was confused."Didn't you repair my car?" He shook his head.

"I know who it is." He smirked at me.

"Who?" I raised an eyebrow. Searching in my head who can be generous enough to repair my car overnight.

    "It was Danzel,"He said.

" Are you serious?" I asked again.

"Yes, he can be the only one who is capable of knowing all the nerves of a classic like yours." I nodded my head and thought about thanking Danzel.

For some reason my inside filled with warmth as the thought of danzel skipping all his sleep to repair my car. It made me feel happy about that. Maybe he is not that bad. I thought I'll thank him when I see him at the table.

Ashton and I walked towards the canteen talking about all the things that are not important. I just realised that he is a complete geek and a literature fan like me. We talked about our favorite books and authors, but out of nowhere someone jumped on Ashton.

I was startled by it until I realized it was sarika. I shook my head and smiled as they embraced each other.i looked around to realize that we are already inside the canteen and Emily is waving her hand at me to join.

As I walked towards the table my eyes searched for him, I was excited to see him. But my inside faltered the moment I saw him sitting sandwiched between two girls. They were all over each other's hands and mouths.

I took a deep breath to gather my thoughts and sat with Emily. He didn't even notice me, and I know better than to disturb him right now. So I thought I would thank him later and started talking to the others present there, making sure to not look in his direction.

…………………………………………………

"Damn, this is so tasty." I couldn't begin to express how tasty Emily's burgers are. The patty was so juicy and tasty it literally melted on my tongue.

"Wait till you taste the pizza she makes" James said with his mouthful and I scrunch my nose. I hate people who talk with their mouth full of food.

"Where did you learn cooking from?" I asked while taking another bite of my juicy burger.

"I learnt from my nana." She looked at me. "When I was young, I used to help her make food. And that's where my passion for food grew I guess."

My thoughts went back to my childhood; I used to do the same as well. But unlike her my passion for food never grew.

"Well, I used to help my nana Elle help in cooking as well. But I never learnt anything except making my breakfast." I chewed on and said.

    "Really?" I nodded.

"Isn't it pretty ironic that you work at a restaurant?" James said and we all laughed.

"But it's different though." I managed while trying to control my breath. "I don't cook there, I serve."

    "Point," Emily noted.

After that we pretty much concentrated on finishing our late lunch which was burgers Emily brought. She said she wanted to surprise us.And I was clearly surprised.

Thankfully I skipped my lunch, so I am gonna eat this delicious, no no over delicious burger till I can't walk.

We are sitting inside my kitchen waiting for the boys and Sarika to arrive. James and Emily reached before them because they had all the groceries that we needed. Though I had everything in my house they insisted on bringing more in case we needed more.

"Let's go outside and prepare for the barbecue till they come." I suggested getting up from my seat and taking the plates to the sink.

"Well, no Ms. Impatient. We have to wait." Emily shook her head.

"Why?" I frowned. "We could at least prepare the meat."

"No we won't. Because Leon will kill us." James made a sign with his finger in front of his throat.

"Is that so?" I was amused.

"Yes, when we usually prepare barbecue or something Leon is the one who cooks." Emily explained to me and I nodded thoughtfully.

"And by cooking she means preparing as well." James looked at me. When I raised my eyebrows.

"Okay? But will they be here?" I whined like a child. Honestly I was impatient because I wanted to see Denzel. I couldn't talk to him in school and now that I got a chance I want to talk to him. Because he will be alone, so his temper level will not hike, when I disturb him.

A knock from the front door startled me, they must be here. I looked up to see Emily already making her way towards the door.

My heart rate spiked up, and my palm became calmy. What the fudge is happening to me? Why am I so nervous all of a sudden?

"You okay?" I jumped at James's voice. His eyes were narrowed at me, he might have suspected my nervousness. Stupid me.

I just smiled and nodded. The voices were getting louder so they must be closer. I got up to greet them. I hope everything will be fine, I chanted as I marched towards the front door.

But stopped mid step when I saw who all were here. Basically our normal group is; Leon, Ashton, Sarika and Denzel. But of course he wouldn't come alone.

    Shit.

………………………………………………...

Everyone was sitting and having fun, while Leon and I  we're preparing the barbecue. He was laughing at my cooking skills while I was pouting and frowning at myself.

But no matter what I was happy, after a long time I felt happy. My heart was content with just looking at my friends whom I have come to care for in just a few weeks.

"You gotta concentrate princess." Leon said.

"I am concentrating." I tried to hold the stupid spatula properly with my left hand. Because my right hand was wounded.

Well I wounded myself this morning when I was chopping fruits for my breakfast. Yeah! I am that skilled in the kitchen.

"I don't know how someone can slice their finger while cutting bananas." Ashton laughed from behind me. I looked over my shoulder to glare at him.

"Accident happens Ashton!" I defended myself.

"Yeah, it would have been called an accident if you were a three year old." He smirked and walked away with some beer cans that were in the cooler.

"Ignore them." Leon said I  smiled at him and got back to work.

I felt the same feeling of someone watching me again. The hair on my nape stood up and I knew who it was. Danzel of course.

He has been glaring at me from the moment I stood in front of the barbecue. But I ignored him and went in with my work. Not that he is saying anything to anyone, he is busy with roaming his hands all over his date or girlfriend,or whatever he introduced her to be. Not that I am looking.

Okay maybe I looked from the corner of my eyes.

But I needed to thank him and with his girlfriend sitting on his lap talking to my friends like they were hers, I can't. And no I'm not jealous.

'Lier, lier, pants on fire.' My stupid inner self chimed.

I Rolled my eyes and shook my head in exasperation. My inner self was a naughty girl with a bigger backbone than me. Which I am yet to achieve.

My thoughts wouldn't move from the image of the girl on his lap and it made me hate my inner self, cause it's all her fault.

"Come on everyone, it's ready.!" Leon's voice made me snap out of my thoughts. I looked up to see everyone getting up from their seats, I smiled at their excitement.

My eyes move towards the person I have been hoping to talk to. He was sitting in his chair with his phone in his hand and alone for a change. I looked at where his date was and saw her talking to Sarika.

I had the opportunity to talk to him as he got up and moved from the noise of the crowd. I followed him, and waited from a distance for him to finish his conversation, which took only a few seconds.

I moved forward just the moment he turned and stopped in my tracks. God he was so beautiful up close. His green eyes were so beautiful and so enchanting. I was stuck in his eyes to look somewhere else.

"What?!" I jumped at his voice and saw him looking at me, no glaring at me.

"Umm...hii." I smiled at him nervously. "I wanted to talk to you." I started taking a deep breath.

"Well, I don't have time for your talk. Go talk to Leon, you seem to enjoy talking to him." He hissed and walked away.

        What the hell?!

"You know what?" I called before he could walk away. I walked up to him and looked right into his eyes.

"To hell with you." I have reached my peak of patience. "I Just wanted to thank you for repairing my car. But since you so hate talking to me, I won't ever talk to you! I won't ever disturb you! Ever." My eyes were stinging by the time I walked away and joined my friends. I took a deep breath and smiled at them.

God, Why does he hate me so much?
