The grand ballroom buzzed with laughter, elegant music, and the soft clinking of crystal glasses.

Olivia stood near one of the towering windows, admiring the breathtaking view of Westbridge. Thousands of lights glittered below like tiny stars scattered across the earth.

"It's beautiful," she whispered.

"It becomes even more beautiful when you stop looking so nervous."

Mia appeared beside her, offering a glass of sparkling juice.

Olivia accepted it with a smile.

"I'm trying."

"You've been trying ever since we got here."

"I can't help it."

Mia linked her arm through Olivia's.

"Relax. Nobody here knows who you are."

She grinned.

"And for once, that's actually a good thing."

Olivia laughed softly.

"You always know what to say."

"I know."

The two friends wandered through the ballroom, pausing now and then to admire the luxurious decorations.

Everywhere Olivia looked, elegance surrounded her.

Golden chandeliers sparkled overhead.

Fresh white roses decorated every table.

A live orchestra played beautiful classical melodies from the stage while waiters in immaculate uniforms moved gracefully through the crowd carrying trays of sparkling drinks and delicate desserts.

It felt less like a hotel...

And more like another world.

On the hotel's private terrace...

Ethan Kingsley stood alone.

The cool evening breeze brushed against his face as he loosened his tie slightly.

He could still hear the orchestra playing inside, but out here, everything was peaceful.

Exactly the way he preferred it.

A familiar voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Hiding already?"

Ethan turned.

His cousin, Adrian Kingsley, leaned casually against the doorway, holding two glasses of champagne.

"I'm not hiding."

Adrian chuckled.

"You've been out here for fifteen minutes."

"I needed fresh air."

"You always need fresh air whenever people start asking when you're getting married."

Ethan accepted one of the glasses.

"I came for the charity auction."

Adrian raised an eyebrow.

"You came because Grandfather ordered you to."

Ethan couldn't argue with that.

Adrian lowered his voice.

"He's planning something tonight."

"I know."

"Do you know what?"

"No."

Adrian smiled sympathetically.

"I almost feel sorry for you."

For the first time that evening...

Ethan actually laughed.

Back inside the ballroom...

Olivia paused before a magnificent painting displayed beside the auction stage.

The rich colors and delicate brushstrokes immediately captured her attention.

"It's incredible," she said softly.

An elderly gentleman standing nearby smiled.

"The artist donated it this morning."

Olivia admired it for another moment.

"It's amazing."

"You appreciate art?"

She nodded.

"My father used to paint."

The words slipped out before she realized it.

The gentleman noticed the sadness that briefly crossed her face.

"He must have been very talented."

"He was."

A gentle smile appeared on Olivia's lips.

"I still have one of his paintings at home."

Before the conversation could continue, the host stepped onto the stage.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to tonight's charity auction."

The room erupted into applause.

Guests slowly found their seats.

Olivia and Mia settled near the back of the ballroom.

"This is exciting," Mia whispered.

"I've never been to an auction before."

Olivia smiled.

"Neither have I."

One by one, priceless items were presented.

A vintage watch.

A rare marble sculpture.

An antique diamond necklace.

Each piece sold for astonishing amounts.

Olivia watched in amazement.

She couldn't help wondering how many months of her mother's treatment those bids could have covered.

At the VIP table...

Ethan barely paid attention to the auction.

Victor Kingsley, however, followed every bid with quiet interest while occasionally scanning the room.

"You're distracted," Victor observed.

"I'm listening."

Victor smiled knowingly.

"No."

"You're thinking."

"I usually do."

A quiet laugh escaped Victor.

"You remind me so much of your father."

Ethan's expression immediately changed.

The mention of his father always left an ache he rarely allowed anyone to see.

Victor noticed.

But wisely chose not to continue the conversation.

The auction ended to enthusiastic applause.

As waiters began serving dinner, the ballroom filled once again with cheerful conversations.

Olivia turned toward Mia.

"I'll be right back."

"Don't get lost."

"I won't."

She slipped into one of the quieter hallways.

The peaceful silence lasted only a few seconds.

Then she heard it.

Soft crying.

Following the sound, Olivia discovered a little girl sitting alone on a velvet bench.

She couldn't have been more than six years old.

Tears streamed down her tiny face.

Olivia immediately knelt beside her.

"Hey..."

The little girl quickly wiped her eyes.

"What's wrong?"

"I can't find my mommy."

"It's okay."

Olivia smiled gently.

"We'll find her together."

After a brief hesitation, the little girl reached for Olivia's hand.

Only moments later, two anxious hotel security officers appeared, searching every hallway.

"There she is!"

Before anyone could say another word, a woman rushed forward and wrapped the little girl in a tight embrace.

"Oh, thank goodness!"

Relief filled her tearful eyes as she turned toward Olivia.

"Thank you."

"You have no idea how worried I was."

Olivia smiled warmly.

"I'm just glad she's safe."

The grateful mother opened her handbag.

"Please... let me thank you."

She reached for an envelope.

Olivia immediately stepped back.

"No, thank you."

"Please..."

"I didn't help because I wanted money."

The woman stared at her for a moment, surprised by the answer.

"Then at least tell me your name."

"Olivia."

"Thank you, Olivia."

As Olivia walked away...

She never noticed someone standing at the far end of the hallway.

Hidden behind a marble pillar.

Watching everything.

The mysterious figure quietly lowered a phone after taking a single photograph.

A faint smile appeared on their lips.

Then...

They disappeared into the crowd without leaving a trace.

Back inside the ballroom...

Mia waved enthusiastically the moment she spotted Olivia.

"There you are!"

"I was helping a little girl."

"I was beginning to think you'd vanished."

Olivia laughed.

"I promised I wouldn't get lost."

Outside, the first drops of rain gently tapped against the hotel's windows.

Inside...

The music continued.

Guests laughed.

Glasses clinked together.

No one realized that somewhere within those elegant halls...

A single photograph had just set a dangerous chain of events into motion.

And neither Olivia...

Nor Ethan...

Had any idea their lives had already begun to change.
