Chapter 40: If all I could have is YOU

I could see the patches of black under Max’s eyes, clear evidence of the sleepless night and the day. The entire day, he stood like a diligent bodyguard, outside my chambers, and however badly I wanted to call him in and cuddle with me, I had decided against it due to the presence of Azrael.

Stretching his hands in the air, Max attempts to loosen the knots on his shoulder, when I thread my arms over them to massage the stiff areas. He moans under my touch, as his body relaxes from all the hard work he has put in through the night and the day, and I enjoy the heat of his skin under my touch.

“Adria, you dont have to do this”, he says holding my hand as they began to massage him, and I swat them away with a sharp look in my eyes.

“I can see you are tired, let me do this”, I say.

“But…”, he begins, his expression laced with the self-loathing and the self-criticism they were about to throw my way when I halt him, totally against hearing any word.
