Chapter 1

( Abandoned bride)

The morning sun came with it's rays penetrating into the room.

Emily who was already dressed up heard the sound of the door being pulled open and upon looking, she found her lovely mother Lucille stepping inside with a wide smile up her lip.

Her mother was all she had and she was glad she would be celebrating the day with her by her side.

Although at the moment, they were facing a difficult situation.

Her mother was diagnosed with heart disease and at the moment, they seeked for money for her treatment but all that would be cleared after the marriage because right after she gets married, her share of her father's property would be used to treat her disease.

To Emily, today was going to be the most happiest day of her life as she was getting married to the man she had ever loved, Richard.

Richard was her high school crush before they began dating.

"Wow... You look extremely beautiful" her mother complimented seeing her daughter who completely transformed with the aid of the make-up.

Emily returned her compliment with a smile after which she turned to face the mirror which casted a her image.

She couldn't believe the power of make-up.

" I know right?" She gave a hearty chuckle, running her palms down her gown.

" You know... You look exactly like one of those beautiful princess I normally watch on the television back in the day.

You look exactly like... " she Hesitated for a while thinking of the perfect princess identity to give to Emily.

" Ahh... You look like Cinderella"

Her hands stretched to Emily's face where she playfully dragged her cheeks making her blush.

" I do... Don't I?"

Emily took a step towards her mother, her hands going round her to embrace her.

" I wish your dad was here. I'm sure he would have been extremely overjoyed"

The wide smile on her Emily's lips slightly lowered on remembering her father.

Back when he was alive, Emily had pictured her father to be the perfect dutiful and faithful husband to her mother but all that went down the drain when he brought in another woman as his wife.

A woman who had a daughter who was the same age as Emily, a woman who was her mother's sister.

The day when her father brought in Lucy as his wife, for the first time, Emily watched her mother being distraught by the news.

Her mother who was always strong headed, never willing to break down in front of anyone finally did and all because of her father and Lucy.

She didn't know what went wrong between her father and her mother but ever since then, their was peaceful home was no more.

Years after their separation, her mother was diagnosed with heart disease exactly the same illness that her grandfather exhibited right before his death.

They were informed that it was a genetic disease that her mother happened to have.

Regardless of everything, she still loves her dad dearly because even after he separated from her mother, he always showered her with love.

Deep inside her, she wished he lived to see her wed.

To see her walk down the aisles with him by the side, hand in hand.

" I know" she muttered

" Things won't be the same anymore. I know that right after your marriage, for every girl her husband comes first.

I will really miss you" Emily turned to see her mother wiping away the little tear which formed on the brim of her eyes.

She pushed herself to stand, cupping her mother's face in the process feeling her soft cheeks.

"Don't say that mom.

You will always be my major concern. " she assured caressing her cheeks with her thumbs.

Lucille simply responded to her with a nod.

"You know... After the marriage, everything will go back to normal or even more than normal"

" Of course it will. Now let me admire you more"

With their laughter filling the room, Emily twirled, her white gown following the movement but a knock interrupted their mother and daughter moment.

" It's time" Tricia, her friend spoke standing by the open door.

This broke the contact between Emily and her mother.

Exhaling Emily turned to the mirror to take one last look at herself dressed in a beautiful wedding gown which costed her alot.

She had to borrow money from her friends and work mates just to afford the gown.

Within minutes, they all got into the car which arrived in front of the church.

The procession began and she was walked down the aisle by Tricia's father who had been a father figure to Emily ever since her father's demise.

He was the closest thing she had to a father.

The hall was filled both men and women elegantly dressed and each one of them had huge smiles on their faces.

The altar was decorated with white and blue flowers.

With her veil over her head, she kept her gaze down as she walked down the red velvet carpet till she got to the alter.

Now Standing at the alter, she waited for the man who was to be her soon to be husband to step in.

Minutes suddenly felt like hours as her feet began to hurt but still she had hope that he was coming.

Murmurs could be heard all round the hall.

Everyone was beginning to get worried thinking the groom wouldn't come.

For a girl to be left on her wedding day was regarded as a disgrace.

Society would call her to be characterless and that was why she got abandoned on her wedding day.

Emily turned to look at  Tricia's father Evans who had a visible frown on his forehead.

His wife who was seated next to him kept trying to subdue his anger.

Her gaze turned to her mother who was also worried but other than being upset just like everyone else, she flashed a calming smile which for the time being, managed to calm her recking nerves.

About three more hours passed and with this, everyone was sure that the groom wouldn't come.

A heart filled with lots of dreams happiness and hope began to crumble as her feet trembled beneath her.

Deep tears stung in her eyes, one that she wasn't willing to spill.

'He would come'

She assured herself.

Soon, the guest began to disperse.

Each of them would come to console her before making their way out of the church.

"He would still come" Emily said trying so hard to remain strong but Tricia only shook her head to her words.

Evans stepped forward with his suite placed on his arm.

" He isn't coming and you should accept it. It's been three and half hours now and there is no sign of him"

The anger in the voice of her Evans was visible.

Also shaking his head just like the rest of them, he left their presence.

" Emily, I think it's time to go"

Her mother spoke next.

" No! He would still come"

Even after everyone tried to persuade her, she remained right where she was still hoping.

Her hopes finally lengthened to the size of a dimly lit candle flame that would go out anytime soon.

The phone which had been brought to Emily didn't leave her hands as she continued to dial Richard's number again and again.

His phone was switched off.

The little hope in Emily began to fade like the wind.

Extra two hours passed. Then suddenly, the door of the church bursted open with Carlos stepping inside.

Carlos was Richard's closest friend.

They did everything together, went to places together.

Carlos and Richard were like five and six.

Without hesitation, Emily went to him dragging her gown along.

" Where is he?" Her voice cracked, tears still on the brim of her eyes.

"He isn't coming"

The words Peirced deep inside her chest.

Her heart stopped for a while, the excruciating pain gripping over it.

Yet, the questions that ran through her mind was why?

She took a deep breath and swallowed down before being able to let herself speak.

" He doesn't want to get married to me?" Emily asked with her gaze fixated on Carlos with a little form of hope while deep down she was breaking into tiny pieces on the inside.

The silence that met her question answered it all.

Her voice hung in her throat, this time all hope she had died with tears brewing down her cheeks messing her make-up.

Before her mother or anyone could get to her, she left their presence running as far as her legs could take her.

She held her head trying to push the tears away.

Mentally, she was destroyed and she could feel her heart aching.

The last time she had cried this bitterly was when her father passed away, ever since then, she liked to think that her tears had ran out.

The day supposed to be her most happiest day quickly transformed into her worst night mere in a blink of an eye.

In the cold autumn night after the rain shower, Emily walked down the lonely street in her wedding gown.

The biting wind whipped her flesh as she wrapped her arms around her body for warmth.

Constantly, tears flowed down her cheeks with her hair flowing in the breeze.

Time passed with the once bright sky turning dark as she spent her time in a bar drinking her youthful life away.

She wanted to drink to forget today ever happened.

Her head was filled with thoughts running over the other but still all of them coming to one conclusion, suicide.

He never loved her, he never truely did despite the times they spent together.

"Ma'am, you have already heard enough" said the bartender behind the counter who curiously watched the girl taking up the eighth glass of whiskey.

"Are you chasing me out too? You don't want me in your life?"

At this she continued with her tears.

" No one wants me"  Sitting down there, she thought of ways to end it all.

Was jumping into the bridge good enough? Or running a knife through her wrist good enough?

Her brooding thoughts trailed on, and she didn't seem bothered with the  way people stared at her.

Not that she didn't know but she just didn't care.
