Lana’s POV

“Stop trying to change the subject, Max.” I said, my voice almost swallowed by the rush of the water.

His thumbs brushed the nape of my neck. “I’m just telling you how you make me feel, believe me, I had no intention of changing the subject.”

I turned in his arms, water beading on his lashes, catching in the rough edges of his stubble. “Then answer me, why do you get to leave me all alone here?”

“I’m just keeping you safe.” His voice was low and tempting.

I opened my mouth to argue, but then his lips were on mine, stealing whatever I was about to say. The kiss started deep and unhurried, his hand sliding to my back, pulling me closer until every inch of me was pressed against him.

The water streamed over us, soaking his shirt until it clung to him like a second skin. He broke the kiss only to strip it away, the fabric peeling wetly from his body before it hit the tiled floor.

When his skin met mine, the contrast was dizzying, and unyielding. His hands traced the line of my

Lana’s POVHis other hand slid over my hip, fingers pressing possessively through the fabric. The weight of him, the way his presence filled every inch of air, made my body tense and melt all at once.“Do you have any idea what I’d do if I ever lost you?”I swallowed hard, my throat moving beneath his palm, and his eyes locked onto the motion as if he could feel it as much as see it.His hold on my neck became a slow, deliberate caress while his touch at my side shifted with an unmistakable intent, leaving no question about how this confrontation between us was about to change. The temperature in the living room got hotter. Then he released my neck and his mouth crashed against mine in a kiss that was all fierce and unrelenting. I gasped into him, my hands instinctively gripping his shirt, pulling him closer. The taste of him was intoxicating, like a delicious wine I wanted to keep drinking. When he pulled back, our foreheads rested together, his breath harsh and uneven. “If a situa

Lana’s POVThe elevator doors slid open with a soft chime, and I stepped inside, I tried to take deep breaths to calm down a little. My pulse was still loud in my ears, quick from the message and from the decision I hadn’t fully thought through but couldn’t back out of now.As the doors closed, I smoothened my hair, just so I’d do something to calm my shaky hand. The ride down felt longer than usual, each floor clicking past with an exaggerated pause, as though the building itself wanted to stall me.When the elevator finally opened to the ground floor, the bodyguards were stationed by the front entrance, suits looking crisp with earpieces in place. They straightened up more when they saw me.“I’m heading out,” I said, forcing my voice to sound casual. “Just for a bit.”Their expressions didn’t change. The taller one shook his head immediately. “I’m sorry, ma’am. Alpha Max left strict orders, you’re not to leave the premises without his clearance.”“Yes, I’m aware of his strict orders

Lana’s POVI felt Max’s hand slide away from my waist, the warmth of his palm lingering against my skin. The bed dipped as he rose, and the quiet rustle of the sheets. I watched his silhouette cross toward the door, his shoulders still tense from whatever had been on his mind earlier. The door clicked softly behind him.I let out a long, quiet sigh, staring up at the ceiling. The stillness pressed in on me. How had I ended up under house arrest in my own life? It wasn’t like he had locked me in, but his voice from earlier still rang in my ears, firm and non-negotiable: Stay home. Don’t go out. Not until I say so.I rolled onto my side, trying to will myself to relax. A minute passed then another. The clock on the wall ticked steadily, each second felt louder than the last. He still hadn’t come back. The restless energy under my skin began to itch. I sat up, pushed my hair out of my face, and decided a hot shower might at least drown out the noise in my head.In the bathroom, the faint

My thumb moved once, tracing the fabric, more reflex than choice. Her back softened against me, just barely. I lowered my forehead to the curve of her neck. The warmth there was the kind that seeps in and stays. Her hand shifted until her fingers brushed mine. I froze, then closed them more firmly over her, to keep her there. The space between what we’d said and this moment was still there, but it dulled under the slow alignment of her breathing with mine.I just stayed like that until we both fell asleep.Morning came like a weight I wasn’t ready to carry. I hadn’t really slept. The hours between midnight and dawn had been an endless loop of pacing, replaying Lana’s face when she’d thrown the jailer line at me. The words had lodged somewhere under my ribs, irritating my every breath.I was halfway through my first cup of coffee, staring out at the skyline from the penthouse, when my phone buzzed. It wasn’t a regular call. It was the encrypted line.“Alpha Max, there’s.. something hap

Lana’s POV“Then I guess I shouldn’t keep you waiting.”The words slid out of him in that low tone that always seemed to pull the air tighter between us. My pulse ticked up, matching the faint hum of the air conditioner above our windows. He didn’t rush. Max never did. Each step toward the bed felt like he was closing more than just space, it felt like he was closing in on every thought I’d been trying to keep separate from him.His scent was especially very alluring tonight. My muscles loosened without permission. He stopped at the edge of the bed, his gaze fixed on mine.“You should be under the covers,” he murmured.“Maybe I like it this way,” I said, voice softer than I meant it to be.A small huff of amusement escaped him, though it didn’t reach his eyes. His hand came down to the duvet near my hip, the mattress dipping slightly under his weight. The warmth of him bled through the space between us.“Lana…” he started, his tone shifting but threaded with that careful authority he
