CHAPTER 2: BLIND DATE

SEVEN YEARS LATER

DIONNAH'S POV

Beep! Beep! Beep!

I didn't get a chance to settle in my office before my phone started to buzz...

"Delaney designs, Dionnah Delaney speaking how may I help you?" I answered

"Good you're in," Chirped my assistant on the other end of the line...

"What is it, Amelia?"

"Listen boss I'm coming by your office right now, we have matters of utmost importance to discuss."

"Fine," I sighed into the receiver before hanging up.

I knew what was of grave importance to my pushy little assistant. She had been nagging me for a month now about going on a blind date with a friend of hers from college. I didn't do blind dates because they usually turned out to be disasters, but I finally said yes because I needed Amelia to lay off my back. I told myself that I would just find an excuse on the day of the date I thought to myself. But Amelia was not having it.

Five minutes later Amelia was in my office pestering me about what I was going to wear on my little date.

"I'm just gonna leave work and go to the date, I wasn't planning on going home to change."

"Urrgh, seriously!"Amelia groaned.

"You need to make sure you look hot because Michael likes his women a certain way."

"Women?"I asked with my eyebrows cocked.

"You know what I mean," Amelia pouted while swatting my arm.

"Fine I'll dress up," I assured her

"Now get back to work will ya," I said pushing her through my office door.

I busied myself with some paperwork I had on my desk.

It was hard at times doing the work I do. Accounting is something I loved but designing is my passion. Sometimes it was frustrating when you had deadlines to meet in a limited time. I vowed not to take on any outside account but when people come to me desperate and at their wit's end I cannot say no.

So I had to put my design on hold on many occasions. Thank the Lord I had my sister by my side.

Danielle is three years older, but sometimes it felt like I am the older one.

I was happy for Danielle when she met Jonathan a year ago. I was utterly shocked when I found out he was white and more shocked when they got engaged four months ago. I thought it was too soon but when you find true love why wait.

When I looked at the clock it was almost 3 pm. I decided to leave work early to go and prepare for my date.

I got home and headed straight to the shower. Fifteen minutes later I was standing inside my walk-in closet indecisive on what to wear. I stood there for almost fifteen minutes before I picked out an ensemble.

I decided on blue jeans pant, a cream silk top with my Navy blue cardigan, and cream flats.

I decided to leave my hair as it was in its curly state. No make-up and a little lip gloss and I was ready to leave.

When I got downstairs I realized Danielle and Jonathan were home.

"Hey, when did you guys get home?" I asked.

"About half an hour ago," Danielle answered. "Whoa, where are you going looking so hot?" Dani inquired.

"You forgot I have a blind date," I answered twirling.

"Oh right, I still can't believe you agreed to that."

"Tell me about it," I retorted.

"I'm glad it's not too late, you be safe and call if there's an issue."

"It's just dinner I'll be back by seven, mwah," I said while throwing Dani a kiss on her cheek.

"Have fun Dionnah," smiled Jonathan as I reached the door.

"But not too much," chimed Dani as I shut the door behind me.

When I reached the restaurant I stood outside waiting on the text from my supposed blind date. My phone rang instead of chimed. Why was I nervous to answer?

"Hello," I answered at the third ring, scanning my environment.

"Hi," the voice over the phone greeted, but it sounded like the voice came from behind me.

I turned around to a tall figure standing in the doorway. He was clad in a white dress shirt and jeans pants with black low tops. I scanned his body from his feet going up. He had strong legs, I could tell by the way his jeans hugged them. His chest was broad and sturdy. Arms muscular and I could see a tattoo peeking out of his right sleeve. My eyes roamed his shoulders to his neck.

My heart slammed into my chest when my eyes met with two blue orbs. I felt as if I stared into them I would get lost in those marvelous pools of cobalt blue. So I diverted my eyes to his lips as he spoke.

"Hi, I'm Michael, you must be Dionnah," he announced smiling while extending his hand.

"Hello, nice to meet you," I replied, and as I shook his hand a bolt of electricity coursed through my body, leaving a very uncomfortable tingling sensation in my core.

I retracted my hand, hoping that he didn't realize that I was uneasy.

"Shall we go in?" He asked.

"I__ ah__, sure," I answered feeling a little hesitant.

Before we arrived at the table I noticed all eyes on us. I started to feel a little uncomfortable as he held out the chair for me to sit.

He went around and took his seat.

"So tell me a little about yourself," he tried to make conversation.

"Well I'm an accountant and I also do designing with my sister."

"Wow, two jobs ah! So that means you must be a busy woman," He stated staring at me.

I was becoming more and more uncomfortable. If not for his intense eyes that were locked on me, for the whispers and snickers I could hear around us.

I decided I didn't want to be there anymore.

"Look you seem like a nice guy but I think this was a mistake," I stated while standing.

"Really?" He asked puzzled

"Yeah, it was nice meeting you but this will never work, take care," I bid him farewell before exiting the restaurant.

I scolded myself for agreeing to this date. But it wasn't close to what I was going to do to Amelia for leaving out the fact that my blind date was drop-dead gorgeous and white...
