Jace

“Why are you all keeping quiet?” Ethan’s voice slices cleanly through the stunned silence.

Every head turns toward him. For a moment, even Tiffany forgets to breathe.

My brother stands at the end of the hallway wearing a gray hoodie over yesterday’s football practice shirt.

His dark hair is still damp from the shower, and confusion is written all over his face as his eyes move across the crowd.

First Tiffany, then me, and finally Skye. She’s still leaning against the wall, one hand pressed against her reddened cheek.

Her eyes are glassy, like she’s barely holding herself together. Something twists unpleasantly in my chest, and I force myself to ignore it.

Ethan steps closer, looking between the three of us. “Somebody care to explain?”

Nobody answers. The students glance at one another, waiting for someone else to speak first. Tiffany is the one who breaks the silence.

She lets out a disbelieving laugh. “Oh, perfect timing,” she folds her arms on her chest before pointing directly at me. “Ask your dear brother why he suddenly decided to replace me.”

Ethan frowns. “What are you talking about?”

“He just announced to the entire dorm that this…” she gestures toward Skye with obvious disgust, “…is his new girlfriend.”

Murmurs immediately ripple through the hallway again.

Ethan blinks once. Then looks at me. “Are you serious?”

“I don't joke about things like this.”

His eyebrows pull together. “What about Tiffany?”

“We broke up.”

“When?”

“Last night.”

His expression hardens. “You didn't tell me.”

“I didn't think I needed your permission.”

A few students snort, enjoying the tension between us. Tiffany’s face turns scarlet. “So that’s it?” she snaps. “You dump me and humiliate me in front of everyone?”

“I didn't humiliate you.”

She laughs bitterly. “No? You chose her over me.”

“I made a choice.”

“You made the wrong one.”

For the first time since this mess started, I hear movement behind me. Tiny. Barely noticeable. Skye.

I don't turn around; I already know what she’s doing. Trying to make herself invisible, like she always does when people stare at her. It never works. Not here. Not with this crowd.

Suddenly, someone in the crowd shouts, “Does Ethan know his brother stole his girlfriend?”

Laughter erupts.

Ethan immediately looks toward Skye, his expression softening. “Skye...”

She flinches; just hearing her name from him makes her shoulder tense. “I wasn’t…” Her voice cracks before she can finish. She lowers her head.

Damn it.

Another student whistles. “So she confessed to one twin yesterday and woke up dating the other today. Fastest rebound in history.” More laughter.

I feel my jaw tighten. “It’s enough.” My voice is not loud, and it doesn't need to be.

The hallway falls silent immediately.

I slowly scan the crowd. “If I hear one more comment...” I leave the sentence unfinished. I don't have to finish it.

Everyone knows exactly what I mean. One by one, the laughter dies. Phones begin disappearing into pockets. Good.

Tiffany stares at me like I've become a total stranger. “You have never defended anyone like this before.”

“ I am now.”

“Why?”

The question hangs in the air. Why?

Because I couldn't stand watching her cry? Because every tear felt like someone was twisting a knife inside my chest?

Or because I’ve spent years pretending she meant nothing while noticing every little thing about her?

No. None of those answers can leave my mouth, so instead, I shrug. “I felt like it.”

She scoffs. “You are lying.”

Maybe. Maybe not. I honestly don't know anymore because when I saw that post, when I watched hundreds of people laughing at Skye, something inside me snapped.

I wasn't thinking, wasn't planning. I just… moved.

My eyes drift toward her again. She’s staring at the floor, completely unaware that everyone is still looking at her.

Just like when we were kids, she always looked down whenever she was embarrassed. Back then… she would hide behind Ethan. Today, she’s hiding behind me.

The thought catches me off guard. A strange feeling settles in my chest before I shove it away. Dangerous. Very dangerous.

Ethan studies me carefully; I’ve known that look my entire life. He’s trying to figure me out.

I've spent years making sure nobody can. Not even my own twin.

Finally, he exhales. “Can we talk?”

“Later.”

“No.” His tone is firm. “Now.”

Around us, students lean in again; they can smell drama.

Tiffany wipes angrily at the tears gathering in her eyes before glaring at Skye one last time. “This is not over.”

She spins on her heels and storms away. Tracy and Betty scramble after her.

The crowd slowly begins to disperse, disappointed that the show is ending.

Only Ethan and Skye remain.

I finally turn toward her properly. She’s still avoiding my eyes. She looks exhausted, broken. Afraid. For the first time in years, I have absolutely no idea what to say to her.

“Jace.” Ethan’s voice cuts in again. “We are talking.”

I meet his gaze, then look back at Skye, then to him again, because I know fully well that the conversation is going to change so many things.

And it might as well force me to bring out things I buried deep inside me.

Skye I’m halfway through changing into pajamas when my phone vibrates on the bed. I glance at it, expecting Kimberly. Instead, my stomach drops.Jace. I stare at his name for several seconds before picking up the phone.Jace: Game tomorrow. Be there.I blink. That’s it? No hello. No please. Not even a question. Just an order.I type back before I can stop myself.Me: Why?The reply comes almost immediately.Jace: Because you’re my girlfriend.I roll my eyes. Of course.I toss the phone onto my bed and continue searching through my drawer for something comfortable to wear to bed. I have absolutely no intention of going. I already have enough problems. The last thing I need is to sit in a stadium surrounded by hundreds of students while everyone watches me pretend to cheer for Jace.Besides, I don’t even like football that much. My phone vibrates again.Jace: Don’t make me come looking for you.I stare at the message. What an arrogant jerk.I type: I’m not coming.Three dots appear. D

  • Accidentally in bed with the wrong brother   Chapter 20: I have a fake boyfriend now.

Skye I keep telling myself I’m fine. It’s almost convincing.I stand near the edge of the football field, watching Ethan disappear back toward his teammates. Mia says something to him, and he laughs again. That laugh. I hate how much I love it. I look down at my shoes, forcing myself to breathe. This is ridiculous.I have a fake boyfriend now. I shouldn’t be standing on the sidelines staring at another guy like some lovesick idiot.Especially when that guy is Ethan.“Skye?”I don’t turn around. I already know that voice.Chloe.“Go away.”A second later, she appears beside me with Kimberly.Kimberly takes one look at my face, then follows my gaze toward the field. Her expression immediately softens. “Oh.”I shake my head. “Don’t.”“I wasn’t going to say anything.”“Yes, you were.”“I was going to say that we should go.”“I’m fine.”Kimberly snorts. “You have been staring at Ethan for the last fifteen minutes.”“I haven’t.”“You absolutely have.”Chloe slips her arm through mine. “Com

  • Accidentally in bed with the wrong brother   Chapter 19: You are falling for her.

JaceI shouldn’t be angry. That’s the first thing I tell myself. I shouldn’t care who Skye looks at. I shouldn’t care who she smiles at.And I definitely shouldn’t care that she came all the way to the football field just to watch my brother. But I do. God, I fucking do.I slam the football against the ground harder than necessary. It bounces once. Twice. Then rolls away.“Jace!” Coach’s voice cuts across the field.I ignore him. My eyes are still fixed on Skye. She’s standing near the sideline, staring at Ethan like he’s the only person in the world. That look on her face… I’ve seen it before. For years.Every time Ethan walked into a room, Skye’s eyes followed him. Every time he scored a touchdown, she was the loudest person cheering.Every time he smiled at her, she looked like he’d handed her the entire fucking universe. And I hated it. I always told myself I hated it because she was annoying.Because she followed him around. Because she was always there. Because she was pathetic.

  • Accidentally in bed with the wrong brother   Chapter 18: I don't care. So why does it hurt?

Skye I tell myself I don’t care. That her words don’t hurt. She is definitely looking for a way to get under my skin. Make me hurt. Yet I find myself walking toward the football field. I don’t even realize where I’m going until the familiar sound of whistles reaches my ears. Practice. Of course. The field comes into view, and my steps slow. Players are scattered across the grass, some running drills while others stand near the sidelines, laughing and drinking water. Then I see him. Ethan. My heart immediately does that stupid little thing it always does whenever he’s around. He’s standing near the benches, his helmet tucked beneath one arm. But he’s not alone. A girl is standing in front of him. Red hair. Long, shiny, and tied loosely behind her shoulders. I know her. Mia Davis. She’s a senior. Everyone knows Mia. She’s one of those girls who somehow manages to be beautiful without looking like she’s trying. She’s smart, confident, popular, and apparently has no problem mak

  • Accidentally in bed with the wrong brother   Chapter 17: Don’t let her get to you.

Skye The moment Mrs Anderson leaves the classroom, everywhere erupts. Chairs scrape against the floor. Students gather their books. Logan and Mason are already arguing about something near the back while Chloe stuffs her notebook into her bag. I remain seated. My fingers are still wrapped tightly around the edge of my desk. I can feel Jace beside me. I don’t know what to say. I risk a glance at him, he’s doing something on his phone. Not only did he defend me, now I'm stuck with him for a whole week. Why the hell does fate keep bringing us together? My eyes fall on the bin, a moment ago, the class had laughed because of Tiffany. Reality crashes into me again. Part of me is still stunned that he actually defended me. The other part is angry that I needed him to. “Skye?” I look up. Chloe is standing beside my desk. “You okay?” “Yeah.” The lie comes too easily. Kimberly gives me a suspicious look. “You don’t look okay.” “I just need a minute.” She stud

  • Accidentally in bed with the wrong brother   Chapter 16: I’m stuck with him.

Skye For several seconds, nobody moves. Tiffany stares at Jace as if she can’t quite believe what just happened. Neither can I. Jace simply sits beside me, completely calm, like he didn’t just humiliate the most popular girl in school in front of an entire classroom. I glance at him. He catches me looking. “What?” “Nothing.” “You’re staring.” “I’m trying to understand what just happened.” A faint smirk pulls at his mouth. “I threw something in a trash can.” I roll my eyes. “You know exactly what I mean.” Before he can answer, the classroom door opens. Our English teacher, Mrs. Anderson, walks in carrying a stack of papers. The room immediately settles. “Good morning, everyone.” “Good morning, Mrs. Anderson.” She places her books on the desk and looks around the room. “I hope everyone completed the reading I assigned.” A few students groan. Mrs. Anderson raises an eyebrow. “That sounded suspiciously like a no.” A few people laugh. I force myself to focus.
