Chapter 18

Sarah's POV

All I remember seeing before hitting the sofa with my stomach, and spitting blood, was Ace’s red face.

I thought I was seeing the devil, except it was my brother. The brother I'd cherished the rest of my childhood. The brother I helped with maths homeworks and defended at school when everyone bullied him. I never considered him a step brother, but just a brother in need of a big sister to give maternal love to when Lulu was busy having brunch everyday.

And today this is how he repays me. I felt my eyes well up, and I let it all out. Within a few seconds my face was covered in water.

I remembered Luis was here with me. In so much pain, I forced myself up and pivoted to where I was standing earlier. I grasped for air.

It seemed as though Luis wanted to hit Ace’s face with a fist, but the latter was blocking it with his palm so effortlessly. Like in the movies.
