In the past, whenever Nina and Henry had an argument, Nina would go crying to Mom, playing the victim, and Henry would be forced to back down and apologize.

Therefore, she was certain that Henry would also give in this time if she threatened him with Mom.

Henry couldn't contain his anger. "Nina Ferrell, are you out of your mind? Go complain to Mom, I dare you. Let's see if she'll still side with you this time!"

After saying that, he angrily hung up the phone.

My brother's attitude made Nina's sidekicks hesitate. Henry was, after all, the Gaston family's official heir. Even if Nina was "Miss Gaston", they didn't want to offend the young master of the Gaston family.

Nina's eyes turned red with anger. Seeing her sidekicks cowering, she gritted her teeth and stomped her foot hard.

But in the end, she didn't cause any more trouble. She just glared at me hatefully and turned to leave.

"Your name is Nina Ferrell? Aren't you 'Miss Gaston'? How come your family name's not Gaston?"

A flicker of panic crossed Nina's face, but she quickly composed herself.

She lifted her chin and said arrogantly, "I took my mother's family name! You wouldn't understand! My parents love each other, so they decided one child would take the father's family name and one the mother's."

Hearing that, I almost burst out laughing.

My parents indeed love each other, but I've never heard of such an arrangement.

After all, my dad's family name is Gaston, and my mom's family name is also Gaston.

Taking my dad's family name or my mom's family name would make no difference.

Nina could only tell a lie like that because my mom doesn't like making public appearances, so not many people know her name.

I suppressed my smile and deliberately put on a puzzled expression. "Really? But I remember Mrs. Gaston's original family name wasn't Ferrell. Maybe I misremembered."

When Nina heard that I seemed to know Mrs. Gaston's real maiden name, her face showed a momentary panic.

Then, she seemed to think that there was no way a gold digger like me could possibly have that kind of high society knowledge, so she regained her bravado and shot back.

"I'm a member of the Gaston family. How can I not know my mom's maiden name? You're just an outsider. Who are you to question me?

"Listen here, wench, unless I agree, you'll never step foot in the Gaston mansion!"

She seemed worried I would go complain to Henry again, so after uttering that threat, she quickly left with her group.

I didn't intend to stop her anyway.

To put it plainly, Nina was just a student from a disadvantaged background that my parents sponsored.

When I got home, I'd tell Mom what happened and let her know Nina's true colors.

Once the Gaston family withdrew its sponsorship, Nina would have nothing to do with our family anymore.

When I got home after class, Mom was still working overtime at the company. I learned from Claire, the maid, that Mom had been unusually busy with work lately.

Dad, on the other hand, had come home early. Seeing me, he waved me into his study.

"Jenny, Henry already told me. You're back for good this time, right?

"That's great! While you're attending college, you can slowly learn the ropes and gradually take over our family business! Once you can handle things on your own, I can finally retire.

"Sit down, my dear girl. Take a look at these reports first. I'll go get you some fruit."

Seeing Dad so eager to dump all his work on me, I sighed helplessly.

I had no choice but to sit down and flip through the mountain of documents on his desk.

When Dad came back with the fruit and saw me engrossed in the reports, he beamed even wider.
