Kael's POV

My instincts have never been wrong, Lucius was able to attack me because he had help. And not only ordinary help in this regard. Some close acquaintances of mine spied on me. His attack was not rough or improvised. Rather, it was calculated concise and precise. He couldn't have done that without having sensitive information about me.

The first suspects were my guards, they were in the best position to disclose sensitive information about my warfare and security. I wanted to suspect the cooks, but they would rather poison me and put an easy end to the war than assist Lucius with green wolfsbane and the truth about the fence.

The walls fell flat, the stones crumbling and disintegrating from the chemicals and the bullets. I only escaped death by a hair's breadth. It was easy to have the stone mason get to work rebuilding the wall, but my peace has been stolen since then. I could no longer sleep with my eyes open, and my mind was filled with re-echoing blasts and battle cries.

"Your grace. Information has been found on the soldiers."

I stood from my throne immediately, my eyes widened with expectant surprise.

"Have you found them? Do you know where they are?"

The chief of guards shook his head somberly.

"Turns out, you were right after all Alpha. Those soldiers were not part of us. They are rogues. They've been pretending to be part of us the whole time while delivering information to Alpha Lucius. I'm sorry, Your Grace. I should have been more vigilant and observant."

"That was a foolish fault on your end, but I don't have time to pass blame around. We need to find them and do with them accordingly."

"Yes, your grace." He fell flat on his face, trembling. "We have found them. The two of them have a clique of other soldiers and they all stay on No Man's Land. Information also reached us that some of them have collected money to hand over to Alpha Lucius. You don't need to give the other this time, I will find..."

I sprang off my throne before he could finish the statements.

"Arrange 20 men and lead the way, I want to deal with these men myself."

An hour later, I was in the swampy, dense and dark forest of the small island just outside the borders of the two packs.

"The men have built a colony of shacks near a pond. They have no idea we are coming."

My eyebrows fell into a tight line.

"We can't be so sure anymore. Anybody could be a spy and a traitor."

The man kept silent and we proceeded to the location. But a few minutes into our movements, arrows suddenly flew from all sides hitting the men and killing them straight on the spot.

"Take cover! We are under attack."

Immediately, my men and I got into position, and we were totally ambushed. The men were just as the chief of guards had described, but they were more than 20. Fuck! I drew out my sword, covered my face with my armour and slashed the first attacker into pieces. Before I knew it, the entire space was filled with metals clanging, loud cries and painful grunts.

My men were winning; the deserters were no match for them. My plan was to take one of them alive and have him tell me Lucius' location. But my nightmare soon fell upon me. It started with more arrows flying from the skies. Some of the arrows had flames at the tip, and the forest soon caught on fire.

"Take cover!" I screamed. "Stay away from the fire!"

And as we were scattering about taking covers I saw another group of armies approaching, a cloud of dust following them. And suddenly, the loudest thunderous roar I have ever heard in my life. It was the devil himself, Lucius!

"Shift! Now!"

Immediately, my let out a scream, mutating into their wolf forms, leaving behind their shredded clothes. Lucius and his men followed suit and God, I have never seen a wolf as a giant and strong Lucius. The battle went on, but this time my men had begun to lose. I had planned to hide and sleep away but Lucius found me before I could make the move.

The moment my eyes met his, I saw the flash of hatred in them. We stayed that way for some seconds, gazing at each other, breathing heavily. He was my arch nemesis, nothing could deny his bloodlust, or my aversion for him. I made the first attack, bouncing into the air and scraping at his face. Lucian stumbled backwards, but he bounced back quicker than I expected. I got into position, making to pounce on him again, but a strike from his claws sent me flying on my back.

I was no match for Lucian. I never have, and as long as he's alive I will never be. A few hours later, I shifted back into human form and reached for my sword. I didn't find any traces of weakness in Lucian, who instantly shifted and also drew his sword. My men had been vanquished, my eyes roaming the chief of guards' dead body. It was a fight to finish, my life or Lucius' demise.

"We could have been brothers," he breathed. "My kind and your people would have lived in harmony. But your evil heart and your desire for tyranny would not allow this. I do not wish for you to die Kael."

I managed a confident chuckle.

"It's been ages and counting, Lucius, and you are still all bark, no bite. You couldn't even take me on by yourself. You had to rely on puny spies."

"I am warning you Kael. I will give you the chance to abdicate and go into exile."

In that instant, I suspected that he was going to launch at me but I had a trick up my sleeve. I pretended to fall and then I scooped a handful of sand. Lucius was apparently distracted by my antics, and that gave me the chance to throw it in his face. The sword fell to the ground, his hand flying to his face. I took that as a chance and escaped.

Lyra’s POV. "I have been involved in a few fights in my life and I am not proud of everything that I have done but the only thing you can be rest assured of, is the fact that you would never be disappointed when it comes to me." Lucius told me.My eyes lingered on him, watching the once confident man look like he was trying so hard not to break down in my presence and I kind of understood it but at the same time, realized that he was fighting some battles that would never make any sense to me except he came out clean. "Of course you had to. How is that affecting you now?""Badly, a whole lot of people have different perception about me and as much as I would have loved for me to remain anonymous my past is finally catching up with me and I have to be at the center of it all making sure that everybody has a hand in this no matter what." He wasn't making any sense with his analogy and even though I wanted to believe him to some extent, I kind of felt like there was a little something

  • ALPHA KAEL'S REJECTION    CHAPTER 66

Kael's POV.My wolf led me to the plains, that was the only place that I could be able to get answers for what I was looking for and how long he was going to take for me to fathom a reasonable explanation and why she just disappeared. Selene must have been a bastard for thinking that you'll be able to make me convinced to do whatever she wanted and not what I truly wanted. How on Earth does she even think that it was possible? I had nothing to lose but she had everything and the entire world too. The father was not even as popular as he wanted to preserve his legacy and I was doing this simply because my pack members decided to go on a long journey to make sure that I was not doing anything against what was already in the works. I had nothing to lose nor gain, but now that Selene had spoken about it I was willing to abandon a few things to seek that girl out. She couldn't have been really far away or else I would have found her by now. I also didn't have anything to say apart fro

  • ALPHA KAEL'S REJECTION    CHAPTER 65

Lyra's POV.My first move was to comb the entire area making sure that I was able to drag the few things out."Don't you have a whole lot of things that you have to put into place before we start fighting against somebody that we know is going to prevail one way or the other?" It just didn't make sense to me no matter how much they were trying to go about it and paint it to be the real thing. I had already discovered a better way of handling the situation but none of this was sufficient enough for me. I had more ideas running through my mind and until they were done, I had nothing to fight for.One thing that was certain was the fact that I decided to go on with the entire trip. For Camille to think that everything was fine on my end and I was not under any pressure to give them a correct prediction or else lead them to their doom, she was just the same like everybody else. Most of them had concluded that I was overreacting about certain things that I did which was okay by me and

Kael's POV. I didn't have much to think of but I knew that something had been going on that I have was not very attentive to and I needed to change that immediately before it was so late for me to do that anymore I wasn't obsessing over Selene but she had made very valid points and I needed to check downtown just to see what was lurking behind this scenes As a spy myself I knew that whenever there was a lot of count it was going to birth something more than a whirlwind. I didn't have much to talk about but I was very sure that there was even something else going on that needed to help in releasing the pains. I had nothing more to look for besides the obvious answers that I had gotten over a long time. I didn't also have what it took to be able to switch things up but I was sure that at some point I would be able to see what was going on and deal with it. Firstly there was nothing else that I needed to do that was going to help out. All I needed right now was to make sure that I h

Lyra's POV. One of the most amazing things that I had ever done in my entire life had to be the fact that I have been able to understand the difference between the different timelines and how to navigate through it without losing my mind.I was only committed to one and that needed all the time in the world just to be able to sort many differences out."So... Are you a little bit worried by what this might bring and how longMy heart was pounding so hard that I almost felt it leaping out of my chest. My hands were tight but I had only one will.I needed to live, even if that was the last thing that I did. There was basically no option for me and I wasn't going to take chances. "If she gets away, we are doomed!" Somebody yelled from behind me. I was a little bit irritated by the way they were acting but I couldn't blame them either. It wasn't entirely there fault the way things were going, they had just been conditioned to think that Selene wielded the entire power. I also thought

  • ALPHA KAEL'S REJECTION    CHAPTER 62

Lyra's POV. I didn't think that there was going to be a change in the fact, "I didn't have the right to change the mandate but there wasn't anything more the other day." "Are you sure that there's something wrong with the issues at hand or is this something else that you need to tell me?" Camille headed towards me with the intention to get more information out of me but that was not going to happen. I had already figured out that there was going to be a little bit of a mix up here and there and I was waiting to see how long it was going to take and what exactly I had to do to sort out the entire problems. I had taken a deep breath yet refused to look straight into what she wanted me to do. I was thinking about how long it was going to take for me to be able to sort out a few things but here I was, dealing with more issues than none. "Is this really a thing or...?"I took a deep breath refusing to answer my question because it was harmful to my person and I would love to have the
