Chapter 18

On getting home, the house was quiet .

Shane Williams had gone to the company and hadn’t returned.

Remembering something, Stephanie glanced at the two children who were playing with their phones as if nothing happened.

“Don’t tell your grandpa about this, I don’t want him to worry.”

The twins nodded. “got it.”

If she’s not mistaken, that person was just following orders, so she needs to act fast to prevent something like this or even more, from happening again.

She wanted to investigate this matter alone, she didn’t want to involve her father., so that he wouldn’t feel guilty if it turns out to be Margret or Jane.

She had just returned to Cali city some months ago, and couldn’t remember offending anyone, even if she had, they could have come after her, and not target her children.

They only people who would want her children dead are Margret and her daughter, apart from them she had no other suspects.

If she finds out that the mastermind behind today’s incident is Margret or her daughter, she won’t hesitate to give them a test of their own medicine.”

They can bully her, but her children are off limits.

Stephanie decided to call the director of the institute first, and inform him she would be taking the day off.”

After briefly explaining the situation to the director, he agreed to let her take the day off. she hung up the call.

After ending the call with the director, she dialed a series of number , the call was answered on the first ring, seeing this Stephanie went straight to the point. “Can we meet today? I have something to discuss with you.”

“Yeah! What’s up?”

“Where are you?”

“Felix hotel. room 108.”

“Got it, I’m coming now,” Stephanie said as she ended the call.

She went upstairs to inform Liam and Lily who had already gone to their rooms that she was going out.

“I’m heading out now, don’t leave the house until your grandfather returns.”

“We understand,” they both said.

Stephanie went to her room, freshened up, she wore a black trench coat and headed out.

She ordered a ride, because of what happened this morning she couldn’t trek or wait for a cab.

When hwr ride arrived, she got in and headed to Felix hotel.

Thirty minutes later, she arrived at the hotel.

She went straight to the room number that Joe had told him and rang the doorbell.

After a while, the door was swung open.

Standing there was a man, who was in his late twenties , about six feet tall with a slender and striking appearance. he was dressed in a white shirt with three buttons open, a black blazer on top it, a black trouser and white shoes. he had makeup on , he has a pretty blue eyes, although he was wearing eye contact.

Looking at him, you could mistake him for a woman.

As soon as he saw Stephanie, he spread his arms wide for a hug. “Stephanie its being ages, I’ve missed you so much…”

Stephanie pushed him away lightly and walked inside.

Joe’s hands fell, “you’re so boring, with this attitude, no man will dare love you.”

Seeing her walk inside freely, Joe asked. “Walking into a man’s room like that,aren’t you afraid of the danger?”

“Are you a man?” Stephanie shot back.

Joe was speechless.

What could he say.

Stephanie has never considered him as a man, so saying this is just shooting himself on the foot.

He cat-walked and followed him inside.

Stephanie headed straight for the couch and lazily sat down.

“Seems you are going out,” Stephanie asked casually.

Joe flashed her a smile, “I was about to go see my babe, before your call came in, so why did you remember me today.”

“I want you to investigate something for me.”

Stephanie narrated what happened that morning to him, and told him her prime suspect.

They’ve really on guard, using an unlicensed car!”

I want you to gather information on Margret and Jane, from last month to this date, including were she went and who she met, hack into their phone and check their messages, calls and their bank transfer records.”

“Got it, you only come to me when you need something, apart from that you won’t even remember me.”

Ignoring him, Stephanie got up to leave.

Seeing this, Joe furrowed his brow, “leaving so soon?”

“What else.”

“Aren’t you going to treat me a meal for my handwork .”

“You haven’t even done the work yet, and you’re already asking for some credit.”

Joe. “….”

What else could he say.

Seeing his silence, Stephanie smiled,

“I will treat you to a meal during the weekend , and invite Elie and some people I want to introduce you to.”

Hearing this, Joe grinned, “very well then, so who are this people that you want to introduce me to, are they into…”

Knowing what he was thinking, Stephanie rolled her eyes at him. “dream on.” With that she walked away.

Watching her leave, Joe shook his head.

After all this years, she is still the same.

On her way home, she stopped at the mechanic shop. Luckily the were done repairing her car, so she drove herself home.

After returning home, Stephanie ate, washed up and went straight to bed .

However just as she was about to sleep, her phone rang.

She picked up the phone and glanced at the screen, when she saw it was Elsie calling, she picked up the call.

“Stephanie, can you come over at Pride garden and pick me up I’m drunk.” With that the call ended.

Seeing this, Stephanie chuckled. “After all this years, Elsie hasn’t changed a bit.

She got out of bed, grabbed her car keys and headed downstairs , in the living , her father was chatting with the two little ones, on seeing her he asked. “Heading out?”

“Yes, Elsie is drunk and needs help.”

“Okay, drive safely.”

“Mm, Stephanie responded, then she glanced at the two kids, “Get some sleep, and don’t stay up late, you’re going to school tomorrow.”

“Got it, mom.” They answered.

Stephanie walked to her car and drove away heading to Pride Garden.
