Chapter 3

SAM'S POV

How I was able to get home without breaking down at some point is still a miracle cause immediately I stepped into my apartment it was as though I was slapped hard on the face, all the tears I had held in came pouring down.

I tossed my suitcase to one side and slid down to the floor.

I hadn't cried earlier, I didn't shed even a single tear but now I wanted to scream out every hurt with rage, if only that will make me feel better.

How many nights had Chase held me, kissed me, whispered love to me only to turn around and give it to someone else,

All the cancelled dates,

All the signs I didn't think much about,

the times I just happened to find them together and always thought it to be coincidence.

The times I spoke about chase with sierra and she always told me not to think much about it.

It wasn't just the cheating, but the betrayal by the two people I trusted the most

My boyfriend,

My best friend

A shaky laugh escaped my throat “stupid” I whispered

I pushed myself up and stumbled into my bedroom memories flooded my mind, the girls night,

the night chase and I spent together,

the night when we made love on this bed.

I pulled my eyes from the bed and went into the bathroom.

I looked into the mirror, my reflection staring back at me, mm, my eyes red, my cheeks blotchy, my lips trembling, hair a mess and my makeup smeared.

I splashed water in my face, freshened up and changed into an oversize hoodie, probably one I stole from chase but I'm too tired to even think about that.

I curled up on the bed, pulling my knees to my chest, I felt so alone I thought of calling Mira but I didn't want to disturb her night, she might be having the time of her life right now

My phone lay on the bedside table I picked it up, I hadn't gone through it since, a message from Benny my summer worker asking if I was back and would I be around at the shop tomorrow, I replied her but somehow I opened Chase's contact, the last message he sent to me professing his fake love

Immediately I blocked his contact, deleted it from my phone, blocked him on every social media account we shared, and deleted all posts with him.

My chest tightened as I did same for sierra officially saying goodbye to what we shared,

I even went through my gallery deleting every single picture I had with them, some of them reminding me of the lovely memories. I started crying again. It really hurt to be betrayed this way

I tossed the phone aside and stared at the ceiling. I wanted to clear out every single item that belonged to them but I was too tired right now for that I will probably do it tomorrow. Slowly I drifted into sleep from exhaustion and the day's activities.

The next morning I was woken up by the buzzing of my phone, a missed call from Mira, light spilled into the room through the curtains. I checked the time and it was some minutes past 9. How did I sleep that long?

I got up, used the bathroom, washed my face, then I dialed Mira back.

“Hey girl friend, what's up? Her voice slipped through the speakers

“I'm fine” I replied weakly

“You sure must have had a rather rough night with chase you seem like you're just waking up”

I was quite but she kept rambling on anyway

“I had an eventful night but it was much fun because I was alone and I really wanted you to come along but you wanted to just came back from you trip and you wanted to have a lovely night with your book and me the loveless best friend now had to go to her concert alone because my other best friend decided to want to spend the night with her secret boyfriend whom she has refused to tell me about”

“Wait what?” I blurted out

“Ehhh, what? I mean nothing” he startled

“How was your night” she said trying to change the topic

“Mira?” I called her

“Oh god Sam it's not my place to tell, it slipped by mistake”

“Sierra has a boyfriend that you knew about and you guys didn't tell me right?” I asked her

“I didn't know I swear I just happened to find out a while ago, I overheard her speaking on the phone with him and she pleaded that I shouldn't tell you that she was going to do it herself”

“Wow” was the only thing I could say

“You're not mad right?” She asked me

“No I'm not, I'm just…” I sighed

“chase and I broke up, I broke up with him”

“Oh my god darling, what happened?, are you okay?”

She asked me very concerned

“I'm fine, I will be fine, it's not a big deal”

“It is a big deal, you love this man”

“I loved him, now he is just nothing but a memory, he's such a scumbag, I just feel so stupid”

“No darling, you're not foolish, do you want to talk about it?”

“It is something I have to talk about “

“Okay then should I come over?”

“Yes please I could really use a hug right now”

“I'm on my way, does sierra know?, should I call her?”

“Yes,no, don't talk or call sierra you just come”

“Why not? Don't tell me you're mad at her about that stuff, please don't be you weren't even supposed to hear it from me”

“No it's not that, I will tell you everything when you get here”

“hmmmm, okay see you in a bit”
