ADRIEN’S POV

There was a reason people thought I was good at focusing under pressure.

Unfortunately, none of those skills seemed to work around June.

She hadn’t sat at our table since that first walk. She was always brightly beaming with Jules and another girl I didn’t recognize.

“You’re staring again.” I heard Theo say. He didn’t even look up from the notebook in his hand.

“I’m not staring.” I cleared my throat.

“You absolutely are.” Max chimed in.

“Have you tried any of our suggestions?” Max added as he stole a potato from my plate.

“No.” I replied.

“Why?” Theo looked up.

“Because they’re stupid.” I said.

“Which one?” Max replied.

“By the way, that hurt our feelings.” Theo said, clutching his heart.

“All of them?” I turned my attention to Max.

“The playlist wasn’t stupid.” Theo defended, since it was his brilliant idea.

“The playlist was twenty seven songs.” I deadpanned. Deep down, I actually loved the idea and was already planning on it.

I just didn’t know what type of music June liked.

“Women love effort!” Max said.

“You don’t want to buy flowers, chocolate or art.” Max said.

“Well what are you doing then?” Theo asked.

When they saw I wasn’t answering, Max decided to speak again.

“She’s not going to be waiting for you. The moment this ends, a lot of other guys will take their chances.” He said.

“He’s not lying. She’s attractive and put herself in the spotlight by being with you.” Theo added.

The thought of other guys shooting their shot evoked an emotion I hadn’t felt in a while.

“Just don’t waste the little time you have.” He finally said before leaving.

“Take your shots g.” Theo patted my shoulder before walking towards some girls.

I didn’t want to scare her away. The little progress we were making was enough for me.

I wouldn’t want that to crash by making one gesture that would turn out to be a regret.

But I guess I could do something…

The bell rang and I quickly moved to my next class.

I got a message from my dad about my application form. I had not even started filling it out because I’ve never thought about a plan B for football.

At some point between thinking of my application forms and June, I accidentally drifted to sleep.

“School is over Hayes.” The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was June staring at me.

“Am I dreaming?” I mumbled.

“Let’s check?” She said and pinched my arm.

“Ouch, that was really painful.” I winced.

“Great, now you’re awake.” She chuckled.

“Max and Theo couldn’t find you so I decided to find my favorite student.” She winked.

Holy shit, was I actually dreaming?

“Anyways, they said you wanted to show me something?” She returned to her normal neutral expression.

Show her something?

“Ohhh yeah.” I pretended to know what she was talking about.

As we walked, I checked my phone to see unread messages from the group chat.

THEO : we’ve given you an assist, make sure you score.

MAX : You've got this man!

“You’re gonna have to go with me to see it, no work today right?” I turned to her.

I noticed she walked a bit slower today.

“Yeah, no problem. I’ll text my mum to let her know.” She told me.

Thankfully, Mr Arnold, my driver, was still around and patiently waiting.

“Sorry Mr Arnold, I fell asleep.” I told him as I entered the car after opening the door for June.

I witnessed her give a quiet look at everything in the car.

It wasn’t the usual Porsche.

Instead, it was a dark grey Audi.

“What did you want to show me?” She asked.

“You’ll see.” I told her. She gave me a perplexed look but didn’t ask more questions.

“Are we still on for tomorrow?” I asked her with a grin.

“Is there any reason why we wouldn’t be?” She turned her face.

“You’re really beautiful.” I said.

“Hmm, so are you.” She said lazily and rested her head on my shoulder.

“How come no guy has ever made a move on you?” My curiosity got the better of me. I’d never thought about this till Max and Theo brought it up.

“Who says they haven’t?” She responded.

“For example, James.” She mentioned with a sour expression on her face.

“How did you and him even start dating?” I asked.

“Hmm,” she said and mumbled some things I couldn’t hear.

I glanced down at her and realized she was already sleeping on my chest.

For once, she looked completely at peace.

I looked up and noticed we were almost at the surprise destination. The backseat was loaded with books and snacks.

I sighed.

“Can we go back to the house?” I asked Mr Arnold and muttered an apology.

Once we got to the house, I carefully carried her inside.

I was contemplating placing her in one of the guest rooms but I wouldn’t be able to check on her properly.

So I carried her upstairs and laid her carefully on my bed.

She didn’t stir.

I slipped off her shoes and pulled the blanket over her.

Only then did I notice her skirt had moved when I laid her, exposing more skin than she’d be comfortable with.

My fingers slightly touched her thigh and I felt my own body electrify.

My brain immediately chose the worst moment to stop functioning.

“Get a grip Hayes.” I muttered to myself.

I looked away just as quickly and adjusted the sheets.

She sighed softly in her sleep and turned onto her side.

I practically fled the room.

A few minutes later, I was downstairs in the kitchen drinking a glass of cold water and questioning every decision that led to June sleeping in my bedroom.

I stayed in the empty living room for a while before moving to the kitchen to cook something for her.

She’d probably be hungry once she woke up. I thought.

I didn’t do anything extravagant. I just made French toast, some eggs and freshly squeezed orange juice.

I was carrying a tray up when Mrs May stopped me. She’d been working with us for years and definitely felt like my second mother.

“You’re carrying food up to your room? You made those?” She smirked.

“Yes,” I replied.

“Hope she likes it.” She said and walked away. The smile on her face suggested she wasn’t talking about the French toast.

I placed the tray by the window and walked into the bathroom to shower.

When I stepped out, June was already waking up and rubbing her eyes.

She looked at me, looked around and quickly had a horrified expression on her face.

Then I remembered absolutely nothing after Adrien’s car.I looked up to see a half naked Adrien right in front of me. I gently pinched myself to know if I was dreaming or not.“You’re awake.” He simply said and walked over to the window with a tray of food in his hands. Just then, my stomach made a small noise and Adrien laughed. “Eat,” he said before walking towards his closet. “Why am I here?” I asked.“I kidnapped you.” He said with a small laugh before turning away. The way he was standing made the muscles on his back tense, and I found myself wondering how a teenager could be this ripped. Suddenly, as if he had sensed my gaze, he turned, and his eyes snapped up to look at me.Surprise flitted through his gaze, but it quickly transformed into an arrogant smirk then followed by a wink.I quickly focused on the food in front of me and ate in silence.“You’ve been sleeping for a long

JUNE’S POVThe name “James” sent my mind running. I kept my head down and focused on one of the books beside me instead of contemplating running out the door. I heard footsteps from the stairs but I could not make out a face because of the shelves.“James, this is June.” I heard Mr Lewis say and immediately raised my head.Instead of dirty blonde hair and green eyes, I saw ginger hair and soft brown eyes.I felt the relief in my bones.“Hello.” The boy waved at me. He didn’t look much older than me, maybe a year or two. They began talking in low voices and I took that time to walk a bit and check the books around me.There were a lot of bestselling novels like A Little Life, Book Lovers, Lord of The Rings and a lot others I recognized. They weren’t too expensive either.“June?” I heard my name and moved towards the pair.“Congratulations. Welcome to the store, James will give you a tour since I have some things to finish up.” Mr Lewis explained and went into his office, leaving me a
